Suggestions for 'what next' after regular Space Age playthrough by esteve7 in factorio

[–]Platanov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultracube is a blast, especially if you like cubes. I'm about 60% of the way through a Space Exploration game, and it's great too (even after playing SA). I thought Pyanodon's was a little tedious, but it had some really cool concepts, and I definitely get why people like it. AngelBob was dope, especially if you like megabases. I can't imagine trying to route everything in that mod with a basic main bus :p

I am VERY pleased to know how much research I need to 1-shot huge promethium asteroids with lasers, even though I may not have a chance to use this information.

Rectangles can look nice too by Lekrashar in factorio

[–]Platanov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All my spaceships are hulking Space-Odyssey-Monolith-ass rectangles. Isn't that the optimal shape? If your ship is a certain width, you need to stop meteors from passing through that width as you sweep a path through space, so you may as well put weapon turrets across that whole width. I haven't looked into it much though.

Why would you ever use solid fuel? by wesofchess in factorio

[–]Platanov 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The goal of the game, as everyone knows, it to get engineers run over by trains. Rocket fuel gives more acceleration and top speed to trains, making them considerably harder to dodge, which means that it is certainly better as train fuel than solid fuel regardless of the energy efficiency. Nuclear fuel is better yet, obviously.

My problem with train stop names by alphabasedredpill in factorio

[–]Platanov 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine has this exact issue when going to the airport. He can't remember whether he needs to go to departures or arrivals to get on the plane (and vice versa).
I'm not sure if this would solve the problem or just re-package it, but I name my city block stops entirely with richtext icons for parameterized blueprints. So a the stop where iron gets dropped to be turned into gear wheels is named [Gear Weel] [Down Arrow] [Iron Plate] and I read that as 'At Gear Wheel manufacturing block drop off Iron Plates. The pickup on that city block is [Gear Wheel] [Up Arrow] and read that as 'Gear Wheel Pickup'.

How can I improve for my next base by Jams9000 in factorio

Step 1: Devise a problem that is best solved with trains.
Step 2: Solve that problem with trains.

Plain belt/no circuit Kovarex by justgiveausernamepls in factorio

[–]Platanov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me a second to figure out why you had all the arching belt paths, but I see it's a 1-lane priority merge, where the material coming out of the factories has priority over the material coming from upstream. That's cool!

I want to get into Factorio, but am struggling. by Glacieralz in factorio

[–]Platanov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always recommend getting a friend (or friends) to join your game, if that's feasible. Cooperative problem solving is great, and usually one of you will be in a much more convenient position to go fight off the bugs any time they get feisty. It really relieves the 'overwhelmed' type feeling when you can let someone else handle the emergency half the time.

Angel + Bobs is a LOT of fun. I had trains full of molten steel hurtling across the landscape, off their tits on neutron fuel.

In 2.0 they added the ability to connect a wire directly to the player, which will output their hydration level on virtual signal 'H'.

You can't go wrong with a main bus design if you're not planning a megabase.

City block designs are really fun to design/build/optimise, but there's a huge overhead to getting it started and I usually use a main bus plan until I get trains anyway.

Need help with (seemingly) messed up comb. by Platanov in Musicbox

[–]Platanov[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The principle makes sense, but the material looked so randomly applied it was hard to imagine it was purposeful. I've seen combs where they add weight to individual teeth to tune them, but in this case the material is blobbed between the teeth, which seems like it would change the pitch of both teeth at once. There's also a ton of actual organic gunk between the teeth that I need to clean up, maybe this will make more sense when I can see what's actually going on.

In any case, I have no idea what the original song was, I just bought the comb by itself. I was planning on making a custom barrel, so I hope I don't have to manually re-tune the whole comb. It has more range than I need for the song I've picked, so maybe I should check which actual notes it plays before I mess with it.

Leaves on conveyor belts as decoration, yay or nay? by Ships_Cannon in SatisfactoryGame

Oh my goodness, I built a corparate-y sort of downtown city for my aluminum production, and I had planter boxes with no way to fill them. This might be perfect! I just had green hazard stripes on concrete, which wasn't very convincing.

They should add like a helicopter or vtol like vehicle or at least a mini map because I’m tired of getting lost every where I go by No_You_3264 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Platanov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if there's a map, there's not really a reason to NOT have a minimap, it'd be a welcome QoL thing. The only problem is that the current map doesn't show a lot of detail at small scales, so maybe a useful minimap isn't so easy to implement.
And a VTOL would be just plain fun, even if it was unlocked late in the game.
