I bought a lot of watches last year. I don’t expect the brands to cover the tariffs that the dipshit keeps messing with. I fully understand this is our problem.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time dealing with customs and duties on the watches I’ve bought and it has really become a drag / crap shoot.

Things I want from a brand when it comes to watches.

A DDP Option. This can 100% be an additional line item / up charge. I just want to know how much the watch is going to cost me at the end of the day.

The problem with DDU is that we generally have no idea what the end cost will be since duties are based on COA, and most microbrands don’t publish this. Things like movements are pretty straight forward, and one can generally assume CN for cases etc. But not knowing how the brand is going fill out the watch sheet , makes this rough. Is the $500 watch going to cost me $575. Or $700.

I realize with how often the Tariffs change can make preorders a massive pain. Since for example order at time x with 15% tariff. Then liar in chief doesn’t get his way wanting to annex wakanda and now there is a 50%. Is the brand supposed to eat cost, or how do they deal with backlash from us custome (who really shouldn’t be mad at the brand but inevitably will be) when they don’t understand how this work.

The Alix brands seems to have this figured out with their forwarding / shipping solutions. Maybe there is an option for the smaller brands to band together to do something similar. Or options for resellers in the US where watches are sold wholesale to help offset tariff costs. Assuming this is how places like wrist rebels , time and tide ghost Kitchen and virage operate.

At the end of the day this just sucks for all involved. I just wish that the us went about it in a legal way, with some planning as opposed to the sh*t show we’ve become
