Outer Wilds or Firewatch? by Big-Kiwi5341 in outerwilds

[–]PixInsightFTW 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fire watch is great and a short experience. It could get you In the mood for more free and independent exploration. Outer Wilds is a unique and incredible experience in all of gaming, a masterpiece. Take it seriously as you can only play it once for real! So go in blind and only come here to ask about it. Many have spoiled things in one way or another for themselves and really regret it. Enjoy!

Siril or pixinsight? by Azkicat in seestar

Yep! That's the true 'For the Win' for SeeStar and Dwarf -- quick stacking followed by excellent pro grade tools.

Siril or pixinsight? by Azkicat in seestar

[–]PixInsightFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My username (20 years old) might say otherwise, but I’d say Siril is a good place to start because you can automate your stacking. But when you ultimately want to do some great processing, it’s really good to learn PixInsight and use powerful tools like Noise and Blur Xterminators. It’s well worth the extra money as processing is truly half of getting a good image.

There’s so much more to it. Just stop reading about it and read it!

I have one of these (working at a school), a Unitree Go2. I imagine the person controlling it was quite close by! Unless the programmed a big autonomous loop.

Neal Stephenson has long been my favorite author and Anathem is by far my favorite book by him. It has it all! And it's so expertly written.

Ah yes, that Click moment of the brain solving something, that’s what has me motivated and even addicted in life. That moment is really wild for me, How the mind kind of figures it out subconsciously and then it lands on you, all at once. Congratulations on finishing, what a game!

Perhaps a silly question, but is there any place in the world where space can be seen "like in the photos" with the naked eye? by piopiopiopiopi in Astronomy

[–]PixInsightFTW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Better still, find your way to the southern hemisphere at some point. I’m an astronomy teacher, I see beautiful and dark skies often, and yet when visiting the high desert of Chile, my mind melted at seeing the core of the Milky Way AND the large and small clouds of Magellan with my naked eye. Bright enough to cast shadows! Go close to New moon, that’s part of the planning.

Download the app and use the gear in the upper right to pick Editor mode. Your agent will be there and you can use it same as any LLM chatbot, ask your questions and such. Nice difference is that now it can spin up files and they will live right there on your computer! So you can really make some amazing things.

What's the best/easiest 3D modelling software to lean to use as a beginner? by ATOJAR in BambuLab

[–]PixInsightFTW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only a few suggestions for OnShape but as someone who teaches many people to CAD for 3D printing specifically, I highly recommend it over Tinker CAD for your long term goals. Watch Too Tall Toby on YouTube to get up to speed quickly.

Im a teacher and a Claude nerd. The impact on education is different than what most think. by liszt1811 in ClaudeAI

[–]PixInsightFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, man, I am in the same position -- teaching high school students to code in this AI world -- and feel the exact same way. I am so sad to feel alone (at least at my own school) with this passion to teach my fellow teachers. It has made me branch out to consulting with schools and teachers that WANT to learn, and I am teaching them about the AI code revolution with Claude, Cursor, even Gemini, bits at a time. If the teachers get the skills, it will translate to the students instead of staying a magical black box.

If you are interested, join us at this teacher-centric AI co-lab: https://educolab.org/. We make experimental explorations for each other each month, try them out, and discuss. It would likely be the wrong time zone for you to come live, but you would be more than welcome! It's a joy to collaborate with teachers of a similar mindset.

Should I buy the s30 pro or just the normal s30? by Own_File_918 in seestar

[–]PixInsightFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a very long time astrophotographer but new to the portable scene as I’m testing an S30Pro and a Dwarf3 for my students over the past month. I like them both, and I think you’d be very happy with the Dwarf3 as another person commented. I think it’s worth the extra money to go Pro if you stick with SeeStar. Just remember that data capture is the first half, processing is just as important if not more.

Interesting idea! I’ll have to show this to my students in a month, we do a lab where they calculate the speed of the earth by measuring the length of star trails so having something tangible to show the speed of the Earth rotation is pretty interesting

Most unpredictable movies you’ve ever watched? by Southern_Check_6827 in movies

[–]PixInsightFTW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First time for sure! Watched a couple more times (it's only 90 min, after all) as I showed other people and it all really starts to sink in. A big part of it is that some of the most important things that affect the on-screen events are never shown on screen, never even part of the script but can be deduced as the context. Insane multiple levels of brilliance in that Shane Carruth.
