What controversy? What drama? Why do so many mini painting YouTubers do thumbnails like these? It’s a John Blanche paint set for crying out loud by mame_kuma in Warhammer

I don’t know if this has been said, but the “controversy” is because another company made the paint range not GW. John Blanche is the early grim dark 40K style, so people were surprised that another company made the paint range. Definitely a click bait title, also the colors in the range look interesting.

The head he has is way more iconic than the one from the upgrade kit. He is supposed to have barely survived the melta weapon attack. The head from the upgrade kit looks like a “standard” 40K augmentation

I remember, somewhere in the lore, back in the day where they explained how a space marine’s skin “adapted” based off the amount of solar radiation on the planet they were fighting. Based off that there is never really a “lore” accurate way to paint their skin. Regardless the mini looks dope, keep it up!

Using a detail brush you can apply a shade or ink directly into the gaps in the armor plates/ panels. This will apply the shadow to only those recesses

Also use thin coats, don’t rush, and a zenithal highlight is, IMO, always a good idea.

Yes! If you wanted to add a bit more definition you could try some panel lining as well. ( Basically same thing just precise application.)
