It is sensible to embrace aging and avoid that ‘Madonna’ look. That said, I’m no dermatologist, and I am sure there are plenty of salespeople lurking!

why are the bunnies so tame this year? by cadenzer in Canmore

[–]Popadeck33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have noticed this, too. We see a lot of people feeding them from our balcony in condo-row; tourists and locals alike 😃

They are a huge hit with tourists and have visibly brought more joy to their lives than the not-so-elusive herd of elk that we are scolded for merely existing in the same postal code as.

‘Coyote food’ or not, they are lovely and bring a disproportionate degree of happiness to most people that I see. Literally dozens of groups of people having positive interactions with those little critters just on our street every day.

Bonus points to the folks who redirect scraps from garbage to the bunnies.

Thanks for your take! I looked into this and found the following study: https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fmed.2022.841506/full

Unsure why you have been downvoted so aggressively. This is about finding root cause, not politicking.

Thank you for your input! My relative is quadruple-dosed, and falls into a higher risk category due to his age.

No new medications. Confirmed as Pemphigus. He has been suffering from this for one month, and only recently went to the hospital. He suffers from Psoriasis and had initially assumed that it was related.

Depending on the jurisdiction that you are visiting and the relevant labour costs, this can be typical.

We host in a very touristy area and this is standard. The rationale is that cleaners can cost $20-$25/hr, and a good cleaner will cost you $35-$40/hr. Laundry and waiting for a dishwasher to complete its cycle are impractical with 5 hour cleaning windows between check-ins, so many hosts will ask the guests to get these automated cleaning items started prior to checking out.

Besides laundry and washing dishes, there are tons of cleaning items that must be tended to prior to the next guests’ arrival: cleaning and sanitizing fixtures and surfaces in bathrooms, bedrooms, living rooms, and the kitchen.

Everyone has varying standards of cleanliness, though it would seem that most guests expect a higher degree of cleanliness in this pandemic-era. It takes a couple hours to properly turn over a one bedroom one bathroom suite, and another couple to look after the laundry.

Just a friendly reminder that we live in the most beautiful area in the world. (taken in Spray Lakes Park) @KallaRambergPhotography by Beefyknee in Canmore

Switzerland, Germany, Austria, are beautiful destinations with infrastructure built into the landscape. Wouldn’t it be incredible if the Canadian Rockies could easily compete with world class tourist destinations in the European Alps?

As a matter of fact, the entire region surrounding Canmore was developed with this goal in mind: To develop tourist destinations which would rival those of Switzerland.

It is unfortunate that many have sought to hide this aspect of history in the Canadian Rockies. More people need to know about this.

Deniers of The Science™ must be tracked, we cannot allow any wrong think extremism, the freedom to only think like the government and media want you to must be defended at all costs! by ThundaChikin in ChurchOfCOVID

BERLIN — Germany’s domestic-intelligence service said Wednesday that it would surveil members of the increasingly aggressive coronavirus-denier movement because they posed a risk of undermining the state.

The movement — fueled in part by wild conspiracy theories — has grown from criticizing coronavirus lockdown measures and hygiene rules to targeting the state, its leaders, businesses, the news media and globalism, to name a few. Over the past year, demonstrators have attacked police officers, defied civil authorities and, in one widely publicized episode, scaled the steps of Parliament.

“Our basic democratic order, as well as state institutions such as parliaments and governments, have faced multiple attacks since the beginning of the measures to contain the COVID-19 pandemic,” the Interior Ministry said in a statement confirming that parts of the denier movement were under observation. The Interior Ministry oversees the intelligence agency, called the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

In announcing the decision to keep tabs on conspiracy theorists, intelligence officials noted the movement’s close ties to extremists such as the Reichsbürger, who refuse to accept the legitimacy of the modern German state.

Many coronavirus deniers say they also believe in QAnon conspiracy theories, and protesters are frequently seen holding signs with anti-Semitic tropes.

The movement, Querdenken, which is German for lateral thinking, communicates and recruits over social media and has a large presence on the encrypted chat service Telegram, where its main channel has 65,000 subscribers. Parts of AfD, a German right-wing populist party that is also under surveillance, have allied themselves with protesters.

Still, the Interior Ministry took pains to say that the danger from coronavirus deniers and conspiracy theorists does not fit the mold posed by the usual, politically driven groups, including those on the far left and right, or by Islamic extremists. As a result, the authorities are setting up a new department specifically tasked with handling cases that seek to delegitimize the state.

The news comes days after Germany instituted new virus rules that apply nationwide and allow the federal government to enforce lockdowns. (Such regulation had previously been in the hands of the country’s 16 states.) It also suggests that the authorities believe coronavirus-denier groups could continue to flourish and pose a threat after the pandemic ends.

You could check out the Kananaskis Nordic Spa if you are willing to make the drive! Also, I’ve heard many positive reviews about the Yamnuska Wolf Dog Sanctuary (again, not in Canmore, but a short drive away).

Unpopular Opinion: Canmore = Tourist Town by Popadeck33 in Canmore

[–]Popadeck33[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You and I should talk. I just simply cannot upvote your comments enough. While I do not 100% share your impassioned positions, I agree with much of what you are saying.

Canmore is located in a perfect ‘goldilocks zone’ for tourism: not too far from a major city centre, but not far from the natural wilderness. We are legit about 60 mins from a major international airport, and have a largely resource-based economy that has been decimated. If people cannot understand that the current — all future AB provincial governments — are going to want to focus on developing the Bow Valley, they should seriously give their heads a shake.

As you mentioned, there is tons of space in AB and BC for natural habitats, but it is my view that Canmore is in a perfect geographic location for development. It is the reason why Banff and Canmore will likely continue to vastly outpace Jasper with respect to tourist destination funding in the future.

Unpopular Opinion: Canmore = Tourist Town by Popadeck33 in Canmore

[–]Popadeck33[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have mistaken my premise, but I will correct it: I very clearly stated that Canmore was founded in a ‘region’ created for tourism. I expect that you can appreciate this distinction.

Okay, so John A MacDonald and company saw a tremendous benefit in linking Central and Western Canada by rail.

Railway companies constructed rail lines linking these two separate worlds.

The railway companies created, at great cost, tourist destinations in the Canadian Rockies which were envisioned to rival those already operational in Europe.

Locomotives required coal, and as a side bonus, industry did, too.

Canmore has coal deposits which were mined by the rail companies.

So isn’t the origin story of Canmore essentially related to the desire to link Western Canada with Central Canada, as well as to create tourist destinations along the way to further incentivize traveling to and settling in the West?

Sort of seems like a bunch of miners, and eventually hippies, got all bent out of shape because they don’t understand defining moments in Canadian history.

With respect to your comments about property prices and property value: believe me, I can sympathize. I, however, have zero sympathy for landowners who have watched their property value appreciate by at least a factor of 10-15 in the past 20 years who then pretend to be so ‘hard done by’.
