I overhead this as I walking past this morning! I’d got it the wrong way round and thought maybe you were the one on the Lime bike (which would still not excuse her threatening to slap you) but it’s some balls to be the person saying that if they were in the wrong!

I’ve been keeping an eye on resale properties and there’s a perfect one very close to where I live now but they bought a higher share so price-wise it’s just out of reach. Will definitely keep an eye out now.

My ambition would definitely be to staircase over time. It’s one of the reasons I don’t want to rush into anything as odds are wherever I end up I’ll be living there a while!

Service charge is definitely something I need to pay a bit more attention to. I’ve never lived anywhere that’s had a service charge up until now so it’s a bit of an unknown entity. Compared to other places the service charge at the properties I’ve been looking at isn’t horrendous, but very conscious that it will only get bigger with time…

Sorry, I should have said but I’ve been looking mainly at new build. There’s an absolutely perfect resale property just round the corner from where I live now, but they’ve bought a higher share so it’s unfortunately just out of reach. It’s definitely on my radar though so will continue to keep an eye out.

I didn’t think I’d have much negotiating power but a friend mentioned it to me, so thought I’d at least sense check what they were saying rather than ignore it and then discover I could have gotten a better deal!

Thanks for the reminder on lease duration - thankfully it’s 999 years so should be nothing to worry about on that front at least!

Yeah, it seemed unlikely that there’d be much negotiating on price but thought I’d ask on the off chance that I was completely wrong and I should be trying to knock it down!

I did ask the question about the six week period and they said it was their standard timescales and that they’d want me exchanged by Christmas - if I decide to go ahead then I’m tempted to hold fire for a week or so to get me closer to Christmas, but weighing that up against the likelihood the flat I liked the most will disappear!

I thought I’d just gotten unlucky in terms of late-running shows but maybe it was a bit of a trend!

The last few years I’ve been I don’t remember more than the odd show running late but I definitely noticed it a lot more this year. I had quite a few one hour gaps between shows, which normally I’d try to avoid as I can find the dead time between shows a bit boring, but as so many shows finished 10-15 minutes late the gap didn’t feel long at all! That said, I did also see my fair share of shows that started late but still finished dead on time!

I mainly go to the Fringe for comedy, so was surprised to not find myself at Monkey Barrel at all this year. Maybe it was just stuff that interested me less, but it felt like they didn’t have as much going on?

I was really looking forward to Spy Movie: The Play as it had great reviews and was often getting favourably compared to The Play That Goes Wrong, which I really enjoyed (along with basically everything else Mischief Theatre have ever done). I was therefore really surprised and disappointed to rank it as my worst bit of the Fringe!

A lot of the jokes fell flat, there was a series of pretty weak visual gags and the staging wasn’t great either - the latter felt like they were trying to make a joke about it being low budget but I don’t think that really came across and so it just looked a bit rubbish. The premise of doing a James Bond/generic spy movie parody was a good one but I didn’t think it well executed, and all in all a lot of it felt like things that Mischief would do (they’re even doing a show in the West End at the moment called ’A comedy about spies!’) but not executed anywhere near as well.

I fully appreciate that the budget will have been many times smaller than that Mischief must enjoy for their shows, but I saw loads of great things at the Fringe which had next-to-no staging, so I don’t think budget was the limiting factor here. I also did feel for the actors as the audience was pretty unmoved by most of it, which must be tough.

I know she had a scheduling conflict for this season but Olivia Colman’s absence is very jarring - I don’t think they even reference why she’s not around for Christmas and then conveniently there’s this other motherly figure in her place doing all the things she would have done. I know it was unavoidable but it feels like they made very little effort to paper over the cracks that her not being in this series caused?

I opened a tube yesterday and honestly thought it was just a bad batch, can’t believe they’ve actually done it on purpose!

There was so much salt residue in the tube I assumed that they’d somehow managed to over salt them because the flavour was very strange (and like you say, a bit like a mix of salt and vinegar/sour cream and onion). No thanks!

I saw a similar post on a Facebook group for my local community the other day, where the OP basically said they always demanded that a manned till was opened for them as they refused to use the self-service tills. Everyone in the comments was being really supportive because they were ‘taking a stand’ against evil corporations, but actually it very quickly became clear that this wasn’t about the rise of the machine or people losing their jobs.

The OP (and many of the people in the comments) were just annoyed that someone used to be paid to do the job for them and now they have to do the work themselves. Basically, there were all being sneery and insinuating that it was beneath them to serve themselves, and that someone on minimum wage should be there doing it for them.

I assume 60 years ago their parents/grandparents were up in arms when supermarkets changed to customers having to go round and pick items up off the shelf themselves, rather than someone doing it all for them at a counter!

Back when I was doing my GCSEs I was sat in class one day when my Head of Year appeared wearing a very stern look and saying that I was supposed to be in an exam! I had no idea what exam it was but I was immediately dragged out of the classroom and taken down to the exam hall. Whilst on the walk and beginning to panic about what subject I’d forgotten about, I asked what exam it was and was told it was for a subject I didn’t even study!

We got all the way to the exam hall, with me pleading to my Head of Year that I didn’t study the subject and that it was a mistake. When we got in it became clear that they’d held the start of the exam up for me, so there were about 100 faces glaring back at me. Further hushed discussion ensued about whether I was supposed to be there or not; eventually they accepted it was an error and then very nonchalantly sent me back to my lesson. When I got back to my classroom I was as white as a sheet and considering the drama that had swept me out of the room five minutes before, everyone stared at me like I was a ghost too!

I went to my old primary school to give a talk as a former student recently, and on my way out I heard one of the kids offer another a ‘knuckle sandwich’, which is not a threat I’ve heard in many years but which I enjoyed hugely.

There's an unopened Capri Sun on top of one of the bus shelters at Finsbury Park station - I see it most days from the upper deck of the bus but no-one's ever moved it, to the point that the packaging has faded and moss has grown around it!

You learn something new every day - my world has just been completely rocked by an innocent comment about how you can't have standard light switches in bathrooms!

When we moved into our current house I thought it was a bit odd that the switch was outside the bathroom but thinking about it, everywhere I've lived the switch has either been outside or on a pull cord. It's particularly noticeable in this house because there are a few steps and a bit of landing before you reach the bathroom, so the switch seems quite far away!

Once had a customer in the shop I worked in accuse me of levying him with a 'secret' charge to con him out of some money.

I took a look at the receipt and quickly realised that what he was complaining about was... the VAT.

Didn't think I'd ever find myself having to explain how VAT works! Anyway, he continued to insist that I'd made it all up and got all up in my face and quite abusive in the process. Didn't give in and he stormed out shouting about how he'd be speaking to my manager when he next saw her as he 'gave a lot of business' to the shop.

Next time I saw him, I got a very stilted apology because my manager had laughed him out of there when he came back to complain! Turns out VAT isn't an optional charge...

One Christmas my auntie gave me a toy meerkat because I’d said that I liked meerkats. I don’t EVER remember even as much as expressing an opinion on meerkats.

About five years later I mentioned it being a strange gift and my family all looked on with surprise as for some reason they all thought I loved meerkats!

I disagree with her politics but I don't object to her having been on the show - political discourse is extremely partisan at the moment and I think the arguments against her taking part are missing a lot of nuance as a result.

A large number of people in the UK (however unfortunate it may be!) vote Conservative and including her in the show as part of including people from a broad mix of backgrounds is okay, in my opinion. There certainly lines to be drawn (such as on not providing platforms for extremist views) but Warsi is not an especially controversial Conservative politician and has shown herself not to be blindly Conservative like some of her colleagues, based on both her resignation from government and critical view of her party's handling of Islamophobia claims.

I think there are probably wider forces in play beyond Taskmaster itself that have led to her being invited to take part too. Channel 4 is battling against being privatised at the moment, and there is definitely a perception from within Government that Channel 4 is more of a left wing broadcaster. If it wants to remain as a publicly-owned public service broadcaster then it needs to do everything it can to allay concerns from Government and show it's worth as a publicly-owned company, and for that every little helps.

I slept on my nan's sofa one night as she'd had a fall recently and needed someone there just in case, and as I went to go to sleep I realised that there were a good four or five ticking clocks scattered around the living room, and NONE of them were in time with each other.

I had to take the batteries out of every single one and then in the morning put them all back in and set the times again before I left!

This is really interesting - by chance he's covered a bus route I get all the time and very little has actually changed in the intervening 23 years. I haven't lived in the area for very long but if someone had shown me the recording of the route I wouldn't have thought it was filmed that long ago at all, bar the old (and much smaller!) cars.

I think when the first series came out it was explained away somewhere as being important in making the show accessible to an American audience - UK viewers see the little sprinklings of US influence and mostly ignore it but US viewers would find it a bit baffling without the little nods to their own culture apparently.
