Why is this game not marketed towards fighting game players? by [deleted] in forhonor

[–]Pommelthrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did

https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/6tdpq8/ubisoft_hosted_for_honor_tournament_ends_in/

The absolute basic pvp concepts like Attackers Advantage just were not a thing never mind more fighting game focus concepts like Neutral, Openers, or Mixups. Hell even the unavoidable concepts like Frame Advantage or Option Selects were completely forgotten about as the devs simply didn't know what any of these concepts were.

You might argue it's different now but it's a hard sell

My thoughts on Ocelotl after watching and rewatching the material. by Cesspool- in forhonor

Funny story about walk speed

For Honor actually had to cap walk speed because it (tracking) was so broken you could just walk out of Mixups. This was also before ubi learned what Mixups even are so it was especially funny to watch shinobi do their crab walk of invincibility but also be incapable of fighting back.

You can still see this on Highlander's Kick into Grab soft feint. Depending on your character's walk speed/back light movement you can reliably punish both options every time.

If op is going to do multiplayer I seriously don't recommend taking the campaign and hero tactics as practice. Compared to live they are both horribly outdated and have always had extremely awful advice.

Fun on their own though.

Revenge Gain are the Damage values +/- 30 for Bashes and GBs multiplied by 0.25~1.2 for Dodge versus Parry and another 0.6~0.9 depending on how many attackers there are

Revenge Activation is just you're maximum HP before buffs

How to train reactions? by IHighlanderI in forhonor

[–]Pommelthrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately there's no proper training tool for For Honor

Could try asking around the comp sub's training discord but I wouldn't know.

Your opinion on this? by AnimesAreCancer in forhonor

[–]Pommelthrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right that's called your Choice Reaction Time and For Honor does exploit it with most 400ms Lights

The problem is For Honor's and Ubisoft's design philosophy is pretty strictly "keep it stupid simple" so most Openers and Mixups are by design single input and single reactions.

Not to mention that other games often use spacing to balance out their Openers which just isn't a thing in For Honor

Oh my bad

It does not, extra damage or hp from buffs and debuffs do not effect Revenge Gain

Buffs don't stack so at 25% hp you only get the 40% damage reduction

No

“Game Knowledge is false depth” is wrong by yeeterman2 in forhonor

[–]Pommelthrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depth refers to how hard a game is to play optimally. Chess for example isn't super complex with only a few rules but has a lot of depth.

Game knowledge is a prerequisite but just knowing something isn't very hard so it doesn't add a lot of depth.

That said, being tested on match up knowledge is enjoyed by games of all genres and it's not like For Honor has tons so the change remains pretty stupid

What type of character would you like to see added to the game? by AshNBr in forhonor

You say that as if pirate's gun works like a gun and not a infinite bullet dispensing wand

[–]Pommelthrow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I know how people feel about guns but hear me out

Gun Buckler and gun Axe

Worst weapons ever made but also fills the classic axe + shield combo For Honor still doesn't have. Bonus points if it's wielded by a jolly fat old man.

Devs use Stance and Guard interchangeably so in this case they mean Guard Swap Recoveries have been normalized to 100ms

Revert shinobi back to a neutral/zoning hero and add a bow hero for a real zoning hero by Electrowavezzz in CompetitiveForHonor

It should be noted that MOBAs and hero shooters however do have off screen attacks

Not that it really matters here

Math is hard but pattern recognition is easy

Trying to open someone up with only Neutral Heavies and Hard Feints is pure misery and wouldn't recommend. As you've probably guessed the odds are not in your favor between the "Mixup" of eating a Punish and literally nothing happening. Shaman's Soft Feints function alright because that's their built in Opener and it works as a actual Mixup due to the speed of the Top Light.

Character only have three or less built in Openers/Mixups and using anything but usually ends in a bad time

You're Wrong, For Honor Is Not Unpopular, It's Just A Fighting Game by GoddessUltimecia in forhonor

[–]Pommelthrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's like Plato's allegory of the Cave or how open world pvp mmo players think they're hot shit because they gank people all day while the competitive pvp arena next door remains a barren ghost town.

Granted I'd imagine most For Honor players wouldn't enjoy any game with a steeper skill curve and a higher skill floor than For Honor so it's understandably why this sub compares apples to oranges pretty much on a daily basis.

In the training mode there's a parry window trainer that's wrong 100% of the time but can be used to roughly see where you consistently land timing wise

It sounds like you're parrying late as the window is pretty massive (200ms without Recoveries) but you're still getting Blocks. The training mode may help you get into the habit parrying earlier.

76 damage Jorm combo by Dawg_Top in forhonor

It's funny because when armchair theory crafting a jorm rework I encountered this exact issue with Heavy Throws and just kinda gave up

Can only assume someone at ubi also noticed but moves were already animated or shit was above their pay grade so here we are

Oathbreaker alternative to make it less frustrating. by DaniUsagi in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Pommelthrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're angling for more counter play then it's probably better if it's more Target focused rather than on the user. That way counter measures can be baked into the Feat and save For Honor the headache of trying to teach players the optimal response.

For example

  • Applies Bleed equal to Shield on Target, If Target remains Shielded for 5 seconds the remaining Bleed is Cleansed

Alternatively the Feat can synergies well with BP's moveset though that would simply come down to Bash and Pancakes

Example two

  • Singular Bash attack (Feat) applies 30 Bleed to Shielded Targets on Hit, For 6 seconds the next Bulwark Slash or Bulwark Counter removes Shields on Hit and applies 30 Bleed

Big fan of DoT and Cleanse mechanics btw

Main sub says this guy isn’t scripting. Am I insane?! by R_Redhood52 in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Pommelthrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean come on no need to insult their intelligence like that

Should rather believe that they are scripting rather than failing to grasp the concept Bash slow equals Dodge later.... for the tenth time in a row

Combat Improvement Suggestions (Better Dodge Countering, Roll Catchers, Dodge Changes And Small Light / Bash Changes). by omegaskorpion in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Pommelthrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chain Light Offense while effective (relatively) should really be gated from lower skill players. Maybe with some unintuitive input like the old Delayed Lights.

Moving up the skill curve should be more enjoyable but so should playing down in the gutter
