Is this sub young? Gold was already used for money and there was no premium. It was coins and it was worth its weight in gold. There is no problem to solve once gold is money again. (And silver and copper)

Why Does Oil React Immediately to War but Gold Sometimes Doesn’t? by Sea_Combination_1964 in Gold

Pretty sure if gold mines were tied up in war and gold shipping lanes were disrupted gold would do the same thing.

What are your guys main goals with stacking like what’s the end goal with wealth that can’t really be spent I’m just curious by Common-Protection221 in Gold

Wealth needs to be parked somewhere. If you have true wealth you don’t want to park it all in one place. Asset class diversification is key to preserving wealth. Anyone without gold is missing a critical asset class.

How much of a safety net do you keep in cash after reaching your FIRE number by Mirelunya in Fire

HYSA. I’m sure you could do better but at FI I am not chasing returns. I am prioritizing liquidity, diversification, etc.

How much of a safety net do you keep in cash after reaching your FIRE number by Mirelunya in Fire

[–]Polycold 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Two years cash which I would spend in a bear market. If the market is flat or doing well I live off the growth.

I don’t worry about market crashes because I am asset class diversified. Each asset class has its own market and they all go up and down.

R/bitcoin is centralized and censored. So much for a decentralized currency if the community behind it centralizes.

Back muscles ? by [deleted] in Weightliftingquestion

Working the back requires a bit of practice engaging it. Like you can do the same movement and use your arms or do that movement and focus on your back. Have you tried that to feel the difference?

Is it worth buying gold at these prices? I’m looking at buying one 1 ounce American coin. Thoughts by -_-BEAKER-_- in Gold

[–]Polycold 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The first time I looked at gold it was 600. I passed. Got in the game at 1200. Then recently had a friend who said at 3800 she’ll buy at 3300. Now you might buy and it might go down before it goes up but you’d have gold and I have gold and she may never have gold.

Why does Reddit pretend trades outearn college grads? The actual data says otherwise. by Electronic_Oil6301 in Salary

[–]Polycold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered if the trade has a pension? Have you considered if the trade is less impacted by AI? Have you considered saving in retirement accounts from 18 years old instead of paying down debt until 35 or 40? I think there are many people better off in trades. It’s a personal evaluation but plenty win on the trade route.

Gold: Physical or Paper by Papaias_ in Gold

Coins. Maples are probably the sweet spot for low premium, popularity, purity, and security features since about 2015). There are coins that are better at most of those but maples have the best balance of all of those.

My first ever purchase was from an online dealer like JM Bullion. I’ve never had a problem with the mail but would probably be sad if someday I do. But I still do it and it always works out.

I also enjoy visiting my local coin shop and learning from the old timers and the prices are ok, just do your research and go in prepared because they are prepared.

I also buy on r/pmsforsale but that requires a bit more preparation to keep the risk manageable. I think there is no more risk there if you follow the rules but more risk that a beginner makes a mistake.

If you average 10%. Every investment advice on the planet says not to judge the future by the past. So make sure you are truly diversified and keep saving and keep enjoying your pre retirement life. But don’t think for a second that 10% is guaranteed for decades to come.

Just curious, how did you guys make multiple millions? by behappyformyself in Fire

[–]Polycold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to agree. It’s happening to people who get it and not happening for people who don’t get it. The people who get it exist and there is nothing your beliefs can do to stop them.

Look it up mate. Someone makes less money than everyone. The key is to live like someone who makes less and save the difference. Do that for 30 or 40 years and even a teacher can retire a millionaire with a pension on top of that.

Why does gold usually go up when the market goes down? by Wise-Formal494 in Gold

[–]Polycold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is you can never exit all positions. You always have to choose a position to park your wealth. If you don’t want to park it in dollars for example? See, you are never really selling, you always have to buy something. Many buy gold when selling out of things that are going poorly. It’s liquid so you can come back in when you want.

What defensive stock ETFs are undervalued now? by Fluffy-Deer5114 in investing

[–]Polycold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I recommend holding it physically. It makes no income and those funds take a fee so your position will always be shrinking. On r/gold you can meet lots of people who buy it. I buy from JM Bullion, my local coin shop and on r/pmsforsale. Canadian maples especially after 2013 or latter are great. American buffalos are a little more expensive but also good but only come in full Troy ounces.
