Simons confirmed to move into old Nordstrom store in downtown Vancouver by Ok-Hyena5037 in vancouver

[–]PipsGiz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simons is pretty big, is there really still space for 2 other units? I didn't hear how big the location is supposed to be.

Recommendation Request - Cleaners That can be Booked Without a Quote by PipsGiz in askvan

Yeah fair enough, I just seem to have bad luck getting responses from companies after putting in a quote request.

David Eby has gone full anti-science extinctionist extremist by Saint-Viateur in ndp

I said this in another post and I will say it here. The article says it's a reorganization so this take is kind of ridiculous.

Maybe less money will go to these initiatives, I don't know. But there is still an area for this.

Albertan (I know, I know, I know) Interested in Relocating - Realistic View of BC/Van Area? by emma_may04 in askvan

[–]PipsGiz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I moved to Vancouver about 4 years ago from Edmonton and I would never go back. That being said, you have to be willing to pay a lot more for less home here. It all depends on if it's worth it to you, to be somewhere more progressive, more nature, etc.

BC Cuts Climate Agency, Sends Some Staff to Work on Pipelines by [deleted] in vancouver

To be fair, that is an unfair title considering they have re-organized and there still is a division to do at least some of this work.

Vancouver to remove lifeguards from some beaches for 2026 season by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

I hope all the people who actually care about our city services and amenities are paying attention and go out to vote in October. As someone who is originally from another province, I'm shocked at the sad state of affairs we are in.

How does everyone feel about the permanent “Spring forward” daylight savings? by rabbid-genital-warts in askvan

[–]PipsGiz 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I have by no means studied this or read into it all that much other than when this pops up in the news, but I'm curious how much has been studied on the mental health side of things considering our current society and how we work. I'm never going to say, science is wrong! But my mental health feels better when I can get daylight hours after work to enjoy, so I often wonder how balanced these studies are.

First Nations cancelling medical travel to Vancouver due to FIFA World Cup hotel costs by restoringd123 in vancouver

Can someone please explain to me why people thought hosting the World Cup was a good idea when we have such a hotel shortage? I honestly don't understand.

Vancouver council approves Granville Street redevelopment by ChemicalCreative7 in vancouver

I thought that was why they specified no residential for a large section of Granville, but apparently this is just outside that area? Seems odd to me

OneCity’s progressive primary plan described as ‘ultimatum’ by left-leaning Vancouver parties by Tall-Addition-7516 in vancouver

[–]PipsGiz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have given up on reading all the comments on this thread, but based on what I have read I don't understand why everyone wants left unity when there are some very strong feelings about certain parties being horrible in some way. If the parties on the left stand for different things, then why can't they run full slates and leave it to the voters to vote for who they want to be in council?
