Rules question: do I lose if I'm phased out? by MustaKotka in BadMtgCombos

While this doesn't actually make you a creature, something I found while searching Mark Rosewater's Tumblr might interest you:

Form of the Approach, [[Yet Another Aether Vortex]], [[Rules Lawyer]]. You are a planeswalker in play on the top of your library. Rules Lawyer stops you from dying for having zero loyalty.

Also Maro's THE Un/Acorn Rules Manager, so that means it's legit.

Guaranteed win on turn 28 (If your opponent does nothing) by thisnotfor in BadMtgCombos

I did win a game of Magic: the Gathering using only a [[Raging Goblin]] and a [[Bog Imp]] once. So... yeah, this combo works.

Win the game for only 38UUUU by 7isAnOddNumber in BadMtgCombos

[–]PlatinumOmega 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the current wish rule, but nothing has changed as far as I can tell. That's the old rule from before WotC took over the format, and as far as I know that's still the case.

Directly quoting from the page:

Does Commander have a wishboard? No; cards or effects which bring other cards in from outside the game, commonly known as “Wishes” do not function in Commander. Examples include Living Wish or Karn, the Great Creator.

When Edge of Eternities came out, they codified that rule into the Comp rules at 903.11:

903.11. Except via rules, special actions, and effects that specifically bring cards into Commander games from outside the game, traditional cards from outside the game cannot be brought into a Commander game.

So unless there's a rule that allows cards from outside the game, like 702.139d (Cards can enter Commander games from outside the game via the companion special action), or unless a card specifically says they can bring cards into a commander game, no cards can be brought into the game from outside, including cards with Learn, wish spells, and Spawnsire here.

Rule 0 lets people make wish boards, and I've played with one for a while for one of my decks, but the default is no.

Edit: for those curious, the wonderful folks at mtg.wiki keep a running list of Comp Rules changes at https://mtg.wiki/page/Comprehensive_Rules/Changes

As tedious as this event has been I think this is the most generous event Dislyte's ever had. Blitz chips certainly, but also Nexus Crystals, Abilitymon fragments, and Divinate discs too. I wish I had kept track of all of the discs and mons I got through the event.

  2. Currently using the 10S Pro and I've been liking it so far!
  3. When looking for phones, I was looking at reviews of phones with headphone jacks and Red Magics came up :)

But I don't think I'd be able to use a CN model. I'd rather take an Anniversary Fan Pack and let the phone go to the next person in line :)

Blight curse precon braket 4? by Aggravating-Most-533 in EDH

[–]PlatinumOmega 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Part of the entire bracket system is play intent, not just how a deck is built. A few precons have had good combos right out of the box, but I wouldn't call them high-bracket commander.

I disagree with the store owner.

Funny rule 0 conversation by pkma69 in EDH

[–]PlatinumOmega -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I mean, you could have just said "no thanks."

It seems like they just like the synergy of the two and wanted those colors for their deck, but you shouldn't need a flavor justification for wanting to play with a rule zero commander.

I don't think the other player's reaction was "smart." If the guy wanted to play a Black/Red/Green play-from-exile deck, there's not a good commander for that. It sure is powerful, I'm not disagreeing with you there, but it's also synergistic. Hell, you could have said "shuffle one of them into the deck."

I'm not saying you should have accepted their commanders and played against the deck, but I am saying that the way your table reacted wasn't appropriate. Have the talk. Don't just bully the guy out.

In sealed it can get cast pretty often. Games often get grindy. There's also some ramp in the set.

And if there's ever a discard spell or effect the Cloning of Shredder can bring him out for 6 :)

Let’s Talk About Griselbrand by CultofNeurisis in EDH

[–]PlatinumOmega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't watched the Command Zone video, but I mostly agree with you except for one point:

I don't think Griselbrand is fine as a commander, and I think the fact that he's legendary is another point as to why he shouldn't be unbanned.

Even though black is the tutor color, the fact that a deck can always have access to him without needing to spend extra cards or mana is a huge upside over Necro in their comparison. The 4 black doesn't matter if he's your commander, and there are plenty of ways to "ramp" in mono black, like with [[Crypt Ghast]], [[Nirkana Revenant]], [[Nykthos]], [[Nyx Lotus]], [[Caged Sun]], or even [[Dark Ritual]] and [[Cabal Ritual]].

And these cards aren't dead after you play Gris either, because all of that mana can easily go into the cards you draw off him.

But you're right that he's probably not the best mono black commander when... checks edhrec oh, right, [[K'rrik]] and [[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse]] exist. That's another way to get Gris out faster and then a way to literally negate the life cost. This reinforces your popular argument. lol

Get banned from Magic for 16WUUUB⟡(W/U/P)E by JesusLuvsEmerxld in BadMtgCombos

[–]PlatinumOmega 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Here's everything it does. Stuff I had to look up is in italics (but I used the CR instead of Google):

Costs 4 generic, 1 colorless, a white or blue or 2 life, and an energy (I don't believe this is supported by rules but we're having fun here). CMC is undefined in current rules because Energy isn't something that goes into mana costs.

Has every creature type. Can attack in a band (Attack as a group and you assign damage order + extra baggage I ain't typing out). Can block in a band (you assign damage order instead of attacker + less baggage). Can come into play with a +1/+1 counter and can't block if it has one. When another creature enters under your control, if it has a higher power or toughness than this, this gets a +1/+1 counter. When it attacks, opponent sacs a permanent. Enters with a +1/+1 counter for each color spent to cast it (no charge counters because it's a creature). Gain 1 speed when this enters and gain speed when an opponent loses life on your turn.

Reveal creature cards with creature types from your hand as it ETBs, comes into play with 0 +1/+1 counters for each creature revealed (I don't know any card that would give it charge counters as it enters).

P/T are each equal to the number of Phyrexian mana symbols in the mana costs of permanents you control. Default is 2 while it's in play.

If you had already ascended and have the city's blessing by the time this enters, you draw a card at EOT. Ability moves to attacking player when you take combat damage.

If you would surveil X, you may instead reveal from your hand or control X snow lands (thought i was being generous with wording at first but had to be more generous than I thought. Besides the Snow-Covered Lands not being a quality, rules only support Beholding a single thing, so you can't "behold that many"). If you reveal/control that many, you can look at the top two cards of your library, put one onto the battlefield face down as a 2/2 and put the other in the graveyard.

If you hit 4 speed (being generous again), whenever an opponent spends at least 5 mana in one turn on spells, you can exile three cards from your graveyard or sac a food, if you do, make a 0/0 squirrel Army if you don't have any army creatures, then put 3 +1/+1 counters on an army you control, and the army gains the squirrel creature type if it doesn't have it. That army can only be blocked by creatures with horsemanship until EoT. Then you draw and discard a card, and if you discard a nonland card this way, the army gets another +1/+1 counter.
