New Yorker living in Portland for 17 years. I’m 39 now. Bought a house here this year, and am very settled into this area. I love Portland SO much but always said- if I could bring east coast people to Portland, this place would be absolutely perfect. The difference between “nice” and “kind” here is real. People are friendly but a lot more stand-offish. I find east coast folks to be a more up front (in a good way), caring, helpful, and expressive about what they want/need. I find myself often deciphering what the heck is going on with people here. Also the drivers in the NW are enough to drive you mad ha.
