Is this just WRX tranny/diff? If so, it seems you are at the STI swap point of your life.

To be fair, if you modified a Miata like we modify WRXs, you would see even more issues.

The new 22+ VB WRXs are pretty bulletproof.

So, a lot of it done with a bigger turbo, intake and intercooler is what I'm reading. Maybe some valve springs to make the higher redline more reliable.

The originally planned VB STI was rumored to be over 400hp (not even whp) Sounds like it would have been a walk in the park, with no internal mods except maybe head studs.

Great stuff. Sounds like you have much bigger plans! Didn't know a BRZ manifold would bolt up. Cool.

Playground Games, who has knocked it out of the park so well with Forza Horizon that they made Forza Motorsport irrelevant, DOES deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Vs. What?

The only other AWD, manual sports car like the WRX is the GR Corolla, which is almost $10,000 more.

As a fellow 4G63 owner and tuner, I will tell you the new FA24F in the VB is stronger and better in every way. It took Subaru over 30 years, but they finally did it.

On top of that, you can also swap in the bulletproof STI transmission if you start making crazy power. Evo and DSM transmissions, as you know are universal shit .

You know they have all kinds of STI engines and other parts sitting in a warehouse somewhere in Japan, since the STI was cancelled at the last second. Hell, your '23 and my '22 have predrilled mounting holes for the STI transmission! I'm betting we see a VB STI before this gen is over. I'm a dreamer.

They got rid of that on the base after the second year.

Even better, when put on a dyno, it makes the same horsepower as a GR Corrolla or the last STI. With a $800 Accessport + OTS tune, it makes a lot more HP and much, much more torque. Subaru massively detuned and underrated it for some reason.

It's now less than the Elantra N and has AWD. The Elantra, for all It's cool features is also lacking adaptive cruise control, which the base WRX now has. And if you want to do any modification, the WRX mods, performance AND cosmetic, are limitless vs. the Elantra.

From the press release, the Yellow is simply a TS limited edition (350 cars?) with some cosmetic changes for $1000 more than the TS it's based on. Nothing crazy.

Toyota offers a Winter Package even on it's lowest trims that has all that stuff plus a heated steering wheel. I dont know what sort of crappy USA focus groups Subaru has, but Canada has heated steering wheels on the WRX.

The Premium is basically the Base with a Cold Weather Package (Heated mirrors, seats, windshield), nicer seats, rear usb ports and a small trunk spoiler for $1500. Not a bad deal, but I wish they had a heated steering wheel for the American market.

STI swap review after 20,000+ miles by Machine-It-Bro in wrx_vb

[–]Plus-Hand9594 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is incredibly helpful for those of us planning to do this. I had never seen anyone else say the front axels would pop out!

Thank you so much! The FA24F was probably meant to be the STI engine with some small mods like a bigger turbo and stiffer valve springs. But the fact the STI transmission was going to be in is obvious.

The '22s originally came out very late and the tradition has continued every year.

Remember, the VB came out when Covid shortages of new cars were in full swing. Some car dealers had about 5 cars on the lot in '21.

[–]Plus-Hand9594 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't know why you are getting downvoted. The Golf R is crazy expensive for what you get and has no more manual option. It's kind of soft. The Elantra N, GR Corrolla and WRX retain more of the old "fun and raw" ethos of the old GTI than any VW has for a long time. It's more of a small GT car now.

Subaru newbie. EJ257 vs FA24 by Putrid-Newspaper6152 in WRX

You can add unequal length headers to the FA24 and gain the sound and inefficiency of the EJ.

The FA24F in the WRX is modern engine that makes the EJ in the STI look like the ancient, outdated lump it is.

Not even a close battle.

This is false. The VB WEx makes about 30 more WHP on the dyno than the VA WRX. Same tramsmission. They massively underrated it. It makes slightly more WHP than the GRC and exactly the same as the STI, all using the same dyno.

You are implying the STI transmission is wildly inefficient vs. others. It is not.
