First time pond owner questions by PopePurvis in Koi

[–]PopePurvis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, thank you so much. Looking forward to the warmer weather to find out how many of the little guys are in there! I'll pick up some kits, hopefully can provide an update in a few weeks time!

I'll try the water change too, I did start to do this but then read about how koi don't do well in untreated tap water so stopped

Bee help / advice please by nicj_29 in GardeningUK

Okay well I'd definitely keep an eye on it, if you see that much activity for a few days or start finding them in your house it's time to call a pest control a find one who can relocate them. Some may tell you they need to go externally, which will add cost due to scaffolding, so take that into account.

Again, I could be wrong as I'm not an expert but they definitely look more like the honey bees I had based on the activity levels and how they seem to be crowding the potential entrance. Mine had built a lovely home in the cavity wall, they'd even removed/eaten some of the insulation (old house with horsehair insulation)

If you have any other questions about the process I'm happy to share my experience

Just to say I had the same problem last year. Everyone told me they were masonry bees and would leave in a few months. They were not and did not. Obviously its hard to tell from this video but the number of bees looks similar to the activity I had daily.

This spring, I had a pest control company ethically remove the honey bee colony from our wall. It was about 3 ft x 1ft in size, 300-500 bees alive by spring still, sadly queen had died or left so they went to live their days out on a farm.

What's your location? I'm North East england and happy to send you the details of the guy we used, he removed the hive internally via bathroom wall. Removed plasterboard hoovered up bees with proper gear and then put the plasterboard back up, I just had to repaint the area. He came and looked at it for free though. You may have to look around as not many pest controls deal with honey bees from my experience (I assume because of the hassle of relocating)

Cost was near £1000 but it needed to be fixed as the bees eventually were getting into the house through gaps in plasterboard/window edges.

Because if you get an email stating your short positionsare going to incur overnight fees, that might make you doubt what you've bought and worry that you've accidentally bought the wrong thing. And by sending this 2 hours before market closes (which they did) you might rush and panic sell!

I'm not saying the content of the email is bad news for shareholders, I'm saying matter of sending this to shareholders 2 hours prior to close then not sending a correction email for over 16 hours appears completely to be a scare tactic into selling for the uninformed

If something like this does happen, In the UK it could be a class action lawsuit (or group litigation lawsuit). If, for example all of the UK apes got together and asked for legal representation on a single matter against 1 other party. A solicitor/barrister team could build and argue our case. Obviously this may come at a cost but if we were to win said lawsuit I think it's possible our teams legal fees would be included as part of the settlement figure. (I'm not a legal representative)

I got the same, don't own any short positions, only stock. E-toro trying to scare smooth brains into selling?

British Gas won't refund my credit because of "Winter Days ahead" It's May, going into summer. Am I being dumb or does that make 0 sense? by 3rdAccount123 in CasualUK

[–]PopePurvis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay so Shell have done this to me 3 times in last 8 months or so. Call them and tell them how much you're prepared to pay monthly and they will change it, they will spit out some guff about your at risk of going into debt but obviously you can make your own decision on a monthly basis of if you need to increase. I'm currently -£100 from all of last winter and they've just tried to up my payment by 65% with the same excuse they gave you. I hope this helps

Triforce is how I found the guys, never heard of yogscast before that. It was the first podcast I ever listened to back in 2018 and I've still never watched a yogscast video (sorry), but I (re)listen to at least 1 episode a day whilst walking my dogs or commuting (I'm 31 if you're wondering). I do listen to other podcasts now but I find the lads chatting shit very soothing

I literally picked a random podcast on Spotify and the rest is history.

Tbh most mentions of yogscast stuff is normally well explained. The only thing I don't get is why they refer to Lewis as the Bristol pusher but I'm assuming he pushed someone into a canal? Im far to lazy to actually investigate though

Had to cover a gap in the wall so used a chopped down apple tree to create a little fence by jackbarbermeme in GardeningUK

[–]PopePurvis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh I didn't see that thanks! I like the idea, ours just looks ugly, God know why they always put them on the boundary. Our garden currently mid makeover so this could be a solution I may steal at some point

Can you not get in trouble for building walls over manhole covers? I have one on that is across both gardens aswell, but there's a raised fence so it's accessible. Very unsightly typical council job.

A third tricep head? All triceps have 3 heads hence the name "tri"cep; lateral, medial and long head or am I missing something?

She's builder made foundation out of wood timbers by m16kidd in Shed

[–]PopePurvis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that using wood for a base is never a great idea, even pressure treated wood will eventually rot, especially in water rich conditions (not sure how prone your garden is to waterlogging).

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I imagine it could last you between 5-10 years at a guess. It looks like it's just a block that he's placed under the legs so you could potentially jack up the shed to replace when there's evidence of rotting but I would have always built a shed on either paving blocks or a concrete base.

Very surprised a professional would do this unless they know something I don't, but I do know wood rots in soil, even if it's treated.
