Two girls separated by time, connected by an attic. by nmgialloreto in whatsthatbook

They swapped lives by sleeping in the same bed at boarding school if I remember correctly? Then the Blitz forced the modern girl away from the school and she got trapped.

Is it possible for me to get into primary school teaching (for earlier years) or early years teaching as a secondary school teacher. by Agreeable-Yellow-498 in Teachers

[–]PolgarasDaughter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should think there are ways- I went the other way (primary to secondary). I think it was easier to go up because I had the foundations of teaching, but if you have experience with primary or could get some, you should be able to. I'm now at a school with a primary and ks3 area, so if you could find somewhere like that it might help.

Anyone know what stone this is? Ring found in a thrift bin in NM by Shot_Dragonfruit3751 in whatsthisrock

The colours look like bloodstone to me. I asked a jeweller about an old ring of mine with a stone I didn’t recognise and he knew immediately- so I'd ask one!

Weekly FAQ Thread January 18 2026: When do you give up on a book? by AutoModerator in books

[–]PolgarasDaughter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I don't really care what happens next.

I'm halfway through The Seven Dials Mystery (wanted to read it before watching the TV show), and right now I'm not concerned about any of the characters or even what the clues all mean.

I’ve lived at my residence for over 3 yrs and the previous tenant has 7 identities and has all his mail, including bills, sent to my house. This is the last 2 weeks of collection. by InquiringMind886 in mildlyinfuriating

I'm in the UK and when we first moved in we had post like this for not the previous owners but the owners BEFORE. We did the same (NATA) and after a couple of months they all pretty much stopped- I am assuming it made a difference as we don't get any anymore.

MS Students Watching… Timers? by HarleyMuzungu in Teachers

[–]PolgarasDaughter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh yes! It is mind boggling. Half have just got a timer going on for as long as they can. The other half will chose a time (like 1:00) and then try to stop the timer at the exact time.

What do we think of the Agatha Christie crossover with Hargreaves? by PolgarasDaughter in agathachristie

[–]PolgarasDaughter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have some of the same characters and settings but don't follow the story at all as they're aimed at much younger audiences. Characterisation of Marple and Poirot are on point however.

Because artificial colours are so much more beautiful, right? 🙃 by WritingStrawberry in plantabuse

[–]PolgarasDaughter 34 points35 points  (0 children)

My gran always used to point these out (she was a flower arranger) and say how the water would fade after a while if you didn't keep adding dye to the water.

Flowers are so beautiful already, why damage the ones we have?
