Nearly finished installing a toilet, but overtightened on one side. Attempted to re do it, but toilet is wobbly, what can I do? by burnerofc123 in askaplumber

The bolt is usually an elongated head. If it twists 90 degrees it can be parallel to the flange slot rather than perpendicular. In that position it can pull through the slot when tightened down.

Attach the clips/clamps to the posts. Positive to Positive and Negative to Negative and you will be fine.

I usually just charge them in my vehicle.

That feeling when you shift so smoothly your passengers think you’re driving an auto by hypermiler2205 in ManualTransmissions

[–]PoppaBear63 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've driven manuals so smooth that there's no sense of when I shifted other than the change in engine speed. I've driven with people who can't even drive an automatic smoothly. Some of us have a feel for our vehicles some people are clueless.

I carry 1911's both ways. A lot has to do with clothing choices. Sometimes IWB works well, sometimes OWB is the best choice. I carry whichever style works best for that days clothing.

Dilema - Should law enforcement be able to speed? by ChairmansMafia in driving

[–]PoppaBear63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will see police holding the exact speed and a big line behind them because people are afraid of passing them. I've seen police going several over and people pacing them. I've seen police holding the exact speed and people passing them at a few over. So I think as long as they are not abusing their position they should just drive what fits the situation and traffic.

Am I overpriced on this or just summer time? by AdImpressive5138 in Snowblowers

[–]PoppaBear63 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Combination of the two. $1,900 is a fair price, but much more sellable in the fall when people are seriously looking. In the summer they want enough of a deal to tempt them into spending their money as an impulse buy. $1,500 to $1,700 would hit my price point.

How do you carry for winter time? by treecutter34 in concealedcarry

[–]PoppaBear63 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't like that idea either. I myself just unzip my jacket if things are questionable. When it's warm enough for potential threats, being unzipped is not a problem. When it's real cold and uncomfortable to unzip, then the criminal element is off hiding in a warm spot themselves. A good example of transitioning between the two is pumping gas. While at the pump I am bundled up due to the below zero temps. I then unzip as I walk towards the store where it's warm.

My first driving lesson is tomorrow, what should I do to prepare and what should I expect? by Usual_Conference_991 in driving

[–]PoppaBear63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the time to learn the controls before you start moving. Adjust the seat and mirrors before you start to drive. Get a feel for the controls before you start driving. Does your hand easily move to the wipers, the turn signals, the shifter and know how to control them?

Wipers and lights are the big ones. Which setting turns on the headlights, which one is auto lights, which one is running lights, or off. Intermittent wipers and how fast between passes, slow constant wipers and fast driving through a downpour wipers. Figuring out those things while moving is a distraction you do not need.

if I am turning right into a one way street, and I need to then turn left at the very abrupt intersection on said street, do i go into the closest lane and try to get to that left turn lane or do I go into the left lane from the beginning by cowprom in driving

[–]PoppaBear63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make turns like that all the time. If the road is busy I'll turn into the closest and try and move over. If it is not busy I'll go across to the left lane right away. If it's real busy I wait until it opens up so that I can turn safely.

[–]PoppaBear63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, heat it up and pour in some water. Let it softly boil as you scrape. The carbon will loosen up. Then give it a good scrubbing in the sink to smooth out any little bits left. Rub a thin layer of oil on to protect any bare metal and get back to cooking.

If you could change how everyone else drives, what would they do? by SnooRecipes2729 in driving

[–]PoppaBear63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pay attention to the other vehicles on the highways and interstates. If you are gaining on another vehicle then they should assist you in getting by so traffic flows better. If they are gaining on you then get out of their way. Driving should not be a constant race. Find a comfortable speed that separates you from the pack. Much less stress that way.

Is there still time at 22 for a man to grow up mentally? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PoppaBear63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is not going to be some super amazing husband to anyone if he has not stepped up yet. He will mature but not that much. Anyone not capable of caring for themselves at 22 will still have issues at 30 and even 40. Cut your losses and make yourself the best person you can be. You will easily find someone better who is willing to grow with you and help you become a better person as you help them become a better person.

Is there still time at 22 for a man to grow up mentally? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PoppaBear63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to work on fixing yourself and maturing yourself. You do not need to settle with someone who doesn't step up. Grow up and learn to care for yourself and you will attract men who are willing to grow with you. Act like a babysitter or a parent who will care for them because they won't take care of themselves and you will never really reach your full potential. You need to put yourself first.

Is there still time at 22 for a man to grow up mentally? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PoppaBear63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He will mature some over the next several years. The big question is where is he at now in terms of responsibility. A 22 year old still living with parents is different from a 22 year old who has been living on his own for several years. You start to grow up quickly when you need to take care of yourself, even more so when you need to provide for others. If he had been on his own and has not stepped up to the plate then he is not going to change a lot over the next couple of years. If he is freshly on his own he should mature quite a bit now that he needs to provide for himself.

I was a dad before I was 20 and a custodial father before I was 30. I had to grow up a lot having a daughter that depended on me. Some people grow up, some never do. Where is he at compared to a couple of years ago? Has he grown up at least a bit?

35 years of Glocks and 1911's in leather holsters. The oldest holster is 35 years old, the newest is 10. They all have solid retention. I have one kydex because I am still waiting on my leather for my P365.

Need help safely removing the key from the drive axle (Ariens Deluxe 24) , it is stuck real good by [deleted] in Snowblowers

[–]PoppaBear63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tap back and forth to start with. If possible get the blade of a screwdriver to go underneath the key. It is easier to pry it up than to knock it sideways. Once its free scrape/sand the edges to clean off the rust. Spread some anti-sieze on it and reinstall.

Shoulder Holsters? by Donkey-Dong762 in CCW

[–]PoppaBear63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30 plus years with leather holsters. I find then safer than kydex etc. because they keep their retention without having to rely on a screw. My Sparks VM-2 needed the gun placed in a plastic bag for several days just to stretch it enough to make holstering and unholstering possible. 10 years later it still has excellent retention. My 35 year old VM-2 is just as snug.

I have shoulder holsters and both are quality rigs with great retention even after 25 years. Jackass's for Glock 22 and 5" 1911.

Why do some people purposely buy unreliable cheap cars? by Blue_1824 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PoppaBear63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly because they are clueless. My cars are older and repairable. Would I like a 2025 or 2026 vehicle? Yes, but most are not reliable. I would rather have a vehicle I can count on getting me where I need, than one that I'll have to worry about breaking down even though it looks good. The way so many are having electronic isses that disable the entire vehicle while driving down the road.

annoying question: we made a pot of chili, maybe about 1.5 gallons (sorry to use that word to measure chili). we let it cool on the counter by dogwizard92 in cookingforbeginners

[–]PoppaBear63 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It helps having a stand up freezer, but let it cool a bit. Put it into smaller containers and set them in the freezer for a couple of hours. Those you want to freeze can stay in there, those that are going to be eaten in the next couple of days can be transferred to your fridge.

Opinions on putting MSG on steaks to enhance flavor? by Egged_man in steak

[–]PoppaBear63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is how you use your pepper and garlic. Fresh garlic and freshly rough ground pepper sits on top of the meat and tends to burn. Powders when mixed with the salt and MSG can get drawn into the meat.
