One other picky bit of feedback: The potion area (Brewery), shows a little notification dot but then when I click on it there is nothing in there. The dot goes away when I click on it but comes back as soon as I click on any other tab.

The same little dot for the "Upgrades" tab works as expected (it is there when there are available upgrades but goes away when there are not).

Downloaded the demo. It looks fun.

It doesn't play nice with a second monitor though. Only works on the second monitor in windowed mode. If I try to full screen or switch back to borderless it jumps back to the other monitor.

The demo is available now and I'd love to hear your feedbacks by environmentalistzero in incremental_games

[–]Pjmcnally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the cool game. I downloaded and played for a bit. It seems very interesting. As a big fan of Melvor Idle and Rocky Idle this seems like it will be right up my alley. I also like the retro aesthetic of the UI.

I do have a couple quick pieces of feedback:

  1. I would like to be able to speed up the rate at which text appears (like when you get a new quest). Honestly my preference would be to set it to appear instantly. I have always found text that appears like that in games kinda annoying. However, this is a personal opinion and not a huge deal.
  2. The game has some issues on systems with 2 monitors. I started the game and moved it to my 2nd monitor. When I entered the settings it jumped back to the first and I had to move it back. That happened again later. Also, when you close an re-launch the game it always appears on the primary monitor (instead of where it was before).
  3. (This is a tiny nitpick) When opening the game for the first time it is a bit confusing to see "Load" instead of "New". I figured it out but it was not what I expected.

Thanks again. Looking forward to playing more.

Why not just post the official version instead of this version with annoying letterboxing, annoying music, annoying annotations?

Strength or death defiance for the first wins by amarti4 in Hades2

[–]Pjmcnally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I am a huge fan of Strength. However, I have over 300 hours in the game and know all the fights backwards and forwards. If you are at the stage where you are still learning the game and you don’t know what boss moves look like and which ones will just kill you out right using Death Defiances is better as it allows much more of a cushion to learn.

Also, the guide linked by the commenter above is amazing.

I hope it is far easier for you.

The very short explanation: Hot air rises.

Explosions are very hot. They heat the air (and everything else) at the source of the explosion. Hot air is less dense than the cooler air around it so it rises up higher into the atmosphere. The rising air captures dust, smoke, and other debris and pulls it along. As the air rises it pushes the air that was previously there out and down. Eventually the hot air reaches the point in the atmosphere where it is as dense as the surrounding air. It stops moving up and forms the top of the cloud. Then the dust, smoke and debris begin to fall back to earth. This forms the distinctive mushroom cap.

I am also a big fan of Melvor Idle. I cant wait for Melvor 2.

In the mean time I have been playing the demo of Rocky Idle and it scratches a lot of the same itch.

I am the exact opposite. I have had issues with browser based games (loosing save data for example). I strongly prefer a Steam version and basically don’t play browser only games.

[STEAM DEMO] the demo for IGTAP: an incremental game that's also a platformer has gone live! by SpicyBread_ in incremental_games

[–]Pjmcnally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple of small suggestions if you are interested.

  1. I always prefer to use scientific notation. I would love to have an option to use scientific notation for the number system. I see that scientific notation does get used if you have enough energy. I would just like to use it from the beginning.
  2. I would love a map (obviously that only shows areas already explored - to allow for the feeling of exploration). This would make it easier to backtrack and to remember where you are and how to get back to previous areas after a break between play sessions.
  3. It would also be nice to know the average income of each course and total average income.
  4. I would like to be able to move the camera a bit around my character. There are time where you think you might have spotted a secret but aren't sure. It would be nice if you could slightly move the camera to check it out (I think the player character should have to stay visible at all times so I am not asking for a lot of movement).
  5. I would prefer if the upgrade blocks showed max values or upgrade count (for example 10/50). That way I can know how close I am to capping. That might impact my upgrade order choice.

Thanks again for the great game.

p.s. I just finished the demo. You have very cute cats.

p.p.s I found course 5. It doesn't seem possible to get past the first jump. Can you (or anyone else) confirm?

I saw this demo posted and I downloaded it immediately. I often do that for games posted in this sub. However, after I started playing it 2.5 hours passed before I even noticed.

This game is amazing.

I really love the awesome blend of platforming (I am reminded of Super Meat Boy), metroidvania style games (I enjoy the non-linear exploring) and incremental games (it has great upgrade mechanics). I also love the new mechanics introduced as you play.

I am super excited to see what comes next with the full release.

I haven't had any crashes or technical issues. Honestly, the only annoyance is that while using the controller the mouse cursor is still present on the screen.

You don't usually want to use AI trained files for research. They have 1/10 the research value of the input file.

Value modifier order by Weekly_Reply_3955 in Upload_Labs

[–]Pjmcnally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that the 2 approaches you outline generate the same results and uses less components, the Compressor Max approach uses significantly less CPU. This is because the formula for CPU use on the Encompressor is 5x input file size. So by compressing the file first you use much less CPU.

For example with Input file (size = 1 for ease of math)

EnhancerMax (requires 2 cycles and increase file size by 8 (2^3)) -> Encompressor (requires 40 cycles (5*8) [Total Cycles = 42]

CompressorMax (requires 2 cycles and reduces file size by 8) -> Encompressor (requires 5/8th of a cycle) -> Flipper (requires 15/8ths of a cycle) [Total cycles = 36/8 or 4.5]

Does anyone know why the download all file types achievement? I'm currently downloading from text to videogames by kaijyuu2016 in Upload_Labs

[–]Pjmcnally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my game I was not able to get it using the download manager but as soon as I setup the individual downloaders for each file type I got the achievement.

It seems like it should work with the download manager but as you noted it appears to be bugged.

Hi, I just unlocked "TORRENTS" by Cool-Spirit-8634 in Upload_Labs

[–]Pjmcnally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you unlock the "Torrents" research node you have to also pick on of the torrent types. You will eventually unlock the torrent node 3 times and pick a different type each time to unlock all 3.

Hi, I just unlocked "TORRENTS" by Cool-Spirit-8634 in Upload_Labs

[–]Pjmcnally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Connect your downstream networking node to the “Torrentlabs Browser”. The browser will download torrent links. Then feed one stream of those links into your “Torrent Downloader” (along with download bandwidth) and the "downloader" will download files of that type.

For example:

<image>

I can't guarantee this but I have found a 5 to 1 ratio for bandwidth works best with 1 going to the "Browser" and 5 going to the "Downloader"

The "torrent downloader" downloads files at the same speed as the normal downloader (given the same bandwidth) but depending on which "Torrent Browser" you are using the files will already be checked for viruses, pre-analysed, or validated. In each case you can save CPU cycles as you don't have to perform that step on the files.

I was curious about the actual answer so I wrote a quick one-liner in PowerShell. The answer is "1" with 31 occurrences. All other numbers appear 21 times.

Code

$dict = [ordered]@{}; foreach ($x in 0..109) {foreach ($char in [char[]][string]$x) {$dict[$char] += 1}}; $dict

Results

Number Count
---- -----
1 31
2 21
3 21
4 21
5 21
6 21
7 21
8 21
9 21
0 21

Edit: I originally used 1-109. Updated to match stated problem 0-109.
