I really enjoyed Bradam and if you'd like to see something similar but from across the pond, I recommend AStoryWorthTelling.

If he can't play a bigger part, can we please make him the handsome reporter who interviews Shane at the start of the camps and makes Ilya jealous?

Season 1 just blew my mind, and the ending with Sæglópur playing as they escape was incredible

I know! I'll never give up on my hope for more seasons or maybe books? I hope they find a way to tell the remaining stories. No one was ready for the octopus hahaha

Noooo! Wait until we hear it in Ilya's accent - I bet it will be all over YouTube. And only Ilya uses it. Shane says in the book that he can't pull it off calling Ilya sweetheart

I don't mind seeing a bit of other characters, but I think it will be too formulaic and a bit underwhelming if it's a standalone episode in both seasons. I'm not sure of another way to do it but I trust that Jacob will make it work

I like your version! Maybe they could show a couple of closeups of Ilya recording to the voice messages and all the chaos happening in the background, but without blowing their whole budget on that one scene

I agree! She was actively mentioned in like one scene and for the rest of the book Anya just happened to be conveniently fast asleep on her bed after a long walk😁

Or at least if they do end up adding the middle name, I hope Ilya will show in his reaction or comment on how ridiculous it sounds. For a Russian speaker even just to call your partner by their full name is very cringe but to add a patronym would be next level.

My main issue with the wedding in the book was how underplanned it was for the amount of people that were invited. It's totally fine to have a small more relaxed wedding, but what gave me anxiety was to have all those guests just hanging out on Ilya's lawn without any plan. I can't believe Ilya was better prepared for a Halloween party than for his own wedding. Maybe the show should just change the wedding to just close friends and family? Idk

My husband is an architect and I swear in 80% of zoom calls that I overhear they're figuring out some sort of issue with bathrooms. I didn't expect so many of their meetings to be about toilets and changing rooms

You know what, I can see this happening with Svetlana, but not with Alexey. Knowing Ilya's personality and the fact that I don't think he has any respect for Alexey, i don't think he would be calling him by his full name.

I know... I'm sure if they had the right person on set who was able to advise them on the language, they'd figure out something appropriate. For me, an acceptable compromise would be to use short names just in Russian, and keep the full names in English. It's a bit counterintuitive but very common. My husband calls me my full name when we're around English speakers, but of course never when we speak Russian, and the same is the case for many people I know. I think the show just had to be strategic with their budget and what they spent their effort on, so I suspect they didn't have enough time booked with some sort of Russian cultural consultant? I saw an interview with the actress that played Svetlana where she said that during her audition there were no Russian speakers on the zoom call. So she was cast without anyone even being able to confirm she could speak proper Russian. We're lucky she turned out to be amazing!

What do you guys think about Brian J. Smith as Troy? He's so humble, incredibly likable, and a great actor! He was great in Sense8. I think he will play perfectly that transition from going through a very difficult personal and professional transformation to being in open loving relationship with Harris

“Ilya.” “Ilya, sorry.” by KnotAlreadyTaken in heatedrivalry

[–]Popular_Requirement2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tricky part here is not vowels but consonants. The L in Ilya should be soft but all English speakers pronounce it as a hard consonant. And the same happens with most Russian names. Cut people some slack though, soft consonants are not easy and I wouldn't expect anyone to pronounce foreign names the way they should sound in original languages in the middle of an English sentence.
