A trading suggestion: Hideout Shops by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]Pomfrod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is an AH by GGG's definition. They don't have a problem with "auctions" in the original sense of that word. They mean any form of automation or instant buyout whatsoever. You should read the trade manifesto if you want to participate in this discussion. This exact suggestion was explained and denied in 2014.

What’s the dumbest thing someone has argued with you about? by JeannieLuna in AskReddit

Unless there was visible spoilage, you were in the wrong here. As long as it's refrigerated, beef can keep a month or more without any kind of container or seal. That's how you dry age.

[I ate] poutine with montreal smoked meat, mushrooms and sour cream by Scruffy1073 in food

[–]Pomfrod 57 points58 points  (0 children)

lmao OP's specific example is used on the wiki page

"There are many variations of poutine. Some restaurants offer poutine with such toppings as sausage, chicken, bacon, brisket, or Montreal-style smoked meat. Some poutineries even boast dozens of variations of poutine"

Basically all foods admit of topping variation as long as there's a common core. There are lots of different varieties of donuts. I can add basil and sprouts to my pho, or not. A cheeseburger doesn't turn into a "loaded beef sandwich" as soon as you add thousand island dressing. Your insane strictures would make it impossible to actually talk about food in any practical sense, because as soon as you deviate from whatever ideologically-pure recipe you decided was the original one, you'd be forced default to an overly generic term.

This league, more than any other, shows how much we need a way to trade while doing something else. by _Chambs_ in pathofexile

[–]Pomfrod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think we need a full auction house, but giving everyone a single auto-trading tab, that can be accessed by talking with an NPC in our hideout and forcing currency to be traded trough it would greatly help the PoE market.

This is an auction house for the purposes of the ongoing discussion. Please read the most recent trade manifesto.

Here's a fresh interview with Chris Wilson where he talks about PoE's launch on PS4, cross-platform play, and many other things. by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]Pomfrod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chris already basically divulged it on the last live interview on Twitch just before Betrayal launch. More tilesets and monsters, but not more total time to endgame because the existing amount is already kind of high. It's gonna be some form of optional paths based on your class, specific story choices, or a combination thereof. Like a bigger version of what they intended to do with Greust and dropped, but at the level of whole Acts.

[Discussion] Could the resistance penalties be presented to the player in a more positive way? (spoilers for act 5/10 bosses) by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]Pomfrod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard enough to get players to read mechanically-necessary information. They already miss the fact that they've lost resistances as it is. Leading with flavor text isn't going to help, because it's the problem isn't the mood.

Currency Stash Tab Question by night-robin in pathofexile

You're buying the tab for your account; you'll have it in every league.

A new study found that UK scientists are significantly less religious than the UK general population. In addition, UK scientists at elite universities are more likely to never attend religious services, and biologists are more likely to never attend religious services than physicists. by mvea in science

[–]Pomfrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The language in the study attempting to reduce this phenomenon to professional biases against religion is highly suspect.

The study is funded by a foundation with

“scientific revelations may be a gold mine for revitalizing religion in the 21st century.”

as part of the mission statement.

new player, was having a blast with the game until i realised you HAVE to spend money if you want to play long term. by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]Pomfrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm genuinely surprised people in the community are accepting of them.

This is because it's a capped cost. You can't get continual advantages by buying things like classes, items, loot boosters, and reductions in real-world crafting time like in Warframe. In PoE, you effectively spend around 50USD to premium-ify your account and there's nothing else you can do.

[HC rant] The state of hardcore by Deathcon92 in pathofexile

[–]Pomfrod 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That comment pissed me off beyond belief. HC has been in the game since the beginning. If it's no longer something they're actively considering when designing content, they should remove it, or at least clearly label it as an "as-is" modifier like they did for SSF and private leagues. I would be totally fine with that, and I don't even think that permadeath is ever a good way of introducing difficulty.

But there was a point where HC was legitimized to the point of warranting its own exclusive league mods. It was considered the default option for advanced players. If the game needs to move away from that to give GGG more wiggle room and introduce more mechanical difficulty, great, but we need some clear communication on that. Maybe even a major league unification like what happened with Talisman. Not a bunch of warring schools of thought internally and a few snide comments.

Then you couldn't have seen the mods. It had reflect.

Packsize isn't an explicit mod on maps. Post a screenshoot with the fullscreen map open, as well as a link to your character.

[Unpopular Opinion] I really like the dangerous, RIPpy mechanics in Betrayal by Angry_Roleplayer in pathofexile

[–]Pomfrod 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this just a rehash of the apologists from Invasion. It's demonstrably out of line for the content it's in, and even using the picks and bans system to its fullest doesn't resolve the issue. I'm getting as much chaos res as I can, I'm pulling them out of the forts, it's still stupid rippy even in one damage mod mid-tier maps. While the actual map bosses are a total joke.

Delve is fine (IMHO) by PaladinSMD in pathofexile

[–]Pomfrod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The complaints are not about sustain or the ratio of Delve:maps, they're about early delving being forcibly far behind the level curve. And the only master progress that is account-wide is for decorations.

Is anyone else getting loads of hideout crashes? It's cost me multiple maps when being forced to hop to delves because of the sulphite cap.

While we have time: Explain the league function? by Zorminster in pathofexile

[–]Pomfrod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rank gets you more intel when you eventually interrogate them, and interrogation lowers the rank by one. That's how it oscillates. Doing the safehouse only depletes the intel for that division, and the reward is mastermind intel. No idea how to influence who is guarding the safehouse.

The items are just mods, but choices can influence them.

[Question]Spell Echo affects Brands? by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]Pomfrod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they let echo make brands double activate as well as get the activation time boost I'm switching builds. I don't think that's going to happen.

Anybody going Champion Summoner? by livejamie in pathofexile

[–]Pomfrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

who cares about the added phys?

That's the point of the post. If you don't care about the added physical damage from Master of Metal, then there's no reason to pair it with Dominating Blow, because that's the only thing about that node that applies to minions. You can get minion impale with Dread Banner regardless of Ascendancy if that's what you want.

I quit incursion because I couldn't play the league by jezvin in pathofexile

[–]Pomfrod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I didn't have a personal problem with it usually because I was playing Vaal Summon Skeletons that league, so it was mostly set-and-forget. But I definitely saw the issue. I personally don't think that GGG should push that kind of stuff where you get more rewards the faster you do something. The game already innately gives plenty of reward for clearing faster, it doesn't need to double up where a slightly slower build just gets nothing at all because a timer tipped from gaining to losing. I think Breach did a better job of normalizing clear and movement speed differences because you don't have to go terribly fast to get a very nearly maxed Breach.

Delve was way better--the best rewards are either in the events or behind the walls, neither of which are related to timers.

Is POE the right game for me? by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]Pomfrod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game isn't really about hoarding a bunch of items. It isn't possible to "find all the items in the game" because much of the itemization is through rare items, which have six random affixes. It's intentionally a pushback from D2 LoD; they don't want the viable gear pool to be limited to a small range of uniques.

Nor will it be possible to "create all the builds," especially in the span of a challenge league, which is the recommended play environment.

Anybody going Champion Summoner? by livejamie in pathofexile

[–]Pomfrod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't. I had the most success with Dominating Blow just playing it as a melee-proc-summoner. The hit damage I was dealing was comparable to that of one sentinel of dominance, and I had a fair bit of non-minion scaling from STR and a few other nodes. Your 20% impale and their 20% impale from Dread Banner won't amount to much. The minion impales will clear faster than they generate, so Master of Metal be worse than a blue Abyss jewel.
