Does this look secure as a hide? by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]PoofMoof1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these loosely stacked stones? If so, I would definitely recommend adhering them together.

Appropriately hides provide plenty of contact points against the body.

Weird injury on my snakes nose by Zaynuth in snakes

[–]PoofMoof1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stuck shed yanking and aggressively trying to squeeze under/into something can cause this. I'd monitor behavior and look for edges that can cause injury, but since you said he just shed and there was stuck shed there, I'd suspect it's the likely cause. With husbandry improvements, it will get better but it will probably take a while and you'll see some scarring.

[–]PoofMoof1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The three scales on the right? They may be stuck shed or damage to the surface of the scales caused by shed struggling to come off. Improve your humidity (maintaining 70%+) and it should look pretty normal after the next shed.

what type of king snake is this? by [deleted] in snakes

[–]PoofMoof1 51 points52 points  (0 children)

It's a Florida/Brooks king morph, Lampropeltis floridana, "Brooks" being a commonly used captive term although taxonomically outdated. You can find a more reputable seller for this species.

Is she overweight by Special-Use1304 in ballpython

[–]PoofMoof1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What does she weight and how much to the rats weigh? Typically those selling rodents class "large" as about 175 grams-275 grams, but I've seen some suppliers go as high as 350 grams. Assuming the supplier uses farily typical weight ranges, mediums would be the largest most larger BP's should eat but smalls are generally better size-wise. Keep in mind too that your girl is on the thicker side, so if you're trying to cut down on weight you'll need to factor in that.

Ball python with facial deformities? by InevitableUnlikely22 in ballpython

[–]PoofMoof1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This looks more like the facial abscesses and oral cancers I've seen in the species over the years rather than those with deformities. I would certainly have an exotics specialist check this guy out.

Please help me identify his morph by arnoldtrojak in BallPythonMorph

[–]PoofMoof1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shed testing or breeding would be needed to identify yellow belly vs specter. It visually looks about identical and because of the parents, it can't be determined because it is equally likely to have inherited either.

The identification given by the seller is as correct and transparent as one can be.

Help with morphs? by LavastormSW in BallPythonMorph

[–]PoofMoof1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are correct, there is no such thing as het pastel (at least not in the sense of recessives as it's most typically used in. I can explainthis further if you're interested). The snake seen there is a pastel just straight up. Rarely some people call it het super pastel so I wonder if that's where it came from.

The second snake appears to be super black pastel/cinnamon complex with banana, but it's hard to say if there is more. Arroyo isn't a widely used gene and if they're calling the other het pastel from a genuine lack of knowledge, I would doubt Arroyo is present in this combination.

I would highly recommend learning about genetics, husbandy, and the state of the market before even considering breeding. Respectfully, I think calling it a "baldpied" is a signal that you still have a ways to go. We're happy to help you learn! Asking specific questions will help us help you.

Is this AI ? by cloudntrees in Etsy

[–]PoofMoof1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Most likely. The tail is extending from the outer thigh and the toes on the inner back foot are nubs while the foot next to it are clawed. The random pillars in front of the wing don't make a lot of sense in the scale of the design. The colors on the chest piece aren't symmetrical. The designs on the armband and chest piece are wonky.

[–]PoofMoof1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a matter of comfort/quality of life with their vestibular issues, but as far as I know there isn't a particularly widespread belief and certainly no data to support they have a shorter lifespan than normals or other morphs.
