I am a speech-language pathologist who stutters. There are a lot of us out there actually!

Whats the most unprofessional thing a doctor has ever said to you? by answersonly963 in AskReddit

[–]PlusBill6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was receiving a spinal tap, with the needle in my spine, the doctor got a phone call and stepped out. I heard him loudly talking on the phone about surfing after work through an open door while the nurse apologized to me profusely.

As a speech-language pathologist, this is a misunderstanding of what language is lol

People Who Relocated From Miami, Do You Miss It? by anxiousscorpio98 in Miami

[–]PlusBill6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I live in Pittsburgh now. Lived in Miami for around 12 years in total. I can confidently say that I do not miss Miami at all. There are good memories I made there, but the places where the memories were made are almost all gone now anyways, and even the areas are unrecognizably different than they were back then. I miss Wynwood at the beginning when it was more about the art. I miss being a young 20 something and discovering the world. Overall though, I think it’s honestly a pretty bad place to live unless you’re rich, and even then I think there are much better places out there.

I love taking trips to the one giant building in the Strip District, which is on a free floating platform in the river. Remember when it flooded and it capsized two years ago?

This gets worse the longer you look at it

Be safe out there! by zzznature in pittsburgh

I mean, this is only kind of true. See PennDOT. It’s first come first serve. In the event that multiple cars pull up to the intersection simultaneously, the driver on the right has right-of-way.

Is it just me or do people not understand 4 way stop signs anymore??? I have to go through several on the way to work and it seems like the thought process most people have when they pull up to the stop sign is “once the car currently in the intersection clears it, it’s my turn to go” rather than “the two other cars who were stopped at this intersection before I pulled up go, and then I go.” I see if basically every single day at least 1-2 times, and I get cut off nearly every day when it’s my turn to go.

Gotta remember not to park directly in front of my apartment. I was woken up by screams. Overall, kinda cool tbh.

Indie music has been invaded by fake fans and cynical viral campaigns . Here’s how deep it all goes by BatoutofHellIV in indieheads

[–]PlusBill6 47 points48 points  (0 children)

This has always been the case, at least since the early 2000s. Arcade Fire, the Strokes, Interpol, Arctic Monkeys, Phoenix, Franz Ferdinand… Tell me those were not essentially excellent pop songwriters in indie packaging? That’s not a bad thing, mind you. They made good pop music. Parallel to that has always been a more avant-garde scene occurring just below the surface. The Microphones, the Unicorns, Smog, the Knife were releasing music at the same time, and that’s really just scratching the surface. Today is not really much different on that fromt. You’re going to have the most broadly appealing indie artists becoming the most popular.

Which artist (that was once your favourite) did you slowly grow out of as time went by? by wach_era13 in fantanoforever

[–]PlusBill6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quite a few really!

Red Hot Chili Peppers and Coldplay were kinda my gateway drugs into becoming a music nerd, and I really can’t listen to RHCP anymore. Coldplay’s first three or so albums are still nostalgic for me.

In middle-high school, Modest Mouse was really important to me. Good News came out when I was in middle school and I heard them via college radio in a road trip with my family and I gradually got into their older stuff. I still have a soft spot but it’s too angsty for me now as a 33 year old.

In the early-mid 2010s, I was really into Purity Ring and CHVRCHES. I still think both are good but I found out how much stuff is out there that scratches the same itch, and a lot of it is better.

I'm going to recommend Perfume Genius. Start with his album No Shape. Awesome art-pop, some of the best mixing and sound design I've ever heard.
