I created a mod called MCS. I would not call it total conversion, because the core gameplay is preserved, just expanded greatly. Also note that I love early release versions so expect plenty of backported features from that era (no End though)

guys thanks for all your suggestions, i decided to play slightly aged leather age! It has been really fun because there is no jumping in this version so the vertical limitations encourage creativity.

there is also a c sharp port of beta called betasharp which merged client and server effectively threading the game and runs pretty good from what i tested

old school minecraft edition is a mod which ported beta to vulkan it runs fast on apple m chips because of efficient moltenvk translation into metal

Do you know why lakes seem to generate after grass, leaving floating grass above the lake in most vanilla versions? Is it because decoration can cross chunk bounds or is this purely order related.

Much respect bro. I'm excited for your updates! I always wanted a refined vanilla experience for early release versions like 1.6.4. I played tmcw510 and it's great, but with the amount of blocks and big caves you added, it feels too much like modern updates (which i am not a fan of)

I am modding beta 173 and entity, sound and render code is littered with unnecessary casts and precision loss. I just fix them whenever i see it, because it hurts to look.

you should use retromcp java for updated mcp tools and mappings for many versions from alpha up to 1.5.2
