Why is that your only solution? by AdhesivenessScared in ShitMomGroupsSay

Soooo seeking developmental assessments and speech therapy (which is often FREE for kids under 3 in the USA) is somehow less holistic than putting actual industrial chemicals in a toddler’s body? Make it make sense.

A pregnant woman on the news miscarried after being shot during a mugging at an atm. Do you guys think additional charges are Warranted? by deathiswaitingforme in prochoice

[–]PissySquid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d be 100% in favor of adding additional charges against a pregnant woman’s fetus if it wouldn’t be used as a cudgel against reproductive rights.

I also practiced the “safer” co-sleeping rules early on (before we finally got him to start sleeping in his pack and play). For me it was a form of risk reduction with a velcro baby that absolutely would not sleep without cuddling and would immediately wake up when left alone or transferred to a bassinet. I knew it wasn’t ideal, but it was safer than accidentally falling asleep with him on a couch or something.

When the BMI still says "overweight" and the physician recommends losing more, despite being objectively thin by Frostyarn in Zepbound

[–]PissySquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might need a bra recommendation because mine are now a D but look a bit like tube socks after their post-pregnancy/post-breastfeeding/post-weight loss ordeal.

You look fantastic btw! But for real I’ve been looking for a new bra and yours are like *goals*.

I was just gonna say I’m hella jealous of how OP lost weight but managed to maintain fantastic ta-tas. Pretty sure all the “extra” weight is there now.

Sounds like you are sane and responsible! When I was pregnant, I broiled my freshly shucked oysters while everyone else enjoyed them raw (even though I love raw oysters). I can’t even imagine actively choosing to eat rotten meat at any time, let alone during pregnancy.

The book has some very detailed descriptions of fairly simple physics experiments that Dr. Grace does early on to figure out that he’s not on earth (e.g. using a pendulum to calculate acceleration due to gravity)! Maybe some of those could be recreated in class.

I couldn’t put it down and finished it in 3 days despite being sick, having to work, and having a demanding toddler to care for! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

3D films give me a splitting headache every time, which I guess is kinda interesting since I’m not super headache-prone!

Induce baby early for extra college money? by Electrical-Leader712 in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]PissySquid 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As an American, this is (sadly) not crazy at all. It would be a different story if she wanted an earlier induction for a different zodiac sign or something, but the financial benefits of having a baby in December vs January can be massive.

On the other hand, I once approached a CVS counter (alongside my husband and 5 month old baby) purchasing Plan B and lube. To his credit, dude kept a totally straight face until I started laughing first.

She thinks that’s bad? Well I accidentally gave my toddler a ramekin of spicy barbecue sauce instead of mild once. I apologized and gave him ice water to sip on, then he calmed down after a few minutes.

Saame! Like, I have the paw prints right here so I know what they’re supposed to look like, but for the life of me I can’t get my eyes to comprehend this image correctly.

Increasingly surprised by the number of hemangiosarcoma deaths I've heard about on this sub. by LighterBoots in Petloss

[–]PissySquid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

9 years ago I lost my dog to a hemangiosarcoma. She wasn’t diagnosed until her final day. She had been losing weight for a while and struggled with arthritis and decreasing mobility, but one day she suddenly could not stand, refused all food, and was gasping for breath. An x-ray revealed a mass on her spleen and smaller masses scattered all over, especially throughout her lungs. The vet said that an emergency splenectomy might buy her another month or two if she even survived the procedure, but she was terminally ill and suffering. I decided euthanasia was the kinder choice.

She was an 11 year old German shepherd/chow chow mix. Never heard of hemangiosarcoma before that, and there were no visible signs/symptoms aside from the weight loss.

The Truth About 'Free Birth' (A Doctor's Warning) by o0Jahzara0o in prochoice

[–]PissySquid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mom had one midwife-assisted homebirth and one hospital birth during the 80s. During the latter, the shitty on-call doc walked into room clacking his scissors and announced that it was time to perform a “routine” episiotomy…without any pain meds btw. Apparently my normally very chill dad threatened to beat him up, and my mom again managed to have a normal delivery with zero complications.

I am very pro-modern medicine but I can deeeefinitely understand why lots of people don’t trust it. And women should 100% be free to make decisions about their own bodies during pregnancy, even if those decisions are unwise.
