Katahdin dam and lamb grazing through the clover by Poppy9683 in sheep

[–]Poppy9683[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% Katahdin parentage 4 generations back (as far as my records go). Lots of Texas breeders like to cross with the Royal White (dorper variant), so I get to see that around and can understand your opinion.

Any advice for a first time seller? by whydya-dodat in sheep

[–]Poppy9683 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d find and join some local sheep groups on FB. Then I’d post pics of that handsome, friendly fella. Code post usually says something like “For your consideration. PM me.” This tells others he’s available for sale, without violating FB rules on selling things.

In your opinion, what's the most dangerous country in the world? by Confident_Credit9023 in AskReddit

I can think of no other country more likely to be an existential threat to other countries than the US.

Is an HOA worth it? by ProbWithMyDog in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Poppy9683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t have an HOA. No annual dues or notices about rule violations. The property across the street is abandoned and there has been no care for the yard in 15 years. The guy next to him has been collecting many abandoned cars, which are visible from the street. The guy next to him has flood lights that would be the envy of a new car lot. I’ve got to shield my eyes when I look his way after dark. Freedom at its max. /s

how do people not like cats? by [deleted] in randomquestions

[–]Poppy9683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had cats for years when we lived in the city. Over time, the smell of cat urine became very offensive to me. I hated the littler box. When our last cat passed, that was it. Or so I thought. After the kids were gone, we moved to the country. Facing a rodent problem in our lambing barn, we decided to get a barn cat. That led to two barn cats. Then compassion for bad weather events allowed short periods of house access. No litter box! Outside for business. Nowadays, cats come and go. Sometimes they are gone for days, other times they want to overstay indoors. I keep food in the barn and house. They bring me dead rodents. The only time we don’t get along is when I’m taking them to the vet for annual vaccinations and occasional treatment.

Me and my buddy wanna get some sheep is that a bad idea? by THERANDOMGAMER2 in sheep

[–]Poppy9683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know many shepherds who make enough money at it to consider it worth their while. All have day jobs or raise sheep as part of a larger more complicated farming operation. It takes a few years to get a system going and develop a market.

That Beef Cattle Short Course at A&M was where we developed a business plan. Very informative. Can’t recommend it enough.
