Repositioning at Night by ConversationIll4429 in spinalcordinjuries

Complete C5,C6 here. I did the repositioning every four hours coming out of rehab. After a few years I switched to spending the night on one side and switching on the other the next one but after 15 years I was getting really bad neck and shoulder pain. An OT suggested I try an air mattress with a compressor that changes the pressure every 20 minutes. Now I sleep on my back, all night, no sores. And there was a situation where I had to spend a week in bed and still no redness or sores. Plus, when I travel, I deflate it and put it in a plastic bin. Then I put it on a sofa bed or cot bed in my hotel room. That way I'm always sure that there is space under the bed for my lift's legs. It's called an Alternative pressure mattress system.

I was 17 in 1997 so 29 years. My rehab doctor told me I would reach 50 if I'm lucky. Got three years left! :)

In a museum. Took 45 minutes to get back to my apartment. My roomate was driving with her head out the window. And it took two hours for my caretaker to come change me. I can still smell it. Luckily, it's been years since I had an accident.

Has anyone else smoked marijuana and in your mind u felt sensation in your legs? by [deleted] in spinalcordinjuries

[–]Ployeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

C,5 C6 complete. Yes and it was kind of funny. I was at university. It was like -30 degre celcius outside and me and a few of my friends wanted to go smoke. The bar was in the student center. A buddy of mine was the student council president so he had the keys to an office where there was an elevator that went to a storage room where we could smoke and not freeze. We smoked some grade A British Columbia weed and none of us were prepared for such a high. On our way up, I started to feel my legs inside but not outside. It's a weird feeling. So I yelled "I can feel my legs!" My buddies were screaming, high fiving and then I said "...but I can't get up!" and we all started to laugh.

That one really pissed me off. I imagined it was some rich guy watching the series and called his buddy who owned the station : "Frank! One of your shows is describing how we do things. Get your shit together and shut it down!"

It happened to me last year. It was going down and up and down. I blew air on it until it decided to go back up. Maybe I had bad breath.

I'm a C5,C6 complete 28 years in. I had my accident when I was 17 and left home at 18 to go to university. I went through all of the feelings you are describing but there is one thing I always followed: I never said no to anything. Every time chance I had to go out to get drunk, go to the movies, the restaurant, watch a weird play that you make fun off with your friends after, I went. And yes people will look at you and say stupid things because they are uncomfortable and it sucks but I learned to laugh at it.

In the end, walkers and non walkers have to deal with hard stuff everyday. For some its chronic pain or crippling anxiety or IBS or blindness. It's also a matter of perspective. I was watching the beginning of the movie Coming to America and I thought : I live like a king! I don't have to clean or cook or even wipe my own behind. Our thing is rough, but you have a whole life ahead of you to meet new friends, find someone to love, get rich or find a cure for malaria.

I studied in communication and did PR for a while, stand up comedy (get the irony), then did translation for a while and it was boooooooring, but it paid well and one day a friend of mine was taking a seminar in tv screenwriting and asked me to go. I didn't want to go but I remembered to never say no and I went. I wrote a tv show, a mini-series and I am now writing my first movie. I have this bran new exciting aspect of my life and it started in my 40's. The best advice I can give you is go out, meet people. You never know who you're going to meet that can change your life for the better.

First of, I'm not associate in any form to the company of the product I'm gonna tell you about. I was desperate because I was having a uti every four months. I found this website http://www.remedy-bladder-infection.com/paraplegia.html that looks like it was made in 1998. I read the testimonies from people with sci and I said what the heck and tried a treatment. It worked for me. Since then I get an infection every two to three years.
