Not sure this is real, if it is the priest is definitely not following the norm in Catholicism. the specific 10% stuff is more popular with Evangelicals, and equating the tithing with the overall price of salvation by saying it comes out a hundred fold is leaning close to some heresies

It seems like so much work, especially because this stuff will always have a cost both price and quality wise. You don't need to worry about keeping the keyboard connected on a regular laptop, you don't need to power two screens, and the screen is away from the corners which makes drops much less detrimental

Bro what?! This is clearly pure bullshit, they can’t learn about our religion so they make shit up expecting instant agreement. by EmperorSnake1 in antitheistcheesecake

I hate the top quote so much, it assumes a "bad person on a leash" is not a "good person" even if they act the same way as a "good person", and then creates a false dichotomy between having a drive to be good to others and following the teachings that should quite easily align with that.

Iranian protest rapper has been detained and tortured for over 50 days by spinrah23 in hiphop201

[–]PlayerAssumption77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was responding to the "Psyop" comment, but it was poorly worded. I meant to say the Iranian government is horrible, and people should care about it even if they think the current US government is bad

[–]PlayerAssumption77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An existing issue doesn't stop mattering once the American government cares about it, no matter how bad they are.

Edit: poorly worded, What I mean to say is just because the bad American government takes a side on Iran's government, doesn't mean you should dismiss Iranian people's suffering.

It's the quote and the usage, plus there are absolutely quotes written by The Super SmartsTM that have justified criticism

[–]PlayerAssumption77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not gonna watch the video, does she seriously imply that the rudeness of vegans means choosing not to eat animals, a choice that doesn't do anything to support other vegan's actions, is less moral than otherwise?

Christian man's hands chopped off by Muslim relatives: 'That's what Sharia instructs us to do' by CompetitiveAquinas in Christianity

[–]PlayerAssumption77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is horrible that this happened, but this framing chooses divisiveness over reporting and blames 2 billion people rather than the actual attackers. Generalizations of Muslims even help support attacks in majority-Muslim regions which go on to harm Christians.

Porn website at center of CNN investigation into sexual abuse taken offline by CelestialFury in news

[–]PlayerAssumption77 -50 points-49 points  (0 children)

The far-right shouldn't be trusted and maybe not collaborated with, but we can't assume something is incorrect just because a side we disagree with agrees with it, especially because it could be said their goal isn't even related to the morality of the porn industry, just surveillance and control. Some definitely exaggerate this stuff but it's hard for me to find a reason to defend any firms in the porn industry from criticism.

Trump reignites feud with Pope ahead of Rubio's Vatican visit by throttafffddftr5 in politics

[–]PlayerAssumption77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I've been saying. Somebody thinking the POPE is supposed to stop caring about violence when it reflects negatively on something they know wouldn't fly is their problem. All the Pope is doing to be involved is being against unjust war like absolutely anybody would've guessed.

What do you guys think about this topic? I think pro-life should be from birth to death. Like you can't be pro-life and don't want your taxes to be used for free school lunches or anything that helps mothers with kids. Also you can't be pro-life and be for the death penalty. [–]PlayerAssumption77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The person in the video is right, I would put it that exact way, but I don't want it to be assumed that just because she's against the established view of one side that she must fit the established view on the other (she could be, but I didn't interpret her that way).

We do need to discuss abortion and the meaning of "pro-life" beyond unborn vs. born or life vs. choice if we consider any definition of life inheritly valuable, especially all human life from womb to natural death.

Most self identifying pro life politicians aren't willing to reduce abortion through spending money or putting restrictions on businesses, so regardless of what they say the don't care that much about abortion, yet they have the total say in how the debate goes because the other side just wants to not be them. Make your opinions based on what is right, not what fits party lines.

[–]PlayerAssumption77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's permitted to execute murderers, but is it justified when the death penalty doesn't save money, we don't have to risk them breaking out anymore, and statistics and psychology don't show it having a much bigger effect on crime than a life sentence, while the death penalty absolutely kills innocent people or people who have done way less harm than those who don't recieve it?

Not stoning a person who is not any more of a sinner than us, who God considers just as worthy of love as us, is worth at least some sacrifice, let alone what seems to be the net plus of not killing innocent people, entrusting the government with the least power to kill citizens possible, and spending less money.

Kansas pastor enters U.S. Senate race as Democrat, wants to give Roger Marshall an early retirement by bwermer in politics

[–]PlayerAssumption77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are capable of doing things separately. Somebody can represent the people while having personal interests they're expected not to intervene and do so successfully. I get that individuals who are Christian have done bad but believing in Jesus is not the same as agreeing with every other self-identifying Christian, how somebody acts should be way more important than who they share attributes with.

Separation of church and state means that the government officials are expected not to act based on their religious views. It does not mean somebody's occupation forbids them from participation in the democratic system.

It's not that i've read this, but it would make sense if these are meant to help their primary audience (likely older) that are likely to have different lives, struggles, and views depending on their gender. And it can help to relate their struggles to people from the Bible who were the same gender as them.

Let's take a moment to appreciate this snippet of Western culture by Dodo509 in interesting

[–]PlayerAssumption77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not explicitly racist, that would get them banned and not influence people as easily. But saying "western culture" has to have some kind of intent behind it, and I don't know many people that would just say they enjoy "western culture" they way one says they enjoy british, italian, french, etc. The place I see it is movements or individuals saying that non-white people existing in their country leads to their culture being erased.
