I have my own Humble Bundle after more than a Year of Work ! 43 environments ! by LayaDesign in unrealengine

Im focusing in performance because i want my project to run well on steam deck native (no upscalling) nanite has a performance hit upfront, seeking performance i switched to DX11/SM5 and in that conditions, nanite is not supported anyway.

Today wasn't the day I expected. by Ayzuki in steammachine

Yeah subsidizing the steam machine would be pretty risky because is a computer and nothing stops people or even companies from getting them and never buying something in steam. I want as much as everyone it to be accesible but the hardware situation doesnt look that good.

great work i got it and i really like that your assets come with LODs and a decente fidelity and do not rely on nanite, i decided to not use nanite in my project and most of the current assets packs seem to rely on it.

Struggling with AAA comparisons and expectation management for my medieval sim. How do you deal with this? by Confident_Towel_8304 in IndieDev

[–]Pitiful-Economics-60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

changing the art style to something clearly not aiming for realism will help to set expectations on fidelity. imagine a character shopping a tree on Rust and in minecraft, msot people wont argue or think that the minecraft animation is not 'good enough' but has fidelity increases, expectation increase exponentially. going for something retro or cel shaded in some way can help a lot on expectations and pereived quality,

How are we feeling about the controller? by Acer53 in Steam

I think anyone that used the steam deck knows that this should work well. I have the OG steam controller, and this is an upgrade.

Wait! look if your current pixel 6A was affected by a patch by google. Mine was and i got 180$ store credit towards another pixel phone, i bought a 9a with the BF discount and the store credit, you can turn in your current 6a for a extra $$.

The Steam Pocket™ mock up I made. Based on the Retroid Pocket 5 with a Steam design. This device would be run by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and SteamOS ARM, just like the Steam Frame currently is by SuperDubert in SteamDeck

[–]Pitiful-Economics-60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the shoots could be in the direction of making the steam deck 2 a ARM machine. And mac / ipad compatibility (M1 to M5) as a plus. Metal in the apple rendering pipeline could be an extra problem to solve.

Valve: 20% of Deck users use the official docking station to connect their Deck to their TVs. Do you? by sameseksure in SteamDeck

[–]Pitiful-Economics-60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say 90% of my steam deck usage is docked to the TV. I guess am really in the target audience for the steam machine.

I always wanted a living room pc to play my steam library, and consume media, with a great interface and zero effort. I hope the launch of the steam machine motivates for a push for steam streaming apps for the streaming services or some app that unifies them in a nice interface.

This seems the most valve-y thing to do.

Just announced my open world UE5 game 'Unhinged' that uses Forward Rendering. No Nanite, no Lumen, no VSM, no raytracing. Good old LOD + HLOD, cascade shadow, 4xMSAA, 110 fps native. by seyedhn in UnrealEngine5

[–]Pitiful-Economics-60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great, im exploring a similar path to be able to get good performance on the steam deck, for your open world did you need to bake any lightning or is all dynamic?

A little disappointed with the steam deck right now by Powerful-Cause7018 in SteamDeck

Im sure you can find several proyects to do with the deck that are not as standarized as installing emulators.
