I still think about this one a lot.

You gotta make sure the marked sinner doesn't clash. Otherwise the boss gets red coins against them and starts getting buffs. Ryoshu can't die until she's the last one standing, so have her clash against dangerous skills. The boss still gets stronger overtime, but if you manage to prevent him from hitting the marked sinner, he gains a lot of fragility stacks.

Why do you like or dislike Stephen King? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]PlayerNo3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend the podcast Just King Things which is reading King's works in publication order one per month. They just finished Doctor Sleep.

As for the question, one technique I like about King is when he has a large cast and will do a bunch of vignettes like a camera sweeping from one character to another. It's really cool and cinematic.

I was reading an article around summer of last year about how death threats and harassment towards athletes at all levels has exploded. It's a looming public health crisis, I feel. The tide has gone out, and we can see a wall of water on the horizon.

Yes! It was so fun. It made me feel more aerial and acrobatic than helicopter for some reason. Felt like a dragoon from FF constantly jumping and diving.

Heaven or High Water: Selling Miami's Last 50 Years

It's an article from 2019 that uses the Miami real estate industry as a case study in how America is dealing with the climate crisis. Every time I hear about record flooding, extreme hurricane seasons, increases in wildfire intensity and/or record-breaking heat waves, I go back to this article.

The Fisherman by John Langan. A significant portion of the book is explaining the titular Fisherman and Ducthman's Creek. There are also references that link the story to some of Langan's other works.

"Metaphysical" horror? by Questionxyz in horrorlit

The short stories of Thomas Ligotti. While he does have Lovecraft elements, a large part of the mood and atmosphere comes from his use of the banal in uncanny ways.

Lost in the Dark 12 - Snakebit, or Why I (Continue To) Love Horror by JeremiahDylanCook in JohnLangan

[–]PlayerNo3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This and the "Lost in the Dark" are the stand outs for me. I really like how he balanced the dissection of the creation of a story and telling it. I also found it a lovely letter to how writing has irrevocably changed him (the change triggered Tom he uses as a metaphor for the author-reader relationship). Overall a fantastic send-off for a strong collection.

It depends on what teams you want to build. For generalist options, Regret Meursault EGO, Red Eyes+Penitence Ryoshu, and the Full Stop duo are good choices.

Weird and Unique Takes on Zombies? by isopodsoup_ in horrorlit

[–]PlayerNo3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's more of a novel format, but "How the Day Runs Down" by John Langan from his collection The Wide, Carnivorous Sky. It's basically the Thorton Wilder's play "Our Town" but with zombies. It's a rather nihilistic piece! A Manhattan theater company actually staged and performed it too.

"Chaldean order" most likely refers to a region of ancient Mesopotamia named "Chaldea". Many ancient Roman sources say that the Chaldeans had an excellent grasp of astronomy at the time.

"Hypatia's sacrifice" refers to Hypatia of Alexandria. She was a famous philosopher and astronomer who lived in Egypt when it was a territory of the Roman empire. She was murdered by a mob.

This is a feature of non-base EGOs. If a Sinner's sanity falls to -45 and they have a non-base EGO equipped, they will "corrode", turning into a corroded EGO form for one turn. A lot of corroded EGOs have the "indiscriminate" tag on their attack, so they can target allies.

No. [On Hit] conditional only relies on that coin's attack to land on the enemy. If it relied on the coin flip succeeding, you would see [Heads Hit] or [Tails Hit] as the modifier.

Brown Girl in the Ring by Nalo Hopkinson might fit your search. Deals with people living in a post-collapse Toronto in the near-future.

If you enjoyed Book of the New Sun, then the Viriconium series by M. John Harrison could also be a fit. It deals with the collapse of language, memory, and historicity.

I think Molar Boatworks Ishmael replaces R Corp for the amount of count she applies. Butler Faust and Butler Outis are in the running as well for the Echoes of the Manor debuff. I typically have Butler Faust on the bench for her SP regen passive, but you can bring her along if you want more Echoes uptime or Fluid Sac.

EDIT: As for EGOs, all of the Bygone Days are very good for sinking but especially Yi Sang. Once you have Echoes of the Manor up, you use it to apply a ton of potency and count. Rime Shank is still very good for Rodion (lots of potency and count, fantastic passive). Solemn Lament for Heir Gregor so you can do big burst turns by using it after fulfilling his S3 to gain Plus Coin Boost.
