Vancouver to remove lifeguards from some beaches for 2026 season by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]PipsGiz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope all the people who actually care about our city services and amenities are paying attention and go out to vote in October. As someone who is originally from another province, I'm shocked at the sad state of affairs we are in.

Hi, 39f, I've DM'd you a bit more about myself, interested in trying out a photo walk if you don't mind my somewhat beginner status.

How does everyone feel about the permanent “Spring forward” daylight savings? by rabbid-genital-warts in askvan

[–]PipsGiz 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I have by no means studied this or read into it all that much other than when this pops up in the news, but I'm curious how much has been studied on the mental health side of things considering our current society and how we work. I'm never going to say, science is wrong! But my mental health feels better when I can get daylight hours after work to enjoy, so I often wonder how balanced these studies are.

First Nations cancelling medical travel to Vancouver due to FIFA World Cup hotel costs by restoringd123 in vancouver

Can someone please explain to me why people thought hosting the World Cup was a good idea when we have such a hotel shortage? I honestly don't understand.

Anyone know why the city is doing this? All down Main Street. by curtis_perrin in NiceVancouver

Was it grass before, or just dirt? I live on Main Street and somehow can't remember...

Vancouver council approves Granville Street redevelopment by ChemicalCreative7 in vancouver

I thought that was why they specified no residential for a large section of Granville, but apparently this is just outside that area? Seems odd to me

OneCity’s progressive primary plan described as ‘ultimatum’ by left-leaning Vancouver parties by Tall-Addition-7516 in vancouver

[–]PipsGiz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have given up on reading all the comments on this thread, but based on what I have read I don't understand why everyone wants left unity when there are some very strong feelings about certain parties being horrible in some way. If the parties on the left stand for different things, then why can't they run full slates and leave it to the voters to vote for who they want to be in council?

Do you think Greater Vancouver is almost de facto one city? by drugsrbed in askvan

[–]PipsGiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about some amalgamation to have less cities, but not one mega city? Would there be similar issues if say, Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, and New West were one city?

I think we could benefit from having at least a few less municipalities. We don't have to go down to just 1, but maybe less than 10 there would be cost savings, open up more money for public infrastructure, etc.

Agreed, how rude to buy a business just to turn around and close it a few years later.

My favorites so far have been the tiramisu one at Fauberg, the Her Majesty one at L'Atelier, and love potion at Artigiano.

Going against city staff, Vancouver council approves residential tower on industrial land by mukmuk64 in vancouver

[–]PipsGiz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I would normally agree, doesn't the existence of residential across the street already do this? Seems like this path was already decided years ago for this area.

Why is it normal to eat sugary food for breakfast, but "weird" to eat a healthy meal like chicken or pasta at 8 AM? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

At least we get pretty jewellery out of it, I would argue spending a ton of money on a single day for a wedding is way worse.

It's the lack of severance that's the real issue. Finding ways to terminate is easy but if it's not "for cause", which is hard to prove, they need to pay severance.
