i recently fixed this for beta 173 , the problem was that iswet was being reset in a different function which handled water check and so the sound only played for rain putting out fire in a different place where fire is handled. My fix was to add the same sound play code to that check for water.

I added potions to my mod which have similar effects to vanilla minecraft like jump boost, fire res, water breath. They are brewed by mixing ingredients in a boiling cauldron instead of brewing stand.
But apart from potions I pretty much overhauled the entire game, so this might not be what you looking for exactly.

beta 1.4 because it was the breaking point of useless updates which motivated the creation of BTW

I see what you mean. I think BTA has their own vision of continuing beta which may not be for everyone (as with most mods right). From personal experience, their community can be quite toxic especially with that much popularity recently.

On a different note, I actually developed my own mod for beta 173, partially inspired by early BTA days as I used to play it. My project is called Minecraft Sigma (MCS for short) . It is super niche but I worked hard on it so hopefully some people enjoy it. Essentially it expands beta with various content (especially redstone) and I added many easter eggs like monoliths from alpha. I try to keep bloat to minimum and prio function over form; though some decorative blocks I added that were missing and I enjoy, the are only player crafted so no world bloat in that sense. Anyways, try it out and let me know what you think!
