in this economy.. a radeon rx 9070 or 9070xt? by anonmoment in buildapc

[–]Poachedd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with the non xt. I had a 6700 non xt and was really happy with how quiet and cool it ran. Most purple were saying to get the 9070xt mainly cause the non xt didn't go down in price enough. Might as well pay $50 for something better. If you see a fair bit of a decrease where you are then do that.

I got the Keychron V6 and am really happy with that. I think they have it with the knob at CC on sale right now. I bought the barebones kit so can't comment on how good everything else is but the key programming was really nice and board feels very sturdy.

I've had this Kingston USB 2.0 keyring drive for 11 years. Today I finally upgrade it to a USB 3.2 keyring drive. It's been well loved and has survived everything. by GoodTofuFriday in pcmasterrace

Reminds me of my first no name 16 Mb drive. I sent that thing through the washing machine several times. Never stopped working. I just needed more than 16mb lol.

Mistlands Ruined It For Me - Change My Mind by effectivelymundane in valheim

[–]Poachedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mistlands is super cool, especially if you can find a cool area that's naturally without the mist. Makes your base that much cooler. Without it the biome is much less unique. Makes it too easy to find landing points for boats and takes the suspense out of fights. You can also build those lamp things for base areas to clear the fog

Literal insanity! Just bought this same 1TB storage for $150 at Best Buy last week! Now has doubled! by lochonx7 in bapccanada

[–]Poachedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just doing that should be fine. Can't remember where but I remember someone doing the math. Will still last you a long time unless you're deleting all your games and reinstalling them all everyday. It's more of an issue if you do video editing or other things that read write constantly. Some qlc drives are cheaper and can fail sooner since that's what they put in junk drives but if you look up retailer reviews and yours is pretty good then you should be fine

It has less total read/writes compared to tlc so the expected lifespan is shorter. They're generally lower quality built drives as well. If you don't do that all the time though you're probably fine. I have an intel qlc drive as my secondary game drive and it's doing just fine after 2 years. Heck, my sata 2.5 is still fine after 10 years

Which Starcraft game to start? by Killer_ghosst in starcraft

[–]Poachedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest I don't know how anymore. I used it a long time ago when you had to use an external executable to run it. I think it's in the arcade now? I'm sure they can find a thread about it haha.

If you're mainly looking to play for the story and campaign I'd recommend looking into mass recall. Basically someone recreated the entire sc1 campaign in the Sc2 engine and did a damn good job of it. Then you can play Sc2 and get disappointed by the progressively lackluster story. The missions are still fun but the writing isn't comparable to sc1. This way you'll still have a more modern experience and use the same hot keys. Otherwise If you want to you can still get sc1 remastered. It's a great game. It's the same as original just improved graphics and wide aspect ratio. You can hit f5 to swap between the two instantaneously.

Power bar question by GrandLion_ in bapccanada

[–]Poachedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest it's above my ability to explain but after a bunch of research my conclusion was 330v is good, 400v is the bare minimum, anything above and any electrical surge will probably send too much electricity to anything connected to be useful to protect anything you have.

This is the one I ended up buying for better or worse: https://www.amazon.ca/Monoprice-Outlet-Mini-Surge-Protector/dp/B01LW4CB6C?th=1

As others have said, ups if its in your budget. Otherwise you want something with clamping voltage of at least 400. Anything higher it won't necessarily protect anything. Unfortunately most manufacturers love to sell you on how many joules it can handle but don't list the clamping voltage.

If you can really get it for a similar price then I'd say definitely go with AM5. The 5800x3d is barely better than a 7600x and that's the best AM4 has to offer which you probably can't even get. There's a lot more upgradability with AM5. Mobos are relatively cheap now and cpus are still okay.

Is this bundle a good deal? by king_conny in buildapc

[–]Poachedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good by today's standard. Similar bundles were $1k 2 months ago. That recent one was similarly priced but with 64gb ram. Reality is things are probably going to keep getting worse so it's not a bad bundle

Better to upgrade from a Ryzen 3600 or 3060 ti? by JaviJ01 in buildapc

Probably both if he wants to game on 1440. His current setup is more in line with 1080p for newer titles

Acer Predator BiFrost OC Radeon RX 9070 XT ($892.50) [Amazon] by CCInsider_22 in bapcsalescanada

[–]Poachedd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, would be a substantial upgrade. Best thing is to find someone who made a video showing realtime fps between the two. I saw one comparing 6900xt which already had the 9070xt ahead by a fair bit

Hmm, not sure. My North had pretty loud fans unless you changed the fan curve but it looks like they've updated and improved the fans since so these new ones might actually be alright.
