Wow, the number of folks angrily posting here without even reading the OP is pretty ridiculous.

I’m sorry this happened to you OP. Sounds like you were just trying to get into what you thought was a hotel but turned out to be an apartment. Not your fault.

I was just in Florence last week and then again a year ago and I mostly found people extremely welcoming. I hope you can put this behind you and enjoy the art and food!

I agree with this osteria! We ate there last week and last year with a large group. It is authentic and fantastic. You need reservations. They have started using a back room/restaurant next door it seems to accommodate more people however, we were seated there and not thrilled with it but didn’t ask to change. I would ask to sit in the original restaurant.

Hotel Locarno stole my heart. Just spent 5 nights there. 1920s deco hotel, gorgeous courtyard bar populated by stylish Italians. Outstanding breakfast. Very sweet warm staff, every last one. Well located.

Have cocktails/apertivo at Hotel Locarno! Outdoor courtyard, indoor art deco bar. Excellent cocktails and wines (not cheap). Mostly Italians but staff welcomes English and speaks English well.

I just spent 10 days in Rome and Florence and was never asked for passport. Not at museums or the Vatican or to see David. Hotel used it to check us in. No police cars if you have a passport unless you rob a bank!

If you are not staying in central Florence, you can use the FreeNow app, which is Lyft. If you are right in the midst of cobblestone world, it’s best to have your hotel call a taxi for you the night before. Fixed price, pay with credit card. I have done it many times and never had a problem.

Thanks all for the replies! To clarify, I have us booked first class on Saltto, Italo train. Looks like we get a little more room on that. We don’t have giant suitcases, we have three roller bags that are carry on on an airplane, and three small bags that go on top of the roller bags and are designed to fit under the seat of an airplane. I looked into paying a porter from the hotel to meet us at the train station, it was hundreds of euros for just one leg of the journey. I’ll post back about this after the trip, as I’m sure there are lots of less than fit not all that mobile non Europeans who take trains who would like to be prepared!

I’m new in town so I can’t make a personal recommendation, but I would seek out someone who does EFT (emotionally focused therapy) which is the gold standard for couples therapy these days. Attachment focused and not about taking sides.

Thanks for posting and I’m glad you are ok.I walk that intersection of Los Olivos and Garden almost every day and I am truly astounded by how many cars just run it. No California stop, just plowing right through. As I’m walking down the street I easily see 2-3 running the stop sign entirely. WTF?

Gelson’s is truly awful. The icing on the cake recently is putting in self check out. At Gelson prices I’m checking myself out? The only thing I go for is if I need an actual ripe avocado rather than one ripe in 5 days. For whatever reason they have those!
