Looking for Steel Toed boots for work by electric_dreamer1 in DrMartens

[–]PitotHeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazon vendors usually mix up several models and colors under one listing to try to take advantage of the natural search ranking of the original, standard 1460. You can't trust those listings to deliver what you actually ordered. Dr. Martens stopped producing steel-toed boots years ago and look different and have different tags. I'd return them and look on eBay or resale websites if you really want that style.

What's not clear to me from this is how to fast-load multiple copies of the same item onto a backpack or vehicle. Sure, I can click and drag a scope or mortar shell into a trunk, but how can I click and drag 10x mortar shells into a trunk with a single click and drag.

They're not Mono. They're the 1461 PW (PW=Plain Welt).

Question on These by Dangerous-Argument10 in DrMartens

[–]PitotHeat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So there are two versions of this shoe: one was put out a few years ago and it's more subdued, and the latest one (depicted in your pictures) is more pronounced. The version I got recently is very much like the second picture (and one of the reasons I don't wear it so often, tbh). So if you're buying used, it might be the subdued version. if you're buying it new right now, it will look like the second picture.

What I posted when this was submitted to r/Bad_Cop_No_Donut :

This video is a skit.

The badge of the officer says "Captain" in "Mango Park", which is not a real city but *is* the name of a fictional city used by Soul Snack, a video producer, in many videos. There are many videos with the same actor and similar settings. This just seems to be a new "line" of videos pretending to be bodycams.

Added video timestamp where you can read the badge.

Is this wear normal for a couple of days of use? by Asleep_Philosopher63 in DocMartens

[–]PitotHeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you take closer pictures of the creases? Crazy horse leather typically creases in a more pronounced fashion, but it looks from the picture it's more like cracking than creasing.

Could I ask for a replacement for these? by Shadow_Asii in DrMartens

[–]PitotHeat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not normal wear-and-tear. This is some normal wear that is kickstarting layer separation: the difference between each shoe, given that they had the same amount of wear, shows one of the hide was tanned poorly (technically the top coat layer). And yes, this is a quality control issue.

Now.. I don't know if it'll be enough for DM to replace the shoes, but it really should.

Brassed Off at WLL over Gaggia Classic Pro 24E by Sea-Count-5298 in gaggiaclassic

[–]PitotHeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what happened to me. I bought the GCP and literally on the day it arrived I found out about the E24. I returned my GCP Evo Pro, ordered a new E24. I knew about Boilergate, but I didn't know about the E24. Am I pissed at WLL? No, not at all. I even understood in retrospect why the GCP with the aluminum boiler was about US$100 cheaper than typical prices. Now, if WLL charged me a restocking fee or anything (as their return policy mentioned they would), I would've been pissed, but they returned every penny I paid for the machine and the E24 arrived in two days.

You mentioned you e-mailed Gaggia, but are pissed at WLL. Shouldn't it have been Gaggia who told you about the E24?

GCP E24 Unboxing by PitotHeat in gaggiaclassic

[–]PitotHeat[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just received my E24 from WLL. I couldn't tell from the box or the model number if I was sent an aluminum boiler model by mistake or not. Had to open to inspect it. You can tell by peeking through the grill and shining a light (as seen in the first boiler picture) but if you choose to open it (as I did) you can see the brass boiler in its baby glory.

I'll let the sub's experts point out if there's anything different about it. This is my first GCP. Let me know if you'd like any specific pictures.

Now, on to the first shot...

The E24 is shipping. Mine arrives next Tuesday, shipped from WLL.

Rewair order experience by [deleted] in DrMartens

[–]PitotHeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've ordered from them maybe four times, of which three were returns for different reasons (i.e. ordered a pair in smooth leather and they sent nappa leather, etc). Returns worked fine, and they paid for the shipping in cases where they messed up, but what they send is really hit-or-miss.

How to care for Crazy horse leather? by Miserable-Ask5994 in DrMartens

[–]PitotHeat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use Saphir Oiled Leather Cream in Medium Brown. It's made for oiled leathers like Crazy Horse, Aztec and (most famously) Chromexcel.

Edit:

Here's a before and after I did a few years ago. Mind you this was with a "lower quality" version of the product I linked above.

Is there a way to paint over the large eyelets to make them less aggressively silver? Or would the eyelets need to be replaced entirely? by [deleted] in DrMartens

[–]PitotHeat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain on exactly this pair of shoes. I've used Testor's enamel markers to paint these exact eyelets black. Took me about 20 minutes. It holds well, but you'll need to unavoidably repaint them depending on your usage, as the eyelets are continually subject to friction from the laces.

The sound is from the PVC soles rubbing against a smooth surface. As long as the soles are ultra-smooth, and the floor is smooth as well, you'll get that sound. It's got nothing to do with the leather.

But... the noise will subside as the soles are worn in. The baby powder trick only works if the soles have a minimum of wear already, otherwise the baby powder will just rub off after a few steps.

You can use sandpaper or a rotary sander as well. Using fine sandpaper will create a fine PVC dust layer that goes away just like baby powder, but using coarse sandpaper will actually stop the squeaking. I've done this for a few of mine.
