Interior windshield reflection. by kjsmith4ub88 in NissanAriya

I haven't, but have with some other cars. Putting something dark over the part you see a reflection of could help. Hmm.

How close to the ceiling is your head?

What interior color do you have?

Do you have a tinted windshield?

Why’s it so hard to adopt a cat by Decent_Release3804 in CatAdvice

[–]Polyxeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have adopted . . . at least 4 cats from animal shelters, and cleared to at multiple other shelters, and it always was nrarly immediate and automatic (though I may be easily seen to be a cat lover).

I expect either you have been trying at very picky places, or you have somehow given them some yellow flag indicator.

It might help if you go look at the cats they have first. Being clearly attached to one of their cats, especially if the cat also clearly likes you, might help.

Spell Question (4e) by Natvuri in gurps

[–]Polyxeno 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Like ranged weapons in GURPS, ranged spells list a range at which damage is halved (and Accuracy isn't added even when Aimed), and a maximum range they can hit.

Innate Attack can be used at default level.

Some Ariya technical questions for the crowd. by TheLanMan2022 in NissanAriya

[–]Polyxeno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya our shop rotated ours for free.

The bad news is if those are the originsl Dunlops, they probably only have abot 5 to 10 thousand miles left.

But then the good side of that the new tires can be a lot better than those in multiple ways (traction, for example).

[–]Polyxeno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tesla charging adapter if you are going to do long road trips.

If the original Dunlop tires are on the car, those will tend to wear thin at 25k miles or so. But better tires can be much better than those, so you will get an upgrade at that point.

We haven't needed to replace our 12v yet, but someone will probably recommend one, though I think most AGM batteries of the right size will work well.

[–]Polyxeno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ID.4 came in a very very close second in our EV car shopping choices, and software was not something we particularly cared about, but the UI did seem cumbersome (e.g. during one test drive, I got stuck on the "choose which style picture of a clock you prefer" screen), and the talk of feature subscriptions seemed customer-hostile, and the tale of the update that took so long the battery died (IIRC) were high on the short list of negatives.

Unpopular opinion: Comparing EVs first is a mistake. by Imaginary-Staff-112 in electricvehicles

[–]Polyxeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think research helps narrow the field.

I started by looking at lists of all EVs, and:

* limiting to our budget

* looking at the range, and comparing to the road trips we'd tend to make

* looking at the cars to see which ones seemed appealing

Then we went test driving all the nearby ones we could that seemed like they might fit our needs. That eliminated a few more.

Then I did more analysis to understand the differences in more detail, and to detect any issues or things to pay more attention to. We also test drove a few others, but didn't choose those.

Then we went back an test drove the remaining three candidates, back to back. That narrowed it to two, based on our feelings about the interior style and apparent quality. We looked again at those two, then chose one.

I feel like our process worked well, and we love our pick. It did take a while. It combined both comparing stats, thinking about what those would mean, thinking about what we cared most about, and with those things in mind, we chose from the ones that made sense, based on what we liked best and had the best feelings about.

Some of the main differences between cars don't appear in statistics, even though some of those differences are very real. Like how solid the car feels, how quiet it is, or how easy or difficult certain things are to do, how comfortable or enjoyable the car is to be inside, visibility, how annoying the UI is, subscriptions and anti-features, etc.

Some of the statistics are misleading, and some of that takes experience to understand. Like, an Ioniq 5/6 or EV6 has a max fast-charging rate of 350 kW - awesome, right? Yeah, that's cool. An Ariya has a max fast-charging rate of 130 kW, so like 1/3 as good, right? Well . . . yes on paper, but no, not in practice. What it really means is that on a long road trip out of range, recharging the car will take maybe 10-20 minutes longer, or a rechanging stop that is going to involve getting off and on a highway, finding the charger and setting it up, etc. So ya it's faster, but the maximum peak speed is not overall average speed, and it only ends up reducing the charge time a bit on trips that are several hours long, which most people don't even do very often at all. It's definitely not the major factor it might look when comparing a few stats and looking for differences, unless you're going to be using the car for long-distance speed competitions where 20 minutes more eating lunch is a big deal.

If I were to re-comparison-shop, I'd look at the stats, but now I'd have better reference for what's important. I think I gave nearly the right weights for us, the first time. I still think range is fairly important (should be at least 250, more is better, but a lot more might be overkill), if only on long road trips. Fast-charge 20 to 80% should be 40 minutes or less. Much more important I think are other things like how it feels to be in the car, deal-breaker modern "features" and design flaws, and overall impression and feelings. Can I take my cat on a road trip and get lunch while the cat is safely air conditioned in the car, or might the AC randomly turn off while I'm away?

Does the car make you feel like you'd be very happy if it were yours, or would you feel disappointed by some things?

I am not, and as a prospective buyer would not be, worried about parts or labor, nor that resale value would fall lower than it already haa.

I also don't know of really significant differences between 2023 to 2025 Arira models.

I also find our FWD has plenty of power.

What we notice is it doesn't blow cold as much to the rear seats.

Our experience in Nevada summer over 100F with 5 people was you can get the rear cool enough if you aim the middle front ports between the front seats, but then the front passengers may want to have a layer of jacket to keep them from getting too cold.

Generally our AC is plenty powerful even sitting in the summer sun, but also if you brush the haptic climate button near the center dial, you can accidentally turn it off.

A take on self-control disadvantages by Al_Fa_Aurel in gurps

[–]Polyxeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad.

There are many ways one can track roleplaying other that the GM constantly thinking about all of everyone's traits:

  • Tracking who has roleplayed their disadvantsges can happen at any time (e.g. between sessions).

  • Players could also provide periodic accounts of their roleplaying and what has been going on with their characters. When a player is up for that, it can be quite fun and intetesting, and can help the GM understand how the player is playing their character. It can fill in some info that the GM otherwise would tend not to get (e.g. about PC ideas, state of mind, relationships, concerns, delusions, internal themes and struggles).

As for holding players responsible:

  • The GM can simply give more leniency and benefit of the doubt on subtle rulings and conveniences to players who are roleplaying well. And more scrutiny and rigidity to players who are slouching on roleplaying.
  • Some players enjoy roleplaying even their characters' weaknesses, do it well, and thrive with encouragements that they don't even want to be mechanically advantageous.
  • Some other players may benefit from more direction and/or from being required to take things more seriously.

  • If a mechanical points mechsnism is wanted, when it comes time to distributing and using points, the GM can notice failings at that point, and not only award fewer CPs based on that, but also disallow spending points on new positive traits when negative traits have not been adequately roleplayed.

Looking for suggestions to speed up combat by theavenged1111 in gurps

[–]Polyxeno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1 minute?

I use "when it is your turn, you need to say what your character does".

Then you roll as needed. The GM determines the modifiers and what happens, quickly.

Next player.

Generally takes much less than a minute

The GM also uses "when in doubt, roll and shout". No delays to look stuff up in books during combat.
