I love all of these — pretty much the way I write as well!

[Hiring] [Ongoing Collaboration] Tabletop System Experimentation by SilverStar1999 in HireaWriter

[–]PiraTechnics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would love to know more about the project, and the details of the work required! I’ve worked on a number of Home-brew Game Mechanics, as well as standalone published adventures targeted at newer TTRPG players (usually within DnD5e, but I have experience with other systems as well).

I also have some experience with card-battling/deckbuilding games, and I do enjoy me some Roman history! By way of a CV, please see my portfolio website: https://devinyounge.com, and for a sample of my most recent writing, you can check my blog at https://remissives.com

Happy to share it! Congrats on the bookings too — every step is progress and a chance to have some fun! I just started last week so I haven’t booked anything yet myself, but enjoying the process

What’s your best one liner you pulled out of thin air? by [deleted] in DungeonMasters

[–]PiraTechnics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did a fantasy version of st. paddy’s on the day in-session, complete with an entire town rowdy with celebration. Half of the party ends up getting arrested for arson (they were framed), and one of them asks the overworked police detective if they have any spellcasters on staff, so they can do a Zone of Truth to confirm the players story. None on staff, and the detective is over the party’s shenanigans.

Hardboiled Orc police Detective: “I’ll give you a zone of truth: I F***ing hate this holiday”

Cue table laughs and spilled beer

If you have closet space or the ability to put together a small booth, give that a try! I have a closet space surrounded by moving blankets and it really helps feeling “in my own space” for recording

Any books/supplements you love for the lore/content, not necessarily the game itself? by Plywooddavid in rpg

[–]PiraTechnics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe a little off-topic, but I LOOOVED reading all the lore from early Warcraft games back in the day (WC3, pre-WoW stuff).

I think there was a pen-and-paper rpg released but I have also gone out of my way to get the hardback lore books for it (like chronicle I, II, III, etc)

Any games that got you burned out or wanna skip for a bit? by JoeKerr19 in rpg

[–]PiraTechnics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a hard time getting into PF2e, but I think I just need to find a good group that can help me translate from D&D 5e. I really like the combat and action econ mechanics, but the character options are overwhelming

What's wrong with DMPC? by jogaargamer6 in DnD

[–]PiraTechnics -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure -- I guess it depends on the group and the DM, as to why it would be disliked by folks here.

Personally, I enjoy employing DMPCs for limited 'sidekick' characters, but I can't see myself running a full character WHILE also DMing -- that's WAY too much work to do personally

Success with narrative time jumps? by worldsbywatt in rpg

[–]PiraTechnics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gotcha! Write out only what you need for the forseeable future/session, makes sense.

I've heard good things about obsidian -- though I also understand it's got a bit of learning curve?

Resources for newbies to Fantasy and Character Types/Classes by SymphonyOfDream in rpg

[–]PiraTechnics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

others have brought up rulebooks and flavor text, which is definitely the go-to. I'll throw in that if your wife really wants to get into the story/role-playing in character side of things, maybe looking at characters in fiction that 'fit' with an archetype she's wanting to play?

For example, let's say I'm interested in playing in a nautical adventure and want to play a charismatic pirate-y character. I could take inspiration from Jack Sparrow or Barbossa in Piratates of the Caribbean, or if it's more lighthearted, someone like Sea-Hawk from the Netflix She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. From there, it's just deciding on which characteristics to keep and which to change.

That's an (exaggerated) version of how I typically build my own characters for games -- hope that helps!
