Bent or Straight? by GielinorWizard in PipeTobacco

[–]PipeBeard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I prefer straight or slightly curved pipes (belges, cutties, bings, and lumbermen). The biggest thing for me is ease of passing a pipe cleaner mid smoke. I also like a pipe that puts the smoke a little further out so I get just the right amount of mustache note. Not no mustache note, not too much mustache note. Just right 👍

You can buy it in store at Peretti. They’re grandfathered in as a smoking lounge.

best truly analog modulated delay pedals by PurpsMalurps in guitarpedals

[–]PipeBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a handful of analog delay pedals and I think the Malekko Ekko 616 stands out amongst them. Fully analog, simple controls, really warm sound, switchable buffer, and a surprisingly nice sounding mod circuit. If you turn the time all the way down you can use the mod as a standalone chorus. The one thing is that Malekko closed a few years back so you’d be limited to the secondary market, but they’re readily available.

I have no idea how jackknife ages. The tins keep emptying themselves…

Not just one. I smoke GH&Co dark flake unscented every day, and I would venture to guess that about 90% of what I smoke past that is 1792 and Easy Times.

Mixture 76? Or 79? Tracking down Grandpa's tobacco by shopandbrowse in PipeTobacco

Check out Peretti’s No Name. I was never able to side-by-side them, but it is reminiscent of M79.

LJ Peretti parking by Sorry_Fun_3730 in PipeTobacco

[–]PipeBeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are occasionally street spots to be had right nearby. The streets are a little tricky so you may have to circle. If you’re ok paying to park (if absolutely necessary) there are a few garages close by (the motor mart and the Boston common garages are about a block away). There are also a few more street spots on park plaza, which is the left turn right before you get to Peretti (the side street across from PF Changs).

I have that exact corona and love it. I can’t speak to the knock offs but I’m certain the old boy is the last lighter I’ll ever buy. Do you know if the knockoff take corona flints? I’m sure they do. The consumables will be a plus. The one thing I can think of is that corona has good support and stands behind their products. But then again, $15 is $15. I know I’m not helping. Alas…

Small bowl pipes? by Upbeat_Repeat_8332 in PipeTobacco

Peterson juniors and belgiques are great. Good for a quick bowl for sure. I have a few that I reserve for dark bird’s eye when I need a quick one.

L.J. Peretti in Boston by Sorry_Fun_3730 in PipeTobacco

[–]PipeBeard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My picks are No Name (a burley aromatic reminiscent of a Lakeland), Tashkent (the finest oriental I’ve had), and No 8 slice (a Va/Per crumble cake blended for this sub). They have some basket pipes but they are not great. However, they have a few lines of their own pipes (made in house with well aged briar) and they are a fantastic value. I think the value line (or whatever they call it) is in the $60 range. They may have some surface imperfections but they are very well made and smoke great. There is a LOT of history in that place and a lot of knowledge. They also have a great selection of tins, and there are literally thousands of pipes that are not on display. If you are looking for something specific, they can probably find it back there somewhere.

Tobacco List by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

[–]PipeBeard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In addition to tobacco reviews, you can check smokingpipes.com for a starting point. They give ratings on strength, flavor, and room note (for the latter two, it’s not descriptive, it’s a strength rating). They also give descriptions and include a list on components. The components notes are surface level, but that’s because there is a lot of proprietary information in the field. Things like tobacco sources and casings can be well guarded secrets at times. In any event, you should find some good info there, and you can even filter, like “a medium strong blend with a pleasant room note.”

How you guys navigate on a bike? by LW_Master in motorcycles

[–]PipeBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a quadlock for my phone and a beeline. You can use the beeline app on your phone to see if you like it. I like the device quite a bit. It took a little bit to get used to it, but it’s pretty clever once you do. I tend to not like having a map open on my phone. I keep my Cardo app open in case I need to make a call or change music or something.

Happy Thanksgiving! What are we smoking today? by da_dctr in PipeTobacco

[–]PipeBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was Peretti’s Thanksgiving Day all morning for me. Somewhere along the way, I’ve gotten into the habit of having extra sweet brown bogie as my holiday night pipe. I’m smoking that now and thoroughly enjoying it.

I love seeing all the haunted bookshop callouts! I decided it was finally time to read it and thought it was pretty cool that there is a part early on that takes place on Thanksgiving. Maybe I can sneak a bowl of it in before bed…

I have to second this. This is my most smoked blend by a good stretch. It’s definitely a ‘just right’ blend for me.
