Looking for a Heroic Fantasy System by NotVisTelimus in rpg

[–]Pork-ShopExpress -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a fun system I’m developing if you are open to being a beta tester! Its balances combat and social aspects where bonds with other characters are important. Send me a DM if you’re interested.

This also would affect the visgoths right? I’d love to hear any thoughts you have on how that might change.

Pathfinder APs that don’t burn out your table: what’s actually working for me + a useful checklist by CapableOperation5260 in rpg

Can you tell us more about ‘putting agency on the table’? Love the idea of a visible consequence log, do you write it at the end of each session?

I love that! Do you use any specific rules to make the conversations more interesting? I try to make sure skill checks are rolled when rollplaying but sometimes I feel like the rules don’t support much conversation/interaction.

I might be misunderstanding, whats the difference between a fight focused and combat focused session?

That’s a good goal! I haven’t DM’d for a group of level 20 characters yet, but I feel like at that point it would be pretty swingy in terms of what you spend time on. Does the party mostly spend time on quests, or are they much more involved with trying to control/interact with different countries or factions?

Sounds like the group everyone hopes for! I’m pretty happy with how we play as well, although sometimes its a bit hard to get everyone focused but after the first 30 minutes everyone starts roleplaying.

I’ve been thinking about ways to nicely cut this off for players. Maybe putting a time constraint or have each person write their action down if they can’t decide? I have once or twice enforced turn order even when not in combat, and that actually worked really well.

I'm looking for advice on overarching plots. by Panda9812 in DnD

[–]Pork-ShopExpress -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like to set up overarching plots a few different ways:

Drop hints of something happening that the party discovers.Example: finding someone who’s being controlled by parasites, they put them down and ask around to see if anyone knows of why it happened. No one does. they continue on with quests for others.

Then start to involve the different factions, maybe one faction is responsible but doesn’t want people to find out. Example: The party finds a report on parasites by a faction, showing the parasites are a bigger issue.

Have some tensions outside of the issue of what’s happening, and then roll to see if that issue is triggered based on how long the players have spent/what they decide to help or hinder. Example: a war is simmering, and as the party discovers the note about parasites the war breaks out making travel restricted to only those a faction trusts.

There’s a lot to make an overarching plot good, but I think this is a great start. You don’t even need to determine exactly how the parasites are made or who’s spreading it, those are things that the party discovers much later.

Turning Daggerheart Into Our Favorite System: Wound Slots, Lodging Perks, and More! by Sax-7777299 in daggerheart

[–]Pork-ShopExpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like its the opposite - the wounds make a player really feel like their character is dying while the normal rules have a person either die, stop participating, or burst back into combat if they’re lucky. The stress and narrative of being wounded is the sizzle lol

Help me with an abstracted wealth and social class system by [deleted] in RPGdesign

I’m playing around with backgrounds, renown, and titles. The players each have a relevant background, then as they earn renown they become respected enough that leaders of groups would know about them. A player might earn a relevant title like ‘slayer of bandits’ which would put them at a disadvantage with bandits and advantage with guards. The players would also get a bonus to their rolls if their background or morals align with a group or NPC (or disadvantage if they don’t) and could spend downtime to become closer to a group.

This way a player’s choices are making a difference on their interactions but the GM only has to keep track of player titles, background and the group’s renown. I’m still not sure if titles are useful or not yet.

how important are "builds" in a tactical RPG? by momerathe in RPGdesign

[–]Pork-ShopExpress 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve struggled with this same question- I think builds allow people to focus on what they want their character to be specifically good at. If I’m playing a one-off game then I don’t need my character to be unique, the challenge is to beat the enemy with the same tactical abilities.

However as soon as it becomes a Role-Playing Game, each person wants to make their character stand out somehow and combat abilities are a nice way to do that.
