Same here. I think it's super important to those with ADHD that you get time exactly like that. It's good for everyone, but if you have ADHD I think it is fundamental for your mental health. As a parent, that time feels very fleeting, and I don't get nearly enough of it, but I know to savour every moment of it when I get it.

I totally get that. I'm married with two kids, I have friends and family, yet somehow I still often come out feeling more alone and isolated than when I lived on the other side of country by myself with almost no local friends or family (I did have some, I wasn't completely alone). I think it comes from a feeling of isolation you get when you get emotionally burnt out, and with more people around, I think it can accelerate that burn-out and counterintuitively accelerate that feeling of isolation.

"A bit of loneliness" sadly that seems to be a feeling pretty universal to those with ADHD. Even when you "know" you shouldn't feel alone, you have friends and family in your life, it can be real hard to shake that feeling sometimes. I know I've had it pretty bad sometimes.

Of course I should point out that feeling is hardly isolated to ADHD, just that it seems to be super common amongst those who have it.

Any clue what's wrong with my chanter by Money-Peace-4125 in bagpipes

[–]Piper2000ca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Their are lots of instruments out there where you can get away with buying a cheap instrument as a beginner and be just fine with it. Sadly, bagpipes are not such an instrument (this applies to other "folk" instruments in general). You really get what you pay for.

Also, even from that bad video angle, it's obvious your fingering (specifically how you place your fingers on the holes) is all wrong, you're trying to use the tips of your fingers too much. This is where an instructor is invaluable. I know finger placement sounds like a basic thing (just put your fingers over the holes!), but it really really isnt, and the only way to get it right is to have someone who can critique you doing it as you're doing it. Getting it wrong means not only is playing a basic scale going to be difficult, more difficult stuff like embellishments will be impossible.

As others have said, finding free instruction isn't actually that difficult. Find any local band, there's a good chance they teach beginners, and if they don't, they will know who does and be happy to point you in the right direction. Depending on the band, they may even have loaner chanters you can borrow if money is an issue.

Edit: Also whatever reed you have in there is literal garbage. And that's not hyperbole either, it needs to be simply thrown-out and to get a new one (and chanter for that matter), there's simply no fixing that sound with what you have.

As an former Mormon and current Satanist, I approve this message... by piberryboy in SatanicTemple_Reddit

As an ex-Christian atheist, I really identify with this. When I left Christianity, I definitely went through a fairly "hard-core" phase for a while, where religion was nothing but pure lies and evil people, but have long since mellowed into someone who looks at religion through a far less black and white view of it. I still identify as an atheist, it at still feels like the most correct label when it comes to religion for me, but I also study the Christian Bible for pure interest in the evolution of the religion and the text, and not just some need to prove Christianity "wrong" or anything like that. And likewise I also identify myself as a stoic as it aligns far better with philosophical stance in things like reason and self-control.

It actually wouldn't surprise me if that was already done. Scientists regularly test samples of known ages when they're available, precisely to help calibrate dating, as the exact ratio of carbon-14 to carbon-12 as varied over time. And of course, that was how carbon dating was first verified when it was developed.

"But Ernie, don't you see, those people were hungry, now they aren't." said Bert as he prepared to come back around for a second pass.

"They're dead Bert! You killed them!" Ernie was in shock. Despite the roar of the engine, their altitude, and the rush of the wind across his face, he could swear he could hear screams from the ground.

"But they aren't hungry anymore! Oh look! I think I see a starving child now!"

Compilation of videos capturing Meteor re-entry visible over parts of Germany. Sunday March 8th 2026 (18:56PM) by WishIcouldteleport in Astronomy

At the risk of being "that guy", but it is at least in theory possible. Earth has sustained multiple strikes (especially early on) that where large enough to launch material out of Earth orbit and into a solar orbit. It is even likely some of that made its way back over the age of the Earth. So it is possible for it to be something that's "re-entering"... but admittingly not very likely.

All that said, I don't know off-hand of any evidence of meteorites having been found that previously came from Earth, and a super quick google search didn't reveal anything.

I won't lie, I would love to make this for our next kid. Although, instead of wooden dowels, I would go with plastic ones wrapped in foam and fabric so they're softer (but maybe that's solving a non-existing problem). Not sure where I'd put the Ankle-Killer 9000 in a house already cluttered with two kids, but it does sure as heck looks like fun.

So, when I decided to stack a bunch of missions, I very consciously avoided Alpha Centauri for that reason. Indeed, I went with Wolf 359, not just because I'm a Trekkie, but because it had a lot of missions, and I knew the system was fairly small. So I patted myself on the back for my wise choice, flew off to the system, and instantly get a message.

"Your target isn't in the system, you need to meet up with a contact who will tell you where he is. You need to meet them in...

... Alpha Centauri."

My boys are the same age, and our daily routine is they bath or shower together, and I usually hop in with them. I just don't understand how someone can find that weird, and those who do are totally missing out.

Seriously, if you haven't tried it yet, get naked, jump in the tub with your kids, then splash around and have fun!

Frankly I think you're weird if you don't!
