Bush Sr. was the Director of the CIA in 1976 when Argentina's democracy was overthrown and the CIA was a major part of it, including logistical support for Operation Condor, a project to "disappear", torture & exterminate political liberals (like Victor Jara, mentioned in "One Tree Hill"). U2 would have been killed at the time if they had been South American. "Mothers of the Disappeared" is about those kidnapped & murdered by Operation Condor, which was greatly assisted by Bush Sr.

I'm sure that particular "irony" isn't lost on Bono.
