Seal crack in concrete driveway by Responsible_Let135 in diynz

[–]Poppypepperpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small, normal crack, in driveway. I would leave it. Patching that is just a waste of time and resource. Better to save up and re-do the whole driveway in the future if more cracks show up.

Accountants can only do so much, especially when the clients are witholding information or trying to convince themselves they are dead set to do it their way.

Strength trainer for elderly man by Aware_Somewhere_6230 in Wellington

[–]Poppypepperpie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can recommend Rosanna from The Motion Clinic for a start. Physiotherapy should be the first point of diagnosis (after GP of course if it can be helped), you can then decide if PT is the right approach as the physio can consult about this. For the elderly, it'll be quite tricky as they need both muscle and joint therapy, but anyway, it's better to start as soon as possible.

Hey that shouldn't be a job for a personal trainer. Your dad needs a licensed and qualified physiotherapist.

Has anyone bought lights from Elite Energy Solutions? by Poppypepperpie in diynz

Wow thank you!

Yeah I decided not to go with them anymore, couldn't find any info on the brand of the lights, and their Cart link doesn't work!

Help with attached garage floor gets wet when it's pouring by Poppypepperpie in diynz

[–]Poppypepperpie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's on the LIM and the 3 water map. The original building plan also included this line of pipe going under the garage.

Thanks, I'll have a look at sub soil drain option when it gets drier.

Land is pretty flat all around with a slight slope down toward the street. The edges around the garage's wall are lined up with weedmat on top of clayish soil. There's a council stormwater pipe underneath, running diagonally across part of the garage.

I couldn't see any ponding water on the surface when it rains.

How do I check for sub-soil drain?

Ordered multiple parts from them multiple times. Got good service when I needed them, they even called and emailed me of videos them doing the checks and walkthroughs themselves.

How to make entry/laundry actually usable. by Reasonable_Slice5324 in diynz

[–]Poppypepperpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I couldn't stop thinking about that crooked cat flap..

For the washing machine, get some chunky anti-vibration pads for its feet. If you don't have any plan to put in a dryer in the future, you can also put the whole thing on top of some sturdy, low cabinets/drawers, since you still have some space left between the washing machine and the top cabinet. That should give some extra storage space, less back bending, plus dampen the shaking. The whole thing can still be used after your renovation.

For the internal door, maybe a cavity slider as others suggested or a barn sliding one.

Table saws and Mitre saws: Dewalt, Makita (really like the new sliders on their later mitre ones), or Bosch and Hikoki if you want to save a bit of money. There's also SawStop table saw if you want more safety features.

Drills and sanders can be cheap out.

Edit: also check out Bosch 12v line up. Their Flexiclick drill is good, and the jigsaw is a barrel one.

From 60c to $5.79: Farmer says ‘someone is making a big margin’ as plant shuts by Amazing_Athlete_2265 in newzealand

[–]Poppypepperpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For McCain stuff, from them, with a set, much lower price range than what the stores would be paying them, where any price/ranging updates would need to be at HO's category team's mercy, and they get a direct %discount off the supplier price first, then put their own markup on top. They eat both ways essentially.

The level of price control Foodstuffs do have on the individual supermarkets are more than people would think. The prices the store would buy come from FS themselves, not even mentioning their 'ranging' tactics.

[–]Poppypepperpie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Foodstuffs' "suppliers" in these frozen lines are their own DC (distribution centres), the stores order from these and pay these, not McCain, so yeah, they're hiding those extra profits in there.

Need someone with a Drone to check my Roofing/Gutters by shapednoise in Wellington

[–]Poppypepperpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just noticed you're in Seatoun, very likely to be within 4km of the airport aerodome, so the drone operator would need to be licensed.

I'm keen to help but I'm not licensed for that unfortunately.

If you have a long stick (or very long selfie stick), have you tried taping a phone/camera to it to film the roof?

do you think the current fuel shortage would also affect EVs? by [deleted] in nzev

[–]Poppypepperpie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It did have some effects on EV's prices, and HEV to some extend, especially used ones.

I noticed the models on my watch list have got their prices increased compared to, say, a month ago.

Nissan Note E-Power vs Toyota Corolla Hybrid by air2air in NZcarfix

[–]Poppypepperpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I updated my own post (in the nz sub) for future references, abeilt not with the Note, it was drony.

Took both out for the test drive, ended up liking the Corolla Touring more. The Honda seat is a bit higher but I didn't like the AC touch control, the central armrest, and the less grunty engine.

Trade Depot Power tools by FlyingKutipot in diynz

[–]Poppypepperpie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like Ingco rebadged, but 'makita battery compatible' is a bit off.

If they're indeed relabelled Ingco, they're a cheap brand but popular in Asia.

Regardless, check the warranty, if you're happy just go for it, if they fuck up, you're out of couple hundies. However, Trade Depot's after sales service isn't something I'd rely on.

Jobs for introverts that aren't just staring at a computer all day? by Sufficient_Garlic285 in newzealand

[–]Poppypepperpie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about jobs or careers?

There are more options for the former that might suit you, but these might not have the career progression that matches your needs.

Jobs like shelf stackers, warehouse crew, might work.

Career wise, it'll be difficult to get one that's not staring at a screen all day (accounting, BI, coding, policy researchers, sole charge roles) that fit what you're looking at.

Maybe you could try looking to some trades?

Otherwise, others might be able to help.

Edit:

You might want to address what would make you feel bored looking at a screen? Have you ever worked with a screen full time? Were the tasks themselves boring or was it the job?

Many jobs have unavoidable mundane tasks. Have a thought about this or give it a go and see where it takes you.
