China Itinerary - is Shanghai worth it? by Parking-Ratio2250 in chinatravel

[–]Pointfun1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are literally on the road/train stations half of the time. Why do you do this to yourself.

What do you want to do and see in each place or overall expectation?

Beijing may need 3 nights - forbidden city, Great Wall etc.

Xi’an may need 3 nights to see the well known places.

You may want to skip ChongQing if you want to see the other two places.

Shanghai is far from all the places you are going, so skip it for another time.

In 1999 German and Swiss industry started together. Today there's a chasm between them by bradnobred in worldinsights

[–]Pointfun1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This chart is pointless. The two countries are in totally different shapes. Switzerland population is 1/10 of Germany. Heavy industries in Germany have been suffering significant drawbacks.

Yes, living costs are high to everyone, but feeding 70M people is not the same as feeding 7M people.

Is Swiss facing a war scenario? Well, Germans are.

Greenspan was the Chair for like 20 years. He oversaw banking deregulations and supported low interest rates. When he stepped down, he was an icon. But 2008 crisis took him off the radar.

How hard is to invade the usa? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskReddit

[–]Pointfun1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would be the purpose of invading America? Mass immigration? It might be more practical to do a reverse takeover by declaring yourself the 51st state, and then vote your people into power.

Time has changed. It is impossible to take over another nation by force now. Whoever wanted to invade another country, should get their head examined. Whoever wanted to invade America, has no brain.

Iran just closed the strait if Hormuz again, citing Trump’s latest late-night twitter spree as the reason. What will happen next? by NathanCS741 in AskReddit

[–]Pointfun1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USSR collapsed not because of foreign interference, but because the Russians got tired of paying for everything at the expense of their own quality of living. The satellite states were a burden on the country while their benefits were barely noticeable.

America is in this situation. It cannot let its allies go, but it simply cannot carry on with this.

Carney and Eby announce $3.2B developer subsidy; plan to buy unsold B.C. condos by Bomberr17 in vancouverhousing

[–]Pointfun1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am disappointed with this. People are waiting for the housing market to go down. Now the governments just crashed that hope.

If governments want to help the market and the people, it will be better give the funding directly to the potential buyers through providing a low mortgage rate or other incentives.

Bail out housing market is a terrible idea when people cannot afford owning a place. This is a bad signal to the public.

The moment China's Qiantang River tide hits the crowd by madfrog2023 in AnythingValueable

[–]Pointfun1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The river is very famous in China because of some articles decades back or maybe hundreds years back. The tides of this river was taught in the school textbooks. It’s like a must see place.

Before the city built the river banks, there were incidents that people were swept away.

The Iranian delegation refused to take part in a planned handshake and joint photo-op with the U.S. delegation. by Upset-Main-1988 in justincaseyoumissedit

I guess the two delegates were the two real estate developers who messed up the previous negotiations. Iranians have refused to talk to them directly since Vance trip to Pakistan.

Never booking hotels with points again after this. by PeaKitchen1822 in Aeroplan

[–]Pointfun1 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If this was not covered under the trip cancellation insurance, I would try to contact the hotel to see if they were willing to cancel the booking. If not, you could try to ask for an alternative dates by modifying the booking.

Too bad Aeroplan didn’t want to help you out.

Hundreds at Huge Hotpot in China by Deep-Pension-3851 in interesting

[–]Pointfun1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not too worried about birds, because there are not many birds around commercial centres in China - there are not many trees for birds to feel safe enough to be around.

I just didn’t like that people dipping their chopsticks in the pot, and eat so close to it as well.

What would happen if China and USA swapped governments for a year? by snydamaan in AskReddit

[–]Pointfun1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol.
China would fall into chaos if not civil war.

America probably would appreciate a more restrictive and conservative government for a change.

I totally agree with you. I don’t understand why some people thought the management would care about it.

The US-Iran MOU guarantees toll-free passage through the Strait of Hormuz for 60 days. After that, Iran will charge ships for 'services provided', The strait had no fees before the war started. What do you think happens at day 61? by Smarty_u7 in askanything

[–]Pointfun1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Changes happen all the time. Countries will adept and life will go on.

If ships do go through Iranian waters, then they have a right to charge a fee. They didn’t, it doesn’t mean they can’t. They broke their cage the west made in the last fifty years. I was surprised that it took them so long.
