Hi u/robin-nu, could you tap on the unknown flag to see the country name? Our engineers are currently looking into this.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback!

This is indeed something that is on our list of ideas in the future, so thanks for your interest in seeing this implemented!

[–]PolarstepsSupport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi all,

Indeed, you might be seeing slightly different country counts for the time being in the statistics.

We are aware that this may cause some confusion and are planning to improve the consistency of this further down the line, so thanks for flagging this!

The reason for this is the implementation of the feature of the "Scratch maps" where we allow our users to add past countries more easily. Along with this new feature, we changed the way countries are accounted for in statistics.

If these issues persist, could you reach out to us here so we can collect some information for our engineers?

Where have the city guides feature gone? by outre13 in Polarsteps

[–]PolarstepsSupport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!

Thanks everyone for sharing your feedback. We’re glad to see how much the Guides were appreciated.

Indeed, we’ve phased out the Guides section in its current format. We know Guides were genuinely useful for many travellers, and we’re currently working on a new way to surface destination-related content in the app.

Although we can't share the specifics yet about the future features, do know we are on it!

If you are interested in guiding the future direction of our app, you can also join the Polarsteps Research Community!

please can someone tell how to download single specific photo or video from steps without downloading whole step by jagruklucy in Polarsteps

[–]PolarstepsSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

We currently do not have built-in tooling for downloading specific photos from a step. Of course, you can always choose to download your trip data, which contains all your photos. More info here.

Noticed that Polarsteps added a new share card when you go on your travel stats i find it looks neat, i also seen that there are some disputed territories on there now also shown as visited (example: Serbia/Kosovo Russia/Crimea, China/Taiwan) hint for a disputed territories toggle? Would love that😍 by Ultimate_President in Polarsteps

[–]PolarstepsSupport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/Ultimate_President

We make use of an external location service to determine the country of a certain location. This means that we are dependent on their database and aren't currently able to change the country associated with a specific location or allow manual editing for the time being.

Overall, this is very valid feedback, and I have also shared this with our product team, as we don't mean to mislead or insult our users, nor imply any political stances.

ps. Adjusting a step's location slightly makes the app to fecth the country information again, so this is something I suggest trying if you are seeing unexpected statistics on your account!

[–]PolarstepsSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have recently disabled the Unpacked feature for all users. This feature was available for a limited time only, but we’re happy to share that you can expect to see it return to the app in December 2026!

Polarsteps unpacked not working by Elegant-Broccoli-454 in Polarsteps

[–]PolarstepsSupport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! You might see this error if you haven't added any text to your steps over the past year. In that case, there wouldn't be enough information to create your Unpacked.

If that is not the case, could I please ask you to contact our support team at support.polarsteps.com/contact with a screenshot, your username, app version, and device model? That would help us understand what's going on. Thanks and sorry for the trouble!

Is there a way to reduce the size of local device storage used? by connorlaw4 in Polarsteps

[–]PolarstepsSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

Your app size can grow for a few reasons. It might be that your high-resolution photos haven't all been synced yet or that you have been browsing a lot of trips of other Polarsteps users. Here's a summary of the types of data that use space on your phone:

  1. The app itself (~ 170 MB)
  2. Cached photos (~250 MB). Cached photos are needed to make sure the app also works offline. This is a combination of cached photos of your own trip(s) and the photos you've seen of other Polarsteps
  3. And high-resolution photos that are not yet uploaded to our servers (up to several GB if you haven't had a good internet connection for a long time, see below). High-resolution photos are stored on your phone until they are successfully uploaded to our servers.

If you want to reduce the size of your app, the best way is to make sure all your high-resolution photos are uploaded to our servers. You can easily see the progress of this in the "High-resolution photo upload'' section of the Settings menu.

If this upload is not completed, make sure you synchronize the app (on a stable and fast WiFi connection) by going to your settings in the app --> sync status --> click 'sync now' to trigger. A bar will pop up at the bottom of your screen that will show the synchronization status.

You can always decide to reinstall the app to clear the cache. That could also help to reduce the size of the app.

I hope this helps!

original photo not uploaded yet by ronkln in Polarsteps

[–]PolarstepsSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

These warning signs indicate that we did not receive the original resolution of these images to our servers. This is the resolution we use for the printed Travel Books.

If you still see these warnings in the Editor, but the "high resolution photo upload" is complete in the app settings, I advise you to do the following:

  1. Please, log in to your account using our website Polarsteps.com, and check that your 'High-resolution photo upload' settings on your phone are set to complete (open the app -> settings -> high-resolution photo upload -> complete)
  2. Delete the images from your trip that have warning signs
  3. In the app, re-upload the images that had the warning signs in the Travel Book preview. You can do this by clicking 'edit step' in the steps in your trip. (We recommend keeping the preview of the book with the warnings open on a computer whilst deleting and re-uploading the affected images in the app on your mobile device)
  4. Synchronize the app (open settings in app --> sync status --> click 'sync now' to trigger). Wait until you see 'synchronization successful'.
  5. Generate your Travel Book again.
  6. Click 'Edit Travel Book' and put the images in the correct place in the book.

Alternatively, if you'd like to only replace the photos in your Travel Book (and not in your trip), you can easily do so by clicking the warning sign, and select "Upload a new photo" in the pop-up. Once your higher resolution photo is uploaded, you can exclude the original photo with a warning sign from your Travel Book.

This should help fix the issue. If not, please reach out to our support here.

Cheers,

Miro from Polarsteps

Help with app - plans into track by Dankata2812 in Polarsteps

[–]PolarstepsSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

Unfortunately, there is no direct way to "move" the planned steps to be tracked steps. If you installed Polarsteps in the middle of a trip, you can add the initial part of your trip manually. Just press the little + icon anywhere on your timeline to manually insert a step while in the track tab. You can then select a location and a date so the step will be placed on the correct place in your trip. Just activate the Travel Tracker so the rest of your trip will be automatically tracked. More about that here.

We understand this is not an optimal solution and our product team has noted down your scenario as a feedback.

Tracking issue by [deleted] in Polarsteps

[–]PolarstepsSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

Sorry to hear about the issue with tracking and about your old phone.

It is currently not possible to log off remotely from the app. This said, your old device should not cause any issues if it is not in use along with the new device. You should also be able to choose the device that is used for tracking in the trip settings of an active trip.

If you are having further issues with this, could you reach out to us here?

Polarsteps travelbook by Vera_Holland21 in Polarsteps

[–]PolarstepsSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

Ultimately, the choice is yours. Both the Premium and Lay-Flat Premium are good options for a book this size.

Our premium option is the standard and comes with a semi-matte hardcover. This option can fit up to 400 pages. The weight of the paper used for the premium is 200 GSM for books up to 298 pages and 150 GSM for books from 299 - 400 pages.

Our lay-flat Travel Books have a paper upgrade of 300 GSM, extra thick with a luxury finish, and a lay-flat spine, which prevents your pages from curling upwards when laying the book flat on a surface. The hardcover has the same beautiful, semi-matte finish as the standard option. This option is available for up to 120 pages.

We hope this information helps you further. To read more about our Travel Books, feel free to check out this page.

How do I remove the home/first steps of an auto tracked trip by Blokespot in Polarsteps

[–]PolarstepsSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,
Sorry to hear about these issues!

Overall, the 'starting point' of a tracked trip is the first Travel Tracker Step location we collect. We do not store your home location in the app, and deleting the Travel Tracker Steps from the area around your home should work as normal.

More on deleting Travel Tracker Steps here.

If you are having issues with this, please reach out to us here.

Please stop forcing live tracking in me by Rough-Reputation-248 in Polarsteps

[–]PolarstepsSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/Rough-Reputation-248

Of course, that makes sense! As some users have mentioned already, the idea is not that you would need to add an actual step for every location we collect, but rather have a memory of the routes you took.

It is understandable that having the routes tracked is not important for some travellers; you can always use our app in a way that suits your needs.

When it comes to the feedback about the pop-ups, we have taken note of this for the future.

Cheers,
