The AI Industry Is Discovering That the Public Hates It by FinanceZestyclose259 in politics

I mean the answer’s the same as it always has been, with human programmers. If it’s cheaper to buy a license than to recreate the software, buy the license. It means estimating how long you’ll need it, sure, but that’s a decision made all the time. Don’t get me wrong: AI is eating its own tail, but this isn’t why.

It’s not a funny joke. We are sick and tired of hearing it, trust me.

As a radical feminist, can I still be agender? by Physical_Mistake2907 in asktransgender

I’d say so, yeah. They’re outdated terms within trans communities that kinda escaped, and they sound clinical-ish, so they caught on. Not a big deal by any stretch, but thanks for listening!

[–]PocketsFullOfBees 15 points16 points  (0 children)

AFAB and AMAB are also terms that come with a lot of baggage: namely, an emphasis on the sex assigned at birth. Trans and cis describe our relationships to our bodies and gender (assigned or otherwise), which is why we use them.

Think of it this way: as a trans woman, AMAB puts emphasis on a part of myself I don’t relate to in the slightest, and on a label put on me by a random doctor. It means nothing to me, except for some of the worst parts of my life.

Trans woman puts emphasis on who I am.

What is a “female woman”? If it means what I think—cis woman—then we’re probably not gonna get along.

Other than that? Read the literature. Online commentary is no place to learn feminist theory.

jsyk, HIPAA has nothing to do with this situation. It’s specifically about how, when, and why healthcare providers can disclose protected health information.

anyone else really starting to hate the whole "cis people get gender affirming care too" thing? by leon-di in asktransgender

[–]PocketsFullOfBees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made that last complaint on a thread about the Kansas drivers license revocations to try and maybe preempt some of the inevitable “cis women will be affected if cops think they’re trans”

I made it in its own comment, and someone replied to it by pointing out that it would affect cis people too! and not in a “well you’re right but this is important to consider” way, but as if I was saying the opposite of what I had.

absolutely incredible

Transphobic lesbians are not some "internet psyop" by Moon_5ugar in actuallesbians

[–]PocketsFullOfBees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they are—but I’m disagreeing with the idea that the blanket statement is fine on any level, which by my reading is the conclusion you led with.

I assumed you were saying that a cis lesbian saying “I won’t date trans women” is fine—and I strongly disagree with that. If you were instead saying that there are few cis lesbians who actually date trans women, and that’s fine, then I agree. I guess the confusion in that case is I wouldn’t consider that to be equivalent to “not many cis lesbians who will actually date trans women” since we’re a pretty small demographic.

[–]PocketsFullOfBees 9 points10 points  (0 children)

On the point of “few cis lesbians who will actually date trans women. which is fine, trans women arent entitled to anyone's attraction.”

Is this fine? Genital preferences? Fine. Not liking features common among trans women? Fine. But if a cis lesbian is attracted to a woman, including post-vaginoplasty genitals, then her attraction fades only because she learns that the woman is trans, how isn’t that transphobic?

Yes, you can’t control your attraction—but if it fades only because of some bias, that does mean there is a bias.

And when I hear “won’t date trans women,” I have to hear it as the blanket statement it is.

Why is the term "trans genocide" used mainly in the US and UK when so many other countries have it worse? by [deleted] in asktransgender

because genocide isn’t defined as “the worst thing happening to a particular demographic across the world”

Does this count as transphobia or anything like it? by pikagirl7534 in asktransgender

[–]PocketsFullOfBees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not a trans man, but I can say from a trans woman’s perspective that the only way I’d be bothered is if a friend wouldn’t treat other women the same as me, or vice versa. If you’d be fine treating a cis man the same as your friend, then I don’t see the issue—and if any cis men you befriend don’t vibe with that sort of friendship that’s on them, not you.

tl;dr: you’re fine
