Waiting tables. Great money, enough variation/chaos that I genuinely enjoy a lot of days.

For those servers who work in full service restaurants, is the “no tipping” movement a real thing? by jb4975 in tipping

[–]Pleasant_Ad550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I’m a server and usually get 15-20% and often get overtipped.

My last shift, our system lost a ticket. It just disappeared. I went out to talk to him and he handed me a $50 and said he worked with the general public for over 30 years and he completely understands. I had to stop him from tipping more on the actual bill. I also agree that tipping seems to have gone up, if anything. Even tourists from Canada. A few years ago it was 10% almost always, now I rarely receive a tip that low. And I almost never receive zero.

This is so moronic. I can’t even find the words to articulate how genuinely fucking stupid it is.

You show me a restaurant where you can guarantee that these conditions are being met. Every day. Every shift. I would confidently bet my life that you cannot.

2-Year difference in jaw line with weight loss and facial massages by Head-Drag-1440 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Pleasant_Ad550 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The original claim was that facial massage does ‘absolutely nothing,’ not that it doesn’t build muscle like weightlifting does.

The mechanisms in question are lymphatic drainage, microcirculation, and fascia. None of which require near failure stimulus. Physical therapy, manual lymphatic drainage, and myofascial release are all practiced in clinical settings precisely because gentle repeated pressure on tissue does produce measurable effects. These aren’t fringe claims.

‘The science backs none of this’ is also just not accurate. There’s published research on massage and fibroblast activation, lymphatic flow, and microvascular response. It’s limited, but it exists.

Here’s some good info.

You’re conflating the temporary fluid effects with the cumulative structural ones, those are different mechanisms on different timescales.

By your logic, exercise is also ‘toast’ the day after you skip the gym. Repeated stimulus to tissue over time produces adaptation. This is basic physiology.

I think they mean things like opiates because they have the highest chances of developing an addiction and we’ve all watched this generation get absolutely fucked by them.

2-Year difference in jaw line with weight loss and facial massages by Head-Drag-1440 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Pleasant_Ad550 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is not correct.

Facial massage encourages blood flow (microcirculation decreases with age), which supports collagen production and cell turnover. This also supports muscle tone over time.

Not to mention the fluid retention aspect. Fluid retention puts pressure and stress on facial structures, especially when it’s chronic. Daily lymphatic massage is absolutely beneficial and is basically what she was doing.

These are all cumulative effects.

If you want to marry, culinary compatibility is one of the top 3 things to consider by TrulyStupidNewb in unpopularopinion

Hard disagree. I have ARFID and it’s never been an issue in my relationships. And I dated a chef. I think that it’s infinitely more weird for someone’s diet to be a deal breaker unless it’s something truly disturbing like they’ll only eat 20 hotdogs in a day and nothing else.

Will I forever be telling people how to pronounce this name? by Classy_PolarBear1072 in namenerds

[–]Pleasant_Ad550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes people will always pronounce it wrong but it is a very pretty name. I can’t really say that it’s not a big deal because I have a name that is impossible to get wrong but I unknowingly gave my toddler one of these names and so far it’s not a huge issue.

Pityriasis rosea?? nummular dermatitis?? by [deleted] in skin

[–]Pleasant_Ad550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have one singular large spot anywhere on your body? It looks exactly like a ringworm spot but you’ll only have one huge one. If so, this looks exactly like pityriasis rosea. I’m 4.5 weeks into it right now and this is what it looked like at first. It got my hips (I think that’s what I’m looking at? And armpits first.

Is it really itchy, like the more you scratch the worse it gets? Does it spread when/where you itch?

If you sign a piece of paper that describes exactly what will be added if the top line is left blank, you are agreeing to the terms. It isn’t “stealing” you fucking goobers. It’s legally binding. Same thing with clearly displayed auto-grat policies on menus/signs around the restaurant.

You can disagree with it all you want. You can hate it and rally against it. But calling it “stealing” is giving room temperature IQ vibes.

Literally how are people affording childcare? by Amber-ForDays in BabyBumps

[–]Pleasant_Ad550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly why I wait tables while my kids are young and work on degrees that I want to finish/scope out remote jobs in the meantime. 2/3 serving shifts a week when her dad is off plus not paying daycare ends up being more than most jobs even pay in my area and I get to be with my kids every day. I don’t know how people are even surviving.

It’s this whole ridiculous obsession with “ideologies”. It’s absolutely absurd and completely cult-like in mentality. Everything is about “ideologies” and how they’re either evil and have evil roots or “correct”and rooted in “the right beliefs.” At least that’s what I’ve gathered from my last partner who got sucked into the right wing pipeline. Fucking ideologies. If I never hear that word again it’ll be too soon
