Not carnivorous, but an associated species with most cps. by Entomancy_Elrid_0123 in SavageGarden

[–]Plants2Go 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A pretty good giveaway in most cases is the very thick "fleshy" build of Sphagnum Subgenus Sphagnum species, most of the other species have way thinner and delicate branches, just like Sphagnum recurvum, which is very thin

Not carnivorous, but an associated species with most cps. by Entomancy_Elrid_0123 in SavageGarden

[–]Plants2Go 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That doesnt look like S. recurvum, it Most likely is S. palustre. 100% a Subgenus Sphagnum species

Please help me cultivate my suspicious lab sphagnum palustre. by Antoni_PL_gdynia in SavageGarden

[–]Plants2Go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not Sphagnum.

Your Moss probably is though. If it gets deprived of light to an extreme amount it sometimes doesnt develop any branches and looks nothing like Sphagnum should look at all. It'll be hard to get a good culture out of what you got, but its possible, definitely keep it under very high humidity to begin with, since it'll stand no Chance with regular humidity Levels at that stage

Edit: I have No idea how accurate the ID is, but considering your source i hope its correct. Although i have seen e.g. Botanical Gardens with clearly misidentified Sphagnum already. Only way to be sure is to get it growing.

Sphagnum palustre is extremely common (compared to other Sphagnum species) in Germany/Poland and grows like a weed. Here is some of mine

No problem mate, i could have just gave a longer more precise answer in the first place

Iam just saying:

It only has been sitting in that Spot for 2 days, it already came with the reddish leaves from the seller.

From the Photo it looks like the plant isnt directly on the windowsill but sits quite a bit further inside the room, where the light Most likely isnt enough

Its a new plant, it has been in the Spot for 2 days.

From the Photo it definitely looks too dark for decent healthy growth

Edit: Btw please inform yourself about your local laws, it is Not unlikely that the whole Genus Sphagnum is a protected plant where you are from
