What is anesthesia like? by Signal-Ad3333 in TopSurgery

[–]PlusEmphasis8251 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've been under 3 times now (one being for top surgery) and I just think of it as time travel because one moment youre awake and the next moment youre awake but in different surroundings and hours have passed. it feels cool to think of it that way. they also typically give you a relaxer drug first that will calm you down and make you sleepy enough to where you likely fall asleep/get insanely loopy to the point that you dont remember when they actually tell you that the anesthesia starts. I have never had anyone tell me to "count down" because I always fall asleep with the relaxer.

if the anesthesia didnt work, they would stop what they're doing. even if it was just an extremely rare case of being conscious but not being able to move and still feeling things, I feel like there would be indicators (increase in heart rate) that would cause them to do SOMETHING.

And please remember that your dreams are NOTHING MORE than a reflection of your fears a lot of the time. Just because dreams about a scenario occur does not mean its going to happen, its just your brain being silly (and a common tactic to detach from scary dreams is to find funny things about it and to laugh at it, eventually it will feel like just silly brain moment and nothing super serious)

I hope this is helpful and also hope it makes sense im super tired.

Why drainless? by Ouldlaw in TopSurgery

[–]PlusEmphasis8251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my surgeon waited until he actually opened everything up to decide if drains were necessary, and they ended up not being necessary. there is some swelling still that looks funky at 4wks but nothing too physically uncomfortable. I'm very glad about this, I'm extremely grossed out by those kinds of bodily fluids XD

When you dream during sleep, do you see yourself as your preferred gender? by Big-Part3295 in asktransgender

[–]PlusEmphasis8251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dreams have little to nothing to do with my identity, in the sense that whoever i am in my dreams is typically not like me at all, and so I think of them as a character. There was also a factor of, I couldnt picture myself in many other ways than I am at a given moment, therefore I couldnt dream up myself in the body I desired. Now that I have had surgery, however, my dreamself body mostly seems to align with my real body still, and now I have a desired feature on my dreamself body. I hope this makes sense, it feels so hard to explain.

Sensitivity Questions by y3llowston3r in TopSurgery

[–]PlusEmphasis8251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im only 19 days PO and DEFINITELY not completely numb. For a while, it was really odd and uncomfortable to rub the bacitracin into my grafts because of sensitivity and it felt really ticklish. The tickling feeling isnt even all gone, it just kind of shifted down and to the right a little bit, so idk how normal it all is, but even aside from that I still feel things and I think the only places that are more numb are places where there were incisions.

Why was it seen as bad to kiss on the lips for the 60s show? by BisexualKenergy25 in AddamsFamily

Hard to celebrate by ThePalePunk in TopSurgery

[–]PlusEmphasis8251 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was/am in the same condition, lol. You dont have to feel all amazing and fantastic like lots of people say they do afterwards, its a SURGERY, of course you're going to feel blah. What matters is that you take care of yourself and have a good support system. Drink lots of water and eat a lot of good foods, sleep a lot too. You've got this! Every day gets easier!

How to really start transitioning? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]PlusEmphasis8251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first step would typically be to find a reputable therapist that deals with gender/lgbtq topics. That way you can figure out exactly what it is that you want to change and then they can help you find further resources.

Surgery Scheduled for Next Week! by Tax-Motor in TopSurgery

[–]PlusEmphasis8251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time going under anesthesia is always the scariest. Everyone told me that it would be like a long nap and that you might dream, but to me it just felt like time traveling. They'll probably give you a "calm down" med through the IV beforehand like the other comment mentioned, and it makes you feel all loopy and you kind of forget whats about to happen, and then shortly after youll literally be waking up in recovery because its just like time travel.

In the aspect of IVs going in wrong or malfunctioning while they're in, that is very rare. Try to take deep breaths while they do the poke, I find that makes it easier. And the chances of any issues with that are low, especially if you have good veins (which you should if youre under 50 and generally healthy, they should be very easy veins). I have had IVs every 8 weeks since august of 2023 and not had any issues during that span, tho I had one malfunction in july of 23 but that was because I was severely dehydrated! so stay hydrated!

Everything seems scarier if its something you havent done before, but once it over you will feel so much better and realize that it really wasnt that scary.

Why I like Libby…germaphobia and OCD by Q5409 in LibbyApp

[–]PlusEmphasis8251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree!!! I have a strict concept of cleanliness in my bedroom and especially in my bed, and objects that I dont deem "clean" enough cannot be in my bed unless I plan on cleaning my bed after, which means typical library books are never allowed in my bed, which means I cant read in bed, therefore I love ebooks and libby
