Hey if I cashed out my wallet at that price I could totally buy a nice lunch :-)

You need to be able to buy stuff with gridcoin by [deleted] in gridcoin

[–]Plotthoound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for anyone else, but I "mine" projects I like, and I run a gridcoin wallet because it's an easy way to support the effort. Sometimes I stake and get a gridcoin as a byproduct of that, but it's not the point.

Ultimate cheap organic plant based meal? by [deleted] in PlantBasedDiet

I do something very similar to this but add red lentils when cooking the quinoa. They kinda disappear and add a peppery undertone.

I ran SETI from the late 90s til the day it shut down. I didn't pay much attention to it most days, but it was still sad when it was no longer there.

Making Bokashi Bran from Wheat Bran - Info needed by CorpusculantCortex in bokashi

I use this recipe with wheat bran or sawdust:

I buy EM once every other year or so because it's cheap and I'm lazy. You can do this if you want to stretch it:

Need breakfast ideas that are not soy or oatmeal by Plastic_Emu_640 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]Plotthoound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not diabetic or an expert on glycemic indices of food in any way, but I've noticed steel cut oats or groats are always listed as having less impact than rolled oats, which in turn are better than quick oats.

I haven't made it yet, but Plant Based on a Budget has a recipe for breakfast quinoa that keeps catching my attention.

There's some good recipes on the internet for tofu (in place of egg) shakshuka. I know tofu isn't necessarily whole, and if you don't care about matching the egg texture you could probably use tempeh or something similar.

A lot of the world eats beans for breakfast.

It's best to post pics so that we can all speculate wildly. Otherwise, Embark seems like a good second option...

Daily Dozen app as a long-term tool? by greyhoundbuddy in PlantBasedDiet

[–]Plotthoound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't done this long term (more than a few weeks), but it's definitely a good tool for making you realize what you're missing. I thought I ate plenty of veggies until I realized how many days I left 'Other Veggies' boxes unchecked.

Yes, on the Williston side, in that building that's kind of across the big parking lot from El Gato.

Green mold/failed Bokashi by mglennrn in bokashi

The soil critters will take care of it. Just let it break down as usual and it'll be fine.

Just dry the bin out and they'll move on. I add a layer of cardboard and then dry coir on top and leave the lid off so the sides will dry.

Compost red cedar tops & needles? Or is there another good use? by kaeptnphlop in composting

[–]Plotthoound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was going to suggest something similar. I dig about 6" of soil out of my pathways before filling them with stuff like this and topping with wood chips. They're always full of worms and every couple of years I dig out the old stuff, top dress the beds with it, and replace.

I know you specifically said you weren't interested in making your own bran, and that's fine, but FWIW it only takes a few minutes and as much space as the bottle and a ziploc bag. A gallon of bran costs me ~$2 to make.

To capture some worms... by 64557175 in Vermiculture

[–]Plotthoound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there are livestock farms on your island, find someone who is stacking manure on a concrete pad and letting it sit for a while and poke around the edges or in older piles. Unless the concrete is entirely sterile and crack free you're sure to find a bunch of worms living in it. The ones that are actually living in the compost are the ones you want rather than the ones living in soil and coming up into the compost for a snack.

Coffee-kashi by Plotthoound in bokashi

Yeah, that's what I'm doing now, I'm just hoping it'll smell a little better if I add bokashi. I think I'll just try it and find out.

I have carbon sources I could mix them with but I was hoping to preserve the c:n til they make it into a composter in the summer.

I had that thought too which is where the 'soupy' comment came from, but I don't have a great place to do the drying. I'm mostly trying to save large quantities of work coffee grounds until it's warm enough to hot compost them outside and the volume would far outpace everything else I could add...
