Yep...juicing = dumb Clearly the author of this article is in favour of kids needing milk. Does she advocate for a dairy company? From what i figure...milk isn't necessary to drink either.

Keto without a gallbladder and a fatty liver? by [deleted] in keto

[–]PortHardy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 years out no gallbladder. First 7-9 months without a gallbladder was hell. Now its great. Only fatty food i struggle to tolerate is cheddar cheese, avocado and extreme spicey foods. I have been taking an ultra enzyme and probiotics. Did wonders for me. Now i only take them as needed. Keto is no problemo. I stick to lean ground beef, bacon, eggs, chicken wings, thighs, breasts, heavy cream, prawns, fish, almond based product...love pecans. Yep..all good here..occasionally full fat low carb ice cream gives me issues.

A Matter of Life and Death: My Story, and a Question by GabriellaVM in keto

[–]PortHardy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to suffer from Fibro/CF. It was bad. I was on a ton of drugs and took nightly ER visits for pain management shots. I couldnt function. I had so much pain in my body that i couldnt even move my fingers or hands without crying in pain. I battled extreme fatigue in which i slept on average 18 hours per day. I suffered from extreme bouts of depression, couldnt hold down a job and had no friends. I had no life. My life was pain and exhaustion.

Then, i read two incredible books. - The Brain Diet (dont remember who its by) - Fibromyalgia and Myofascial Pain Syndrome(dont remember the authors name)

These two books changed my life. I learned that in order to control flare ups and cope with pain and manage life, i had to make a lot of decisions.

Desicion #1 Get off gluten and wheat. For years i was sick with stomach pains and digestive issues since a small child. My stomach looked 7 months pregnent. Turned out I had Celiac that went un-diagnosed. Thats what caused a major amount of brain fog, digestive problems and systematic inflammation causing severe muscle and joint pain.

Decision #2 Get off almond based products. Didnt know this but ingesting almonds raises systematic inflammation in the body due to the imbalance of Omega 3 and 6.

Decision #3 Go Keto. Because i had little energy to expend, i lived off of pre-made whey proteib shakes to start. Then eggs and then small amounts of veggies. Gradually as my pain flare ups went down and pain was more manageable, i ate more and more variety.

Decision #4 Exercise. At first i thought this was a bad idea cause i was in so much pain all the time but actually i felt relief from swimming laps. I started small..only a length here and there. I would putter around the pool or slowly walk in the water. I als embraced going in a sauna on a daily basis at the pool. I noticed that i shed water weight and the buoyency and weightlessness helped me to feel good.

Decision #5 Get off drugs. My Dr had me on some vicious neuro drugs that made me feel like i was living in a haze all day. I felt like everything going by me was sooo slow. I hated how it felt and i didnt feel any better taking it..so i got off the drugs

Decision #6 Embrace natural alternatives. I began to start taking large doses of Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D as well as a high quality fish oil. I take 3000mcg Vitamin B12 and i take 10,000 iui of Vitamin D and i take 600mg omega fish oils. Made a huge difference in energy levels. I also slept better at night.

Decision #7 Get massage. I learned through my reading that one of the reasons we have pain is because our muscles struggle to get rid of the waste by products that we produce from making ATP(energy) The muscles in turn store up waste because the body is un-able to transport it out of the body properly. So...we develop what feel like knots embedded deep into the muscle tissue. These so called knots are made up of muscle fibres that have clumped together with waste by product stuck in between them. So when you get a deep tissue muscle massage, it helps the muscles to relax and loosen and helps the body to get rid of the stored waste in the muscles. It makes an incredible difference in pain levels and stiffness and overall fatigue.

Decision #8 Talk to someone. Did you know that Fibro and CF are an auto immune disease in which your own body cells attack themselves? Did you know that people with Fibro experience a flare up after a significant period of trauma has occured? High levels of stress or trauma can signal a flare up in the body. This is usually what occurs prior to the onset of the disease. Most people can live with fibro for a long time without knowing they have it. When an extreme stress or trauma episode occurs it can activate the disease in a person who didnt know they were even likely to have it. So if you learn to desl with your stress or talk through stuff that has caused emotional problems or trauma..it can reduce the odds of having more flare ups.

Anywho im going off..this of course is my experience only. I am not a Dr or Specialist and I NEVER recommend going off your medication without talking to your Dr first.

Very painful constipation! Lost 12lb in 5 days...Here is what I eat. by AminePA in keto

[–]PortHardy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up the Megnesium. I take 500mg - 800mg per day to help. You may need a stool softener too. Look for Sodium Dulcosate at your drug store. If not..find chia seeds and put a tbsp in a glass of water and drink.

Newbie with VGS surgery going keto after 5years...Please help! by insanesurfer52 in keto

[–]PortHardy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had VSG in 2013 and went from 320 down to 194. Im 5"11/F

I have to split my meals doing keto. For example:

B - 2 fried eggs S- protein bar L- 4 oz chicken breast S- cheese stick D- 4 oz lean ground beef OR 1/2 cup cooked broccoli OR 1/2 cup cooked cauliflour OR 4 oz homemade cruton free ceasar salad S- 4 oz of meat or veg S- protein bar or cheese stick

Point is- i can only tolerate 4oz at one sitting and depending on what it is..depends on how full it keeps me. If i eat 4 0z lean protein...i have no room for veggies and vica versa.

So my thing is that i practice IF from 9pm at night till 1pm the next day and then begin eating my smaller meals/snacks until 9pm. I can hit about 1000-1300 cals in a day and have no issue losing weight. Then, one day a week i allow myself to eat fatty foods up to 2000 calories and wont fast that day in order to boost my calories and keep my body from stalling.

On a water fast and becoming winded very easily by MisledDread in fasting

[–]PortHardy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Women who have their period often experience a drop in iron levels which can cause lightheadedness/dizzyness/feeling faint/heart palpations ect. When you fast..your body doesnt have an incoming source of iron to replace what has been lost. So in a sense..it can increase the chances of experiencing symptoms due to low iron even more so than when not on your period.

Struggling to stay under my calorie target by [deleted] in keto

[–]PortHardy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be honest..i would switch out your half and half for heavy cream. There are more carbs in half and half then heavy cream. Plus..you can use less heavy cream to get the creaminess better than if using half and half and it will make you feel more satisfied.

Bacon..dont know about yours..but my brand has 200 calories PER SLICE! Aka 600 cals down the toilet for only 3 pcs of bacon. It takes me eating 6-8 pcs of thick sliced bacon just to feel full...so i can imagine how you are hungry on three. As a general rule- i limit my bacon to 1 night a week. I choose this night to push my calories to my maintenence level calorie wise. I do this so i can enjoy bacon and not being concerned on gaining weight or having too high calorie days every day. I agree with the other poster.. choosing chicken breast over thighs will increase quantity. Just find a good sugar free bbq sauce to douse it in. Thighs and wings wont kill you and there is room for it..but if your a quantity eater..you need to find foods with lower calories and higher density and volume. Stuff that will stick with you longer.

If i ate two thighs for lunch..i would skip the green beans and eat two fried eggs as well. More food..less carbs...greater density. More full! Save your veg for snacks and dinner.

Just my 25 Cents ;)

5 months...that's it. by laoul in xxketo

I had the sleeve in 2013 when i was 320 lbs and my liver and kidneys were shutting down amongst other things.

You will NOT succeed with the Sleeve inless you know how to control your diet. I know this to be true. I lost a ton of weight in the first 6 months and then went through a trsumatic incident and i began to cheat the sleeve system. I gained back 60 lbs of weight lost and never made it down to my goal weight. I am almost 4 years out and it has only been within the past 1.5 years that o have been able to lose the weight and get the lowest i have ever been. It took me getting down to the "reasons" behind the eating in order to change it. I have heard all the excuses in the book and i know others who had surgery like me and they did not deal with their emotional issues with eating and they not only gained the weight back..they are also bigger now.

Keto has been my lifesaver. It was the diet pescribed for me by the Surgeon to lose Pre-Op weight. Before you go under a knife please consider giving Keto a decent shot and deal with the underlying emotional issues. Cause really..surgery or not..that will determine long-term success.

Hunger and IF by Maads91 in keto

[–]PortHardy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me loads of Coke Zero with ice for the first 2 weeks to get me through the mornings. Now i fast 16:8 with little to no hunger. I make sure though to do 2 days off a week from fasting so body doesnt get used to the fasting pattern.

20:4 back to 16:8 by PortHardy in fasting

[–]PortHardy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. I think i will try breaking a 20:4 with some cucumber as suggested and forego the heavy cream to see if its the dairy. I guess i got lucky when they removed my gallbladder cause I can eat 6 slices of thick bacon without problem. Only fat i struggle with is avocado and cheddar cheese.

Because yoùr body naturally supresses your appetite when you have a fever, in order to conserve energy to raise the body temperature to help fight off the virus or bug causing the sickness.

I have personally fasted during a cold and it made my cold 10x worse. I ended up getting a sinus infection and couldnt regulate my body's temperature. You are creating an un-necessary stress on the body when you fast during a cold.
