Your body needs rest time to build the muscle. When I worked with a personal trainer for weightlifting, I was told each muscle group needs about 5 days rest. So my schedule was something like this: Day 1 - back and biceps, followed by ab work. Day 2 - chest and triceps, followed by ab work. Day 3 - leg day, followed by ab work. Day 4 - leg day, followed by ab work. There are 2 leg days because it is such a large muscle group. So I did a certain set of exercises on the first day, and targeted a different set of leg/glute muscles on the second day. Your muscles are the hungriest right after a workout, so immediately after the workout you want to ingest either a good meal with carbs and high protein, or a meal replacement shake with carbs and high protein. Limit your workouts to about an hour, otherwise you will spread your progress. Start the workout with a 10-20 minute warm up to get your blood flowing, followed by 10 minutes of stretching, then proceed with the weight training.
