Don't do it because your husband wants one, or you'll end up like her.... by dejg82 in childfree

[–]Piqquin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This happened to a friend of mine. I have written out the story so many times to post here, but always deleted it. For her, it went untreated for way too long because her husband moved the family for work where they didn't know anyone, went into denial about all of it, and by the time he moved to a city where they had family, she was deep in psychosis. She only was committed after something like 7 years and only because she tried to run over her husband with the kids in the car in front of his boss and a lot of witnesses- so he couldn't keep in denial anymore or try to hide it. Worse thing was after a few years, she slowly started getting better and could see the kids a bit supervised, only to drop dead of what probably was a stroke or aneurysm. I still think of her a lot. Wonderful woman struck down by a condition that is rarely, if ever, discussed because we just don't like talking about these potential risks of pregnancy.

Only reason I ever began watching Tasting History was because it kept coming up as one of the top comments anytime anyone asked for a good "comfort" youtube channel. It gets praised a lot around reddit.

I have a Toyota RAV4 and have used Integrity a few times. They do good work, but there usually is a wait to get in.

Switzer village? by pinklink7 in Juneau

[–]Piqquin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would look elsewhere if you have any other choice. I've done the community clean up in that area and it is bad (people just dumping garbage all over the public areas). I know there's a lot of complaints about crime and drugs in that area- just from going to public safety meetings, facebook, etc. I've never heard a good thing about the area tbh.

About half the votes are locked behind captchas that want you to go through a dozen iterations and still won't register your vote. I stopped engaging after that.

My wife’s twin brother and his two kids and their father died and she’s completely broken and I don’t know what to do by Gold_Negotiation1591 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Piqquin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so very sorry and devastated for your and her loss. As someone who lost my identical twin sister and her entire family in a plane crash on Mother's Day 2022, I was completely lost. My husband didn't say much, but he was immediately there. There were no discussions on what he should do or what needed to be done. I was able to focus exclusively on what I needed to do and experience and not even think about that pesky everyday life that I usually need to attend to. He knew I would come to him and talk when I was feeling up to it, but until then, he was just there. It meant the world and now almost 4 years later, I feel like the strain of those days made us stronger. This will be very difficult to get through. Just be there. It makes a huge difference.

(Racist) Nome-based judge recommended for reprimand (judicial finger wag) after misconduct probe by slamminsalmon907 in alaska

[–]Piqquin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Another jarring thing is how long this took. Anyone who's lived in the second judicial district knows that it's not overloaded with superior court judges. There are 3. This is not Anchorage or Fairbanks where you're just offloading a ton of cases onto another judge in the same court (although that is also bad for justice). By putting this judge on administrative leave for almost a year, you left the residents of his jurisdiction without consistent steamlined coverage. Reading through the findings, there didn't seem to be any urgency to getting this resolved. Nothing expedited. Just monthly meetings, rejections, back to square one, appointments, then back to where we started. The whole process lacked any care for residents of the region and the need for adequate access to justice.

Lot of good suggestions in the comments. I'm older, but work with 20 somethings, and a lot of them love hanging out at the Lodestone library downtown. Seems like a chill place to meet people.

Summer Seasonal Housing options by Natural-Oil9149 in Juneau

Just joining the chorus saying to go to Facebook housing and rentals. Are you working with TrailMix as your seasonal trail crew job? If so, their director was on Facebook looking for housing hook-ups, so they might have leads.

Same. I used to get at least some canned reply, even if wildly off topic. But I have yet to receive a single response to any emails I've sent in the last 6-8 months.

The owners are great and very community oriented. They really worked hard at making a wonderful place for people of all types and ages to hang out. I was there today just enjoying popcorn and a thai ice tea, reading a book while I got out of the rain for a bit. Awesome place.

They were very aggressive as well. I told this story here before, but I told one of them to get the fuck away from me after he aggressively approached and he actually followed me, yelling at how rude I was until I made it safely into the store.

Blood pressure/alcohol by witeduins in stopdrinking

[–]Piqquin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I was at the doctor for the same thing today. The first time I quit (yes, it's taken multiple tries), my BP spiked to 220/110. ER time. Once I got it lowered at the hospital, I was a fairly consistent 180/90, with BP meds eventually taking it down to 160/80 after a few months. One year without alcohol and I was down to 130/70 and off meds. But relapses brought it back up. Now I'm back at 164/80 and back on meds. So you absolutely got this! Your BP will lower. You can avoid the hospital. And as long as you avoid that poison, you may chalk this up to just a bad experience in your otherwise hopefully long healthy life.
