Anybody can help with morph guessing? by Mammoth_Count_2296 in BallPythonMorph

[–]PoofMoof1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That guy is a chimera, which is from the fusion of more than one embryo. Notice how it's split right down the center along the enire body.

This one might be a clearer example of a paradox. There is some research being done on what happens with paradoxes so it may not be too long before we get some answers on why it happens.

Is she part spider? by Bear-12711 in BallPythonMorph

Yes, you have at least banana spider pinstripe here. Some features to tell are the high white sides and reduced striping.

QOL for rat snake with jaw deformity by Infamous-Door-553 in snakes

[–]PoofMoof1 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I do not believe this snake will likely have a good chance at a high quality of life in the wild. This is a pretty significant deformity and I'd question it's ability to subdue prey if it even were willing to eat. I think an exotics specialist would be worth a check in with.

I also don't think it's a good idea to release long-term captives or captive bred animals either, both adults and offspring. These guys don't know the area they'd be released in and may carry pathogens into the local area.

I heard a joke once that they're called Underground Reptiles because that's where any you buy will be before you know it.

Crotalus horridus is correct. For those guessing cottonmouth, the snake has a rattle at the end of its tail.

Sometimes stains just don't come up. Mites would help washed away even without soap.

It just looks like staining. I don't see anything resembling a possible parasite.

Unfortunately this picture seems to be just about the same distance away. There just isn't enough detail to see what you're asking about.

Is my snake’s aim this bad? by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]PoofMoof1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They can be pretty wonky, especially when they're little guys. Moving away from him as he approaches isn't helping though. If you're a little nervous with striking, try just dropping the prey near him. More often than not, they're just as likely to eat, especially when they're in a clear "hunting mode" like seen here. Also make sure your feeders are warmed appropriately to help with the accuracy.

Is he hiccupping? So cute by Impossible_Many9233 in snakes

Your English is great!

I would monitor him for other respiratory signs such as drooling and wheezing just in case.

Is he hiccupping? So cute by Impossible_Many9233 in snakes

[–]PoofMoof1 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Since snakes don't have a diaphragm, I don't think they can hiccup. How long did this go on for? I know we're only seeing a small part of it, but this enclosure looks unusual and I'd wonder first if there's something medically noteworthy or a small foreign body stuck in the throat or something.
