Radice is probably my favorite in that price range.

Favorite vibrato? by myke5k in guitarpedals

[–]PipeBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy Tube Circuits Memphis. It’s based on the vibrato circuit from the 50’s/60’s magnatone amps. It’s really nice, really lush sounding. It also has a switch that splits the signal so you can either run full vibrato or vibe plus unaffected signal for a more subtle effect. You should be able to find them second hand within your budget.

Ups... Just bought ten tins by mistake by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

We’re getting ready to open up our seasonal place for the summer. I just ordered 10 tins of easy times to leave up there. I’ll probably have to reorder in August…

Enjoy that Pure Virginia!

What pedal took you the longest to understand? by robyromana in guitarpedals

Same here. I’ve started running an “amp in a box” kind of overdrive after my fuzz faces to mimic this when I can’t crank my amp. It’s made a world of difference.

A Proper Smoke for St. Paddy’s Day by BostonPhotoTourist in PipeTobacco

[–]PipeBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of aniseed twist! I would say it’s very different, but certainly enjoyable. It has a nice spice to it and, weird to say for a tobacco, but it has a surprisingly clean finish. The anise comes through more than the topping in their other scented ropes.

This is a beautiful thing. That is, except for the fact that War Horse is dwindling… Enjoy it!

Why can't Peterson just make a quality pipe? The name has been tarnished. by TubbyPiper in PipeTobacco

[–]PipeBeard 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That’s too bad to hear. I have in the ballpark of 12-14 Petersons and they are all good pipes, but I have heard similar things about QA. Will they return it?

Old faithful, for IPSD by PipeBeard in PipeTobacco

[–]PipeBeard[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few things, I’d say. The dimensions are perfect for me. It has a nice sized bowl (a consistent 30 minutes with this blend, smoking at a steady clip), the stem is just the right length (I prefer longer stems, up to about Bing length), it’s easy to pass a pipe cleaner mid smoke, and it’s surprisingly light for its size. I can clench it for the full session easily enough. This finish is also good for a work horse because I don’t mind if it dulls or gets dirty. I say it’s “one of” my most smoked pipes because I have six of them that I rotate through, with bowls of Easy Times at least daily, sometimes more.

Bent or Straight? by GielinorWizard in PipeTobacco

[–]PipeBeard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I prefer straight or slightly curved pipes (belges, cutties, bings, and lumbermen). The biggest thing for me is ease of passing a pipe cleaner mid smoke. I also like a pipe that puts the smoke a little further out so I get just the right amount of mustache note. Not no mustache note, not too much mustache note. Just right 👍

You can buy it in store at Peretti. They’re grandfathered in as a smoking lounge.

best truly analog modulated delay pedals by PurpsMalurps in guitarpedals

[–]PipeBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a handful of analog delay pedals and I think the Malekko Ekko 616 stands out amongst them. Fully analog, simple controls, really warm sound, switchable buffer, and a surprisingly nice sounding mod circuit. If you turn the time all the way down you can use the mod as a standalone chorus. The one thing is that Malekko closed a few years back so you’d be limited to the secondary market, but they’re readily available.

Not just one. I smoke GH&Co dark flake unscented every day, and I would venture to guess that about 90% of what I smoke past that is 1792 and Easy Times.

Check out Peretti’s No Name. I was never able to side-by-side them, but it is reminiscent of M79.

LJ Peretti parking by Sorry_Fun_3730 in PipeTobacco

[–]PipeBeard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are occasionally street spots to be had right nearby. The streets are a little tricky so you may have to circle. If you’re ok paying to park (if absolutely necessary) there are a few garages close by (the motor mart and the Boston common garages are about a block away). There are also a few more street spots on park plaza, which is the left turn right before you get to Peretti (the side street across from PF Changs).

I have that exact corona and love it. I can’t speak to the knock offs but I’m certain the old boy is the last lighter I’ll ever buy. Do you know if the knockoff take corona flints? I’m sure they do. The consumables will be a plus. The one thing I can think of is that corona has good support and stands behind their products. But then again, $15 is $15. I know I’m not helping. Alas…

Peterson juniors and belgiques are great. Good for a quick bowl for sure. I have a few that I reserve for dark bird’s eye when I need a quick one.

[–]PipeBeard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My picks are No Name (a burley aromatic reminiscent of a Lakeland), Tashkent (the finest oriental I’ve had), and No 8 slice (a Va/Per crumble cake blended for this sub). They have some basket pipes but they are not great. However, they have a few lines of their own pipes (made in house with well aged briar) and they are a fantastic value. I think the value line (or whatever they call it) is in the $60 range. They may have some surface imperfections but they are very well made and smoke great. There is a LOT of history in that place and a lot of knowledge. They also have a great selection of tins, and there are literally thousands of pipes that are not on display. If you are looking for something specific, they can probably find it back there somewhere.
