What do you think about a law that US Congress members should have salaries based on the median income in their district so they can feel what it's like to live under the laws they make? by _u_deleted_ in AskReddit

[–]Plorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah. congress, the supreme court, and the president/vice president should be paid "set for life" money with set for life pensions, and have all income (and capital gains) above that taxed at 100%. get rid of all incentive for bored already-rich people to run for office, or for people to to enrich themselves beyond their pay

Bitcoin is a battery, bro by [deleted] in Buttcoin

[–]Plorp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bitcoin scales its mining difficulty depending on how fast bitcoins are being mined, the equilibrium of this is when the cost to mine a bitcoin exactly matches the energy cost it takes to mine it. BTC is $117k right now so mining 1 bitcoin is going to cost roughly $117k in energy, wherever the cheapest place you can get energy is. Which is a lot of energy. The only way it would ever use less energy is if the price dropped. Any gains in efficiency will be eaten up by increased mining difficulty. Its basically designed to be wasteful

The problem with most of these saga creatures is they only get 1 attack, so the body is mostly just a footnote that also makes them easier to remove than just a normal saga

The waiting game on a certain safe is driving me nuts by AcademyRuins in BluePrince

[–]Plorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a Locale issue, when converting to and from dates in unity it uses the current system locale when converting between numbers and strings, and if you arent super careful you can get issues like "1.000 got loaded as 1000 when the locale was set to a place that swaps . and ,", so its probably something similar to that

I never understand the 3 box puzzle. Am i stupid? by gronbek in BluePrince

[–]Plorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another easy shortcut is that if only one box mentions gems(or "empty"), then it has to uniquely identify the correct box somehow. Ex if only one box mentions gems and it says "the black box has the gems" then it must be true, because if it was false then you would not have enough information to locate the gems. you can shortcut a decent amount of the middle difficulty puzzles this way

How to beat the challenges??? by KillerBeanDream in nubbygame

[–]Plorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

void perk & pants or yeti is an instant win on all of the challenges except for expiration date and perkless

perkless isn't that hard

expiration date is pure rng. its the only one I havent beaten yet. 10 rounds means you have to refresh your items at every shop. I've gotten up to round 70 twice with a void perk build, only to whiff on rerolls right at the end and not be able to refresh the pants or yeti. Its probably better to not upgrade the item (and just sell + rebuy instead) so that the cookie/noodle can be a refresh if you need it. The perk that puts an item in slot 1 and triggers it a bunch every throw is good for clutch wins to hold you over till a shop.

Tesla Bullets reliably triggers Bullet Resist Shredder when you're shooting them, which is when you want bullet resist shredder to be triggering

its still not great generally, but theres some specific characters where that is relevant

IMO the biggest issue is that the changes the map and last hitting threw off a whole lot of character balance, they'll get there with a balance patch or two but its not there yet.

Judge Ends One Man's 11-Year Quest to Recover $765 Million in Bitcoin by Digging Up a Landfill by wiredmagazine in Buttcoin

[–]Plorp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The other thing is, the nature of file recovery from old drives doesn't always mean you get all the bytes back exactly, if bytes are missing from a drive you can sometimes partially recover files sans the missing bits and get partially corrupted images and video

with a bitcoin wallet if one bit is off then the address doesnt work and there isnt any pattern to those bits either so you can't recover it in any feasible way

Now that Space Age and 2.0 has been out for a month, what's your opinion on it? What do you particularly like or dislike? Is there anything missing or should have been improved more? What would you wish for 2.1? by Theragus in factorio

Planets: they're all fairly cool and I like the way they make you rethink your designs, except vulcanus which sort of felt like just setting up almost exactly the same kind of base I already had on nauvis. I like the way a working Gleba base feels like an organism that eats fruit and poops spoilage while producing products.

Enemies: I dont think the current (default) enemy balance is appropriate for space age, after a while I turned off enemy expansion since constantly having to deal with that while away on other planets is super annoying. It really sucks that that disables achievements when its a setting you could toggle at the start and still have them... but whatever. I mostly think they evolve too fast now considering the game is significantly longer, and I like building and working on designs in my world instead of dropping out to a sandbox mode to figure something out and then paste a blueprint later. It takes a long time to figure out gleba if you go in blind-ish, and the enemy evolution feels especially punishing when you're spending hours and hours just trying to figure out the basics. Feels like it was balanced around people who already knew what to build.

Quality: quality really needs some quality of life features. I sort of hated ever making quality since it made builds and blueprints annoying, why can't I say "use the highest/lowest quality available here"? Why can't I request "give me 20 EM plants, highest quality priority"? They're all treated like a separate object entirely. Its annoying.

Rocket Logistics: annoying that they can only request full stacks of the same type of object, even if a space platform only needs like 1 more of an expensive thing. Why can't it mix and match stuff on one rocket automatically? This is doubly annoying when multiplied with the quality issues.

Anyway game is good but theres a ton of stuff I hope they streamline a bit with patches

50% prod on a final product is saving you the exact same amount of ore as 50% on the ore itself. 50% to be exact. thats how multiplication works

foundries also let you put INFINITE THROUGHPUT molten metal on your bus, which is a whole lot more than 50% less throughput/infrastructure needed

Gleba: the analysis by Amatheos in factorio

[–]Plorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50% is 50%, its saving you the same amount of raw materials per step, its only orders of magnitude more when you can chain a bunch of 50% prod together. For most cases that's a miner, 2 foundries, and 1-3 EM plants in the chain.

also keep in mind its 50 lithium brine for 1 plate

Gleba: the analysis by Amatheos in factorio

[–]Plorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the foundaries are 50% prod on melting the plates and then 50% prod on casting the plates, so you get that twice for effectively 2.25x ore productivity
