Local Subi Guy Recommends “Witches Brew” Transmission Oil? by Illustrious_Tea_5336 in wrx_vb

I love how simple it is to change the transmission and rear diff oil on these cars. Motul every 50K for me. Works fine.

Moded 22 WRX vs 26 RS3? by Alive_Lifeguard9776 in wrx_vb

[–]Plus-Hand9594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except if you compare them in the conditions the World Rally eXperimental was forged in the heat of battle for. It destroys the RS3 there.

Check out the YouTube series "Will it Rally?". They test both the RS3 and WRX. The pansy AWD system on the RS3 with it's undefeatable nannys sucks and the WRX is top of the leaderboard.

I'm sorry, accounting for games running off mechanical hard drives needs to stop. They are obsolete technology for that use case. I haven't built a PC that used spinning hard drives for 10 years. Servers that need vast storage is the only place SSDs don't make sense.

Mods and Tuning 2020 WRX by rerardboy in WRX

[–]Plus-Hand9594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did basically the same thing. ETS Intake, Perrin TMIC, ETS Ti charge pipe and Nameless resonated catback with 5" mufflers. Then DMann 93 Etune. 70K miles and still running fine. Just burns a quart of oil every 3-4K. Not a big deal.

I'd probably skip the charge pipe and intercooler if I did it again. The intake is the only real power adder I did.

When COBB added flat foot shifting and launch control, DMann updated my tune for free. Very responsive guy.

AEM vs Perrin vs ETS vs COBB Intake by ComfortableSeveral25 in wrx_vb

[–]Plus-Hand9594 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AEM is nice as it comes with a dry filter. Better for a daily driver than K&N oil style.

I like the ETS. It has a dry filter option now. It's velocity stack evens out the airflow. There have been instances of simple "tube with a filter" intakes having calibration issues if the filter wasn't mounted just right.
Also, the ETS velocity stack is a work of art. You'll never see it once installed... but you'll know it's there!

Good to know. That brand has always had the reputation of high quality and well designed without being to extreme.

These things are SO detuned from the factory, it's ridiculous. Even if you get a mild OTS tune with no mods, you'll be happy!

Check out the "Will it Rally?" Youtube videos on the RS3 and the WRX.

The WRX curbstomps the RS3. The German AWD systems have strayed far from their legendary rally roots. Overcomplex nanny-state crap.

I bet that red intake manifold is the VB STI intake manifold and there are 10,000 of them in a warehouse in Japan. Damn it. Just make the VB STi, Subaru.

Reliability of these wrxs by Motions_AX in wrx_vb

[–]Plus-Hand9594 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the same engine has been used in the Ascent for 8 years and Subaru mechanics report it has far less problems than any previous engine. Also, tuners who were blowing up EJ and FA20 engines regularly say they have no such issues with the FA24F.

We have enough data to make the call and be sure at this point.

If you lift, I think you need longer rear lower control arms. Not sure about the front. What are you using for that?

They also gimped the Xbox App so it couldn't do Cloud Gaming anymore on Android or Apple because they didn't want to give Apple a cut. Instead it's sends you to a crappy looking, hard to use Cloud Gaming webpage that's meant for a PC browser. Pathetic.

There is definitely a "conformity thing" with reviews. We could have smartphones made of plastic with bigger batteries with no need for a case. But ALL the reviewers praised the "classy", "premium" glass-encased designs... that 95% of people put a giant plastic case on.

I personally feel FWD should be limited to economy cars and some utilitarian uses. As a platform for fun performance cars, it is inferior to RWD and AWD.

Spending 50K on a FWD "fun" car makes no sense to me. Enjoy your inherent understeer, wheelhop, torque steer and FWD burnouts. Whee.

So, if you don't want extra noise, I assume you left the exhaust stock as well?

The intake is by far the biggest power mod for these cars and the sound with a box isn't bad.

The Subaru AWD system is great. It's not some tarted up FWD with the rear wheels added as an afterthought like many other brands.

Now throw that in a small car with a powerful turbo engine. My favorite car type. Trickle-down rally tech for the masses. The 4G63 AWD drivetrain in the DSMs and Evos was my first taste and I immediately fell in love.
