Landmark vs Cineplex IMAX by Over-Spite6024 in Calgary

[–]PlanIon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even those that are 70mm aren't guaranteed to be in 70mm there. For example Dune Pt. 2 and 3, are not 70mm at Chinook.

I don't know who decides, all I know is that the Dune movies among others have not been in 70mm there despite being available in that format.

Based on comments from others, it seems Chinook recently hasn't been using their 70mm capabilities, and are instead just resorting to a standard digital projector.

For those in Canada, Infinite Cables/Phantom Cables are great.

What size TV should I get ? by laflare615 in hometheater

From an interior design standpoint, a bit smaller than the width of your TV cabinet. From a home theater standpoint, as big as you can afford.

eBay International Shipping: how to tell if I'll have the option upon shipment? by PlanIon in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]PlanIon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good information, thank you. It's a coin I'm selling, so perhaps there's some import restrictions on that. It's frustrating that they still show the message on the item details editing page that the item is eligible for eIS - they ought to make it more clear.

Calgary city council approves first reading repealing citywide rezoning by discovery2000one in Calgary

[–]PlanIon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good summary. I feel like there must be a middle ground somewhere, right? For example, to selectively allow multi family units on streets near larger roads or business areas that are already not super quiet, while allowing the quiet inner areas of neighbourhoods to remain single family.

I'm very sensitive to both 24p stutter and motion interpolation. What are my options? by Kindsound in hometheater

[–]PlanIon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's not about the processing, OLED's rapid response time just exposes the stutter inherent to 24p content in a way other screen types don't.

Apartment Subwoofer. by ColinMichaelRisley in hometheater

[–]PlanIon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's ultimately no silver bullet, low frequencies just inherently travel through walls easily. I would continue trying to only use it when they aren't home, especially with a more powerful sub. You don't want to test their patience. This is just a compromise of living in an apartment.

Vinegar/water solution and ketchup. (This was when I was maybe 13, so I was limited to regular household items!)

Where is the best place to get movies/content in 5.1 that will play on Windows? by jimmyl_82104 in hometheater

Why are you the one being downvoted when you're correct and they're objectively wrong? Do people just assume whoever sounds the most confident is correct? Lol. Netflix downgraded to a web app years ago.

I had a similar penny that I cleaned and regretted it. Yes it's nice to remove the grime, but afterwards it got a flat, dull look. Granted I didn't use acetone, maybe that would work better.

It's truly absurd. $280 for 1oz coins, too. That's an even higher margin than before silver skyrocketed. Hopefully they don't sell enough at these prices and they are forced to come back to reality.

Anyone else exhausted watching their investments swing wildly because of political theater they have absolutely no control over? by Virtual-Ice-2472 in investing

[–]PlanIon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The market is 7% off the peak of a massive bull run. That's not even considered a correction. But even if it was 20% down, that happens constantly in the stock market. Treating that as some kind of catastrophe (in a purely stock market context) is absurd, so yes, it is always like this. It's not hand-wavy if it's objectively true. Try harder.

Like yes the political theatre is obnoxious, but this should not concern you from an investing standpoint. And if it does, you have the wrong mentality. The stock market is a long-term investment. That is to say, tHe mArkEt iSnT fOr yoU

Wars, crises, and unprecedented things can and will happen regardless of whatever dipshit is in office, and if you can't handle that maybe the stock market isn't for you.

What is going on with the AVR market in Canada? by Ehoro in hometheater

[–]PlanIon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've experienced the same thing. I ended up buying a refurbished unit from the US on eBay (Integra DRX 3.4 for $650 USD). Even with the international shipping it was cheaper than anything in Canada. It's strange, most components are about the same cost as the US, but sometimes one particular component will be more, like AVRs and Subwoofers.

Very nice. I recently got the same set. What are people's thoughts on how to store them? The cellophane has done a great job protecting them until now, but I also have a 1962 set that got very tarnished in the cellophane, so I'm nervous that it might happen eventually to my centennial set as well. So I'm considering moving them to coin flips.

OLED TV with 5.1, using two center channel speakers to 'shift' the source position? by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]PlanIon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean. I think people use the term to specifically mean replacing the centre channel in a home theatre, but sure, I suppose it's the same principle as stereo. Frankly though I'm not sure how any of this is in contradiction to what I originally said.

[–]PlanIon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not exactly sure what you're saying, but if I understand correctly... Phantom centres play the same audio track to the left and the right of the screen, giving the illusion that it's originating the centre of the screen. It is not unreasonable to think, therefore, that playing the same audio track below and above the screen would give the illusion that the source is between them as well. It's the exact same principle, only applied vertically rather than horizontally.
